The study of conformation in drug action can be approached from two directions, (i) that of the drug, and (ii) that of the receptor. Since the problem of elucidating the biologically active conformation of drug molecules has been extensively studied and is very well reviewed^1,2, it should be equally productive to explore the conformational aspects of receptors.

An original study was undertaken to examine the relationship of clients of Project Jump Street, Inc., a methadone maintenance program, to changes in personality factors as measured by R.B. Cattell's Sixteen Personality Factor Inventory, to compare the national norms of drug addicts/methadone users to the result of the 16 PF of clients of Project Jump Street, Inc., and to determine if significant differences appear among treatment phase I, phase II, and phase III.

Atherosclerotic disease is an almost universal phenomenon and increases in severity and frequency with increasing age. Atherosclerosis may contribute to several disorders including bursting of an artery, blockage of an artery, or induction of arterial clotting. The culmination of these diseases is usually premature since at the time of death the unaffected organs are in reasonably satisfactory condition and could have operated for several more years. Among the many factors which act in concert to produce the disease, serum cholesterol levels play a central role. โครงการศึกษาการใช้มันสำปะหลัง (มันเส้นบด) และใบมันสำปะหลัง สำหรับไก่กระทง และไก่รุ่นแบ่งออกเป็น 3 การทดลอง การทดลองที่ 1 และ 2 วางแผนการทดลองใช้มันสำปะหลัง เป็นแหล่งพลังงานแทนปลายข้าว และเสริมด้วย Na2SO4 โดยมีระดับมันสําปะหลังและ Na2SO4 เป็น % ในอาหารผสม 0, 15, 30, 45, 15 + 0.3, 30 + 0.3 และ 45 + 0.3 สําหรับไก่กระทง (1 วัน-8 สัปดาห์) และไก่รุ่น (10-16 สัปดาห์) โดยใช้ไก่พันธุ์ คอปยักษ์ เพศคละและพันธุ์ไฮไลน์ เพศคละตามลำดับ ส่วนโครงการทดลองที่ 3 ใช้ใบมันสําปะหลังแห้งบด 5 ระดับ คือ 0, 5, 10, 15 และ 20% ในอาหารไก่กระทงโดยใช้ไก่พันธุ์ คอปยักษ์ เพศคละทั้ง 3 โครงการ วางแผนการทดลองแบบ Randomized Complete Block มี 3 ซ้ำ ผลการทดลองแสดงให้เห็นว่าสามารถใช้มันสำปะหลังระดับ 15% สำหรับไก่รุ่นและไก่ กระทง โดยไม่ทำให้การเจริญเติบโต ประสิทธิภาพการใช้อาหาร อัตราการตายด้อยกว่าพวกเปรียบ เทียบ แต่ถ้าระดับสูง 30% และ 45% ทําให้อัตราการเจริญเติบโตและประสิทธิภาพการใช้ต่ำ และ อัตราการตายสูงกว่าพวกเปรียบเทียบ นอกจากนี้ไก่ทดลองซึ่งใช้มันสำปะหลังเลี้ยงระดับสูง แสดง อาการเป็นพิษหลังจากกินอาหารผสม 4 สัปดาห์ การเสริม Na2SO4 ระดับ 3% ไม่ให้ผลดีในการ ปรับปรุงการใช้มันสำปะหลัง การใช้ใบมันสำปะหลังเพื่อเป็นแหล่งโปรตีนแทนถั่วลิสงบางส่วนจนถึง 20% ในอาหาร ผสมสำหรับไก่กระทง ปรากฏว่าการเจริญเติบโตวัดในรูปของน้ำหนักเพิ่ม …

การศึกษาอาการ (clinical signs) วิการที่ดูด้วยตาเปล่า (gross lesions) และวิการ ทางกล้องจุลทัศน์ (Microscopic lesions) และเปอร์เซ็นต์การตาย (mortality) ของโรคมาเซ็กส์ (Marek s' disease) ในลูกไก่ไข่ตัวเมีย 2,000 ตัว ซึ่งเลี้ยงที่หมวดสัตว์ปีก คณะเกษตรศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ตั้งแต่อายุ 1 วัน ถึง 130 วัน ปรากฏผลดังนี้ ลูกไก่ที่เป็นโรคมาเร็กส์ ทั้งหมด 53 ตัว หรือประมาณ 2.65% แบ่งออกเป็น 2 ชนิด คือ classical หรือ chronic form และ acute form ชนิด classical form พบในลูกไก่ 37 ตัว อายุ ตั้งแต่ 45 วัน ถึง 114 วัน ลูกไก่แสดงอาการซึม เดินขากะเผลก ชักเป็นครั้งคราว คอบิด ขาหรือปีก เป็นอัมพาต ผอมแห้ง ในที่สุดตาย การผ่าตรวจซากส่วนมากพบการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่เส้นประสาท sciatic nerves ที่ขา โดยเส้นประสาทนี้จะขยายใหญ่ สีเข้มขึ้น และลายขวางหายไป ในบางตัวจะ พบเนื้องอกเกิดขึ้นในอวัยวะภายใน เช่น ม้าม ตับ และรังไข่ วิการทางกล้องจุลทัศน์ พบ lymphoid infiltration ใน sciatic nerve และอวัยวะภายในที่พบเนื้องอก และพบ lymphocytic per- ivascular cuffing ในสมอง โรคมาเซ็กส์อีกชนิดหนึ่ง คือ acute form พบในลูกไก่ 16 …

[From the Discussion] In summary, we have shown that prostaglandin E1, when injected in the rabbit knee produces synovitis and cartilage matrix degradation. The finding that salicylate cannot prevent this degeneration whereas chloroquine can, is most likely due to their different mechanisms of action in this system. Whereas chloroquine's ability to stabilize membranes is protective int his experiment, salicylate's ability to prevent the biosynthesis of prostaglandins is by passed and therefore is not.
