Estimation Of Growth Curves By Least Square Splines, Dorothy Rybaczyk Pathak May 1975

Estimation Of Growth Curves By Least Square Splines, Dorothy Rybaczyk Pathak

Mathematics & Statistics ETDs

The primary object of this dissertation is to present some contributions to the theory of estimation of growth curves by least square splines in the presence of unknown unequal variances. The theoretical developments rest heavily on the standard least square theory and the theory of polynomial spline functions. A modification of the Aitken procedure of weighted least squares is used to estimate regression parameters. It is shown that this modification of the Aitken procedure does not unduly influence the nice least square properties of estimators so obtained; the estimators re main unbiased, consistent and asymptotically efficient.

The techniques developed in …

The Client-Centered Counselor In The Pastoral Setting, Joseph Roland Armshaw May 1975

The Client-Centered Counselor In The Pastoral Setting, Joseph Roland Armshaw

Graduate Theses

A role conflict exists for the priest in the contemporary Catholic church. He must act as an official minister of an authoritarian church in his spiritual role and at the same time as a counselor that meets the needs of his parishioners in his secular role. Therefore, "How authoritarian must he be?" and "How per missive can he be?" It is proposed in this study that the modern Catholic priest can find an answer to this dilemma when he applies Rogers' client-centered counseling theory to his pastoral role. Rogers' theory is based on the dignity, worth, and trustworthiness of the …

The LD50 of Vibrio parahaemolyticus ATCC 17803 for 13- to 18-g male mice, strain ICR, as determined by the 50% endpoint method, was found to be an estimated 7 x 107 CFU, when administered intraperitoneally in 0.5 ml of 24-h broth culture, O. D. 0.5 at 650 nm, diluted to 10-0.72.

The elicitation of protective antibody by this bacterium in male New Zealand White rabbits was demonstrated by testing control, baseline, and hyperimmune rabbit sera for their protective effect against 2 LD50 of the bacterium administered intraperitoneally in 13- to 18-g male mice, strain ICR. …

Anatomical And Phenological Variation Of Liquidambar Styraciflua L. Under Controlled Environmental Conditions, William Randel May 1975

Anatomical And Phenological Variation Of Liquidambar Styraciflua L. Under Controlled Environmental Conditions, William Randel

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

A large degree of variation in fiber tracheid length, vood specific gravity, and time of apical bud formation existed vithin two populations of Liquidambar styraciflua L. from south central Kentucky. The variation exhibited by these populations may be attributed to the self-sterility of Liquidaribar and the variable environment of south central Kentucky. Variation of fiber tracheid length and wood specific gravity within the two populations was significant. Fiber tracheid length was dependent on temperature and photoperiod while wood specific gravity was primarily dependent on temperature. A significant level of variation was also evident between the two populations regarding tracheid length. …

Bench and Ricketts and were selected on the basis that each case must include three complete sets of frontal and lateral headplates, before and after treatment, and a minimum of two years out of …

Subvocalization And Stuttering, Laverne Brent Gohl May 1975

Subvocalization And Stuttering, Laverne Brent Gohl

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Twenty-six subjects, thirteen stutterers and thirteen fluent speakers, were matched by age, sex and educational background. None had any history of neurosurgery, neuropathology or debilitating injury to the head or neck.

Two GRASS silver chloride electrodes were attached to the chin and inferior surface of the lower lip of each subject. This recording site was chosen because, presumably, it would detect activity of the quadratus labii inferioris, a muscle involved in the articulation of labial phonemes, permitting a distinction between the labial and nonlabial ensembles and, therefore, speech and nonspeech oral activity. EMG recordings, measuring covert phonetic activity, were obtained …

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

An in vitro study using radioactively-labeled tissue culture cells was conducted over a seven-month period on Grossman's sealer, Rickert's sealer, N2 Permanent, and Cavit to determine the lasting and relative tissue toxicity of these materials.

From this study it was observed that all materials possess lasting tissue toxicity. When relative toxicity is considered, Grossman's is the most toxic, followed by N2, Rickert's and Cavit in descending order of toxicity. Both Grossman's and N2 would be considered highly toxic, with Rickert's displaying moderate toxicity. Cavit would be considered mild to moderate in toxicity.

The use of radioactively-labeled …
