During acute myocardial infarction (MI), the composition of the extracellular matrix (ECM) undergoes significant changes. While collagen accumulation is one of the most well-documented ECM alterations, hyaluronan (HA) is equally abundant. However, the cellular sources, enzymatic regulation, and functional significance of HA accumulation remain largely unexplored. Here, we hypothesized that activated cardiac fibroblasts produce HA via hyaluronan synthase 2 (HAS2), facilitating scar formation and stability. Our findings demonstrate that HA accumulates post-MI and persists for at least four weeks. Through HA sizing techniques, we determined the molecular weight of this persistent HA. Longitudinal data in real-world settings are frequently found to be heterogeneous and exhibit intricate spatio-temporal dependence structures. Analyzing such complex data to obtain reliable estimation while quantifying uncertainty necessitates using sophisticated Bayesian methodology. In this work, we present novel Bayesian methods developed to address these challenges. We often observe heterogeneity in longitudinal data, where the mean and variance for certain profiles meaningfully differs from the rest. Some profiles may also exhibit outliers at a limited number of measurements. This non-experimental study utilized a convenience sample (N = 86) to investigate the comparability of school-based speech-language pathologists (SLPs), laypersons, and speech recognition software in the assessment of speech intelligibility for children with phonological disorders. Eighty-nine percent of participants were female, and 92% were white. All participants completed a survey comprised of 25 audio recordings of single-word utterances from an AI-generated voice of a four-year-old male with a phonological disorder and were asked to select what word they believed was heard from a pool of 12 options. Current treatment for oropharyngeal cancer involves chemoradiation, which can have profound effects on swallowing function. Submental muscle activity is critical for airway protection and bolus transit but is highly susceptible to radiation-related swallowing impairments. This study examined whether chemoradiation targeting the submental muscles leads to measurable changes in esophageal distension during swallowing in a rodent model. We hypothesized that rats receiving chemoradiation would exhibit aberrant esophageal distension compared to chemotherapy-only controls. Twenty male rats underwent four cycles of cisplatin concurrently with either radiation or sham radiation. Competitive foods are foods sold outside of school breakfast and lunch, such as those sold in vending machines. A new ruling for Smart Snacks Standards, a set of competitive food guidelines, started in the school year 2014-2015. It is known that competitive foods undermine school lunch participation, and a decrease in school lunch consumption is associated with poorer student health. Mental health outcomes among collegiate student-athletes, has become a broader concern in the 21^st century. This study examines prevalence and incidence of anxiety and depression amongst student-athletes at the University of Louisville from 2019-2023 across different Sports Groups. The prevalence of anxiety was found to be 20.22% and risk of anxiety was 15.65%. The prevalence of depression was found to be 13.11% and risk of depression was 18.75%. Logistic regression was used to estimate the association between sports groups and anxiety/depression. The persistence of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) reservoir despite years of suppressive antiretroviral therapy (ART) represents the principal obstacle to achieving a functional cure. Because the intact, replication-competent portion of the reservoir drives viral rebound after treatment interruption, HIV cure strategies must specifically identify and target cells harboring these proviruses. Kentucky Cancer Registry (KCR) prostate cancer (PCa) cases between the years of 1994 and 2021 were analyzed to examine differences between rural and urban populations’ primary stage at diagnosis and PCa-specific mortality. After adjusting for covariates, rural populations did not experience significantly higher odds of stage 3 diagnosis when compared to urban populations (OR = 1.02, 95% CI = 0.95 – 1.06). Rural populations had 16% increased odds of stage 4 diagnosis when compared to urban populations (OR = 1.16, 95% CI = 1.10 – 1.23). Objectives: South Asian individuals (SAs) may have heightened levels of inflammatory markers, such as C reactive protein (CRP), Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α), leptin, and resistin, and decreased levels of anti-inflammatory adiponectin, contributing to higher cardiovascular disease (CVD) incidence. Social determinants of health, like discrimination, are also associated with risks for CVD in SAs. Precocious puberty (PP) is an established breast cancer risk factor. In the normal mammary gland, hormone receptor-positive (HR+) cells rarely proliferate. In breast cancer, proliferating epithelial cells are often HR+. It is not known if PP can modify this population of proliferating HR+ cells. Previously, we established a manganese-induced precocious puberty (MnPP) model to study the effects of PP on mammary gland development in female rats. One specific hospital facing such an impact is Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Prediabetes affects one in three US adults. Over 80% of individuals with prediabetes are unaware of having the condition. Evidence-based clinical practice guidelines (CPG) recommend screening adults 35 to 70 years old with a BMI of 25 or higher. Prediabetes treatment consists of lifestyle modification, referrals to nutrition counseling, and metformin for individuals who cannot make lifestyle changes. This study aimed to address the difference in adherence to the Mediterranean and Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) in lowering hypertension among women with GDM. This study is a quantitative, secondary analysis study using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2007-2016, targeting pregnant women with GDM (n =240). The demographics, dietary, questionnaire, and examination files in NHANES captured the dependent variable, hypertension, and the independent variables, Mediterranean and DASH diets.
