Purpose:  An extensive literature review indicates a gap in understanding how prior direct patient care experience affects undergraduate nursing students’ anxiety and self-confidence during their program. The purpose of this project was to examine the impact of prior direct patient care experience on undergraduate nursing students’ anxiety and self-confidence while in an undergraduate nursing program.  

Participants: A total of 294 undergraduate nursing students were surveyed using Qualtrics. Students were from terms one, two, three, and four in the Winona and Rochester nursing program allowing for a population of diverse backgrounds.

Crystal cells, a subset of Drosophila melanogaster hemocytes, are important for melanization, a crucial immune response. While the genetic regulation of crystal cell develop remains incompletely understood, this study investigates the functions of five candidate genes: ACXB, ACXA, Gp210, CG4390, and Cyp4s3; identidied through previous genome-wide association studies. Using the Gal4/UAS system along with RNA interference (RNAi), we exclusively knocked down each gene in third instar larvae and quantified crystal cell populations following heat shock-induced melanization. Our results imply that the knockdown of ACXB and ACXA significantly increased crystal cell counts in both sexes, suggesting these genes either act as …

Background: This study evaluated the relationship between grip strength and forearm skeletal muscle architecture during maximal grip contractions. Grip strength is a gauge for many different health related attributes, yet research on muscle architecture has been primarily completed in lower limb studies. This study aims to develop a better understanding of how biomechanical architecture of muscle operates to produce force during maximal isometric contractions of the forearms.

The QI project was implemented within a level two trauma center with a 24-suite operating room (OR) in The Woodlands, Texas, which provides care across all surgical specialties except ophthalmology.

Background: Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a chronic condition associated with a high symptom burden and decreased quality of life (QOL). Exercise is currently considered to be a first line non-pharmacological treatment for POTS. The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the impact of exercise on cardiovascular and patient-centered outcomes in patients with POTS. Managing Type 2 diabetes (T2D) in underserved rural areas presents ongoing challenges due to limited healthcare access and provider shortages. Telehealth interventions, such as remote monitoring, mobile health applications, and virtual consultations, have emerged as promising strategies to enhance care delivery. This systematic review evaluated the effectiveness of telehealth in improving glycemic control and patient satisfaction among adults with T2D in rural settings. Recent studies, including randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, and systematic reviews published between 2019 and 2025, were analyzed. Exposure to microgravity causes rapid bone loss and muscle atrophy, posing serious challenges for long-duration spaceflight. In response, NASA developed countermeasures such as Lower Body Negative Pressure (LBNP) to simulate gravitational loading on astronauts’ lower extremities. LBNP, often combined with exercise, has proven effective in mitigating musculoskeletal degradation during bed rest analogs. This opinion paper argues that LBNP’s success in preserving bone mass and muscle function in microgravity can be translated to improve re- covery after orthopedic arthroplasty on Earth. Gene therapy involves the introduction of genetic materials, most commonly using viral vectors, to alter gene expression to ameliorate or cure disease symptoms with minimal adverse events. While interest in gene therapy has been on the increase, concerns have arisen about the potential for hepatotoxicity, which arises from diverse mechanisms. While viral vectors can produce dose-dependent hepatotoxicity secondary to integration, immune responses appear to be the primary driving mechanism. A mild increase in aminotransferases is the most common hepatic manifestation, occurring variably in 20%-80%, while there has been rare progress to acute liver failure. Adults with intellectual disabilities face many challenges throughout life. Employment is one of those challenges for a multitude of reasons including communication skills, discrimination, feelings of underappreciation, etc (Special Olympics). Only 21-44% of adults with intellectual disabilities are employed. There are services to help these individuals including occupational therapy, transition service counselors, and vocational rehab. BACKGROUND: Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare and aggressive variant of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. While PCNSL is often sensitive to induction high-dose methotrexate (HDMTX) based chemotherapy, recurrence rates remain high, approaching 50% within 5 years. The most common molecular alterations in PCNSL include mutations in MYD88 and CD79 and CDKN2A homozygous deletion. There are no predictive or prognostic molecular markers in PCNSL.

Background: Tibial osteotomy is a surgical procedure commonly performed to correct lower limb malalignment in athletes. Full recovery typically takes 6-12 months, with athletes generally resuming sport-specific activities at 4-6 months. Delays in rehabilitation can result in prolonged deficits in strength, range of motion (ROM), and neuromuscular control. Case Presentation: This case study follows a 20-year-old collegiate rugby player who underwent tibial osteotomy, with rehabilitation delayed by one month. This case report evaluates a 15-year-old male diagnosed with Anomalous Left Coronary Artery from Right Cusp. This rare condition often goes unnoticed until a tragic event occurs. In March 2022, a teenage athlete was completing practice when he suddenly collapsed. Fortunately, a police officer was already in the parking lot when teammates and coaches flagged them down. Emergency medical services arrived, and the athlete was transported to a nearby hospital. Cultural beliefs, historical trauma, and societal pressures shape the stigma surrounding mental health in African American communities. Mental health struggles are often seen as a sign of weakness, deepened by mistrust of medical professionals due to past abuses, such as the Tuskegee Syphilis Study and the exploitation of Henrietta Lacks. This mistrust, combined with societal expectations and stereotypes, discourages open conversations about mental health. Though only a low number of cases have been described in dogs, there is evidence to indicate that primary gallbladder NENs may carry a more favorable prognosis compared to primary hepatic NENs.
