These cattle are labeled “high-risk” due to their compromised immune system during transportation, handling, and vaccination processes. The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of a maternal bovine appeasing substance, FerAppease, on growth performance and behavior of stocker cattle. The presented work is a collection of studies performed to examine small molecule recognition of nucleic acids. Recognition of nucleic acids was examined using two types of small molecules: aminoglycosides and Hoechst dyes. Chapter One focuses on established experimental techniques (i.e. absorbance, isothermal titration calorimetry, flow cytometry, cell microscopy, etc.) in small molecule recognition of nucleic acids. The emphasis of studies in the group has been on two focus areas. This study explored how embedded cultural competency training influences undergraduate pre-health students’ perceptions of personal and professional growth. Using a qualitative descriptive design, the research incorporated intercultural assessments, the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), and the Global Competence Certificate (GCC), along with qualitative reflections from students enrolled in three versions of a cultural competence course: a year-long course, a semester-long course, and a short-term study abroad immersion six-week course. Few studies have investigated change over time in attention problems prior to school entry. BACKGROUND: Many vascular anomalies harbor postzygotic somatic variants in GNAQ and GNA11; however, the phenotype of specific G-protein variants has not been well described. We report the clinical characteristics of 17 patients with a GNA11 R183C variant.

METHODS: This case series is derived from a multinational cohort of vascular anomaly patients whose pathogenic mutations were identified using high-depth next generation sequencing. Data include vascular anomaly features, imaging reports, and extracutaneous manifestations of the GNA11 R183C variant.

In chocolate-coated products, oil migration in fats can lead to chocolate softening, filling hardening, discoloration, and lower consumer acceptance. This study examined three different fats (soy- palm-, and palm-kernel (PK) based), crystallized under different conditions (cooling rate and use of high intensity ultrasound (HIU)) to examine how the crystallization conditions impact the physical properties of confectionery products. The Cheddar cheese industry has recently observed variation in the pH of their cheese during the early stage of storage. This variation may be due to the addition of the faster acid producing thermophilic starter culture Streptococcus thermophilus which was recently introduced into the Cheddar cheese making process. This starter culture may impact the calcium buffering properties of the cheese due to more retention of the insoluble calcium (INSOL Ca) within the cheese. To investigate this problem, we studied how insoluble calcium affects cheeses with pH ranging from 4.8 to 6.6 and found that INSOL Ca was positively correlated with …

We describe a patient who underwent AV node modification to create complete heart block in the setting of incessant, ablation-and-drug-refractory, symptomatic atypical atrial flutter. His dual chamber defibrillator (previously implanted for resuscitated cardiac arrest) was programmed to the VVIR mode at a faster pacing rate of 85 bpm. Serendipitously, this rate was an almost exact factorial of his flutter rate of 250-260 bpm. This resulted in every 6th flutter wave falling in the supernormal period, resulting in fixed-coupled supraventricular bigeminy and trigeminy in the setting of complete heart block. Reprogramming the pacing rate to 75 bpm abolished bigeminy and trigeminy.

This quality improvement project intended to identify populations of adult intimate partner violence (IPV) survivors in Spokane County, Washington, by race/ethnicity and sex who are underserved by a local victim service agency and provide action-oriented, evidence-informed recommendations that the agency may utilize to increase engagement with these local underserved populations. Methods used include secondary data analysis, timeline creation, literature review, and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data analysis. This was a capstone project designed to demonstrate multiple public health competencies.

Methods: A subset of data from the Framingham Cohort study, with 5,209 participants and collected across three periods from 1956 to 1968, was analyzed. The dataset includes laboratory, clinic, questionnaire, and event data from 4,434 individuals and was analyzed using SAS software for logistic regression.
