Postpartum depression was thought to be an important component of maternity blues and was the factor explored in this study. Sleep was hypothesized as a factor affecting either the occurrence or severity of postpartum depression. Hence, the purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between sleep deprivation and postpartum depression.

Twenty patients were interviewed one to three weeks prior to their expected dates of delivery. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory Depression scale was administered during the interview and each patient kept a record of her hours of sleep during the following week. The purposes of this study were (1) to reduce the gap in nursing between theory and practice by applying to nursing practice selected nursing theory as identified in literature, and (2) to determine the quality of nursing care given when nurses carried out their unique functions in seven selected areas.

The study was conducted in a university hospital over a period of eight weeks on two, twenty-six-bed general surgical units, one experimental and one control. The purpose of this exploratory study was to investigate (1) what physical care critical incidents primiparae experience while providing mother-infant care during the first postpartum month and (2) what evaluations mothers give to nursing intervention applied to such critical incidents.

Six mothers who met the criteria of selection were visited four or five times. The first visit was made in the hospital to obtain background information of the mother's preparation for maternal and infant care. The effect of positive verbal reinforcement on the verbal self-references of hospitalized psychiatric patients was studied. Eighteen patients, characterized by a high production rate of negative, verbal self-references, were matched on the following variables: age, length of hospitalization, medication, psychotherapy participation, intelligence quotient, sex, and adjustment score discrepancy obtained on a Q-sort test. After the subjects were given the pre-experimental Q-sorts and matched on the other variables, nine were randomly assigned to the experimental group and nine to the control group. During the several years in which this therapy has been developed and evaluated, as standard dermatological preparation has not been available. The objective of the present work was to study the release of 5-FU from various ointment bases and to attempt to determine the type of base which would release the compound most satisfactorily.

Drying procedures, like other important unit operations in pharmacy, have received little attention in pharmaceutical literature. Within recent years, however, growing interest in these pharmaceutical engineering areas has become apparent.

Fluidization operations, although relatively unexplored in pharmacy, have been firmly established on a broad scale in other industries. Fluidization may be defined as the suspension and agitation of a bed of particulate solids by a vertically rising stream of gas. Each suspended particle is surrounded by the gas. The father of coordination chemistry was Alfred Werner (1866- 1919). Werner's theory was largely responsible for the renewed interest in, and rapid growth of, inorganic chemistry around the turn of the century. He postulated that there were two types of valence, primary and secondary, which correspond, in modern terminology, to oxidation state and coordination number. The primary valences must be either negative ions, neutral molecules or, occasionally even, positive ions (11). He also postulated that the secondary valences are directed in space about the central ion, not only in the solid state, but also when the complex is in solution. …
