Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a rare cause of acute coronary syndrome (ACS), which predominantly affects women. This case report describes a 55-year-old female with SCAD potentially linked to a progestin-releasing intrauterine device (IUD) placed 1.5 years ago. The patient presented with acute chest pain and diaphoresis, and was eventually found to have ST-elevation myocardial infarction that led to coronary angiography, revealing type 1 SCAD from the proximal right coronary artery (RCA) to the mid-RCA with grade 3 thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) flow distally. She was managed conservatively with antithrombotics, statins, and blood pressure control, achieving favorable outcomes …

Ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (oVEMPs) are produced by highly synchronous bursts of extraocular muscle activity in response to bone or air-conducted stimuli. Surface electromyography (EMG) electrodes can be used to record these responses which reflect utricular function. The traditional analysis of oVEMPs has been limited to time-domain waveform measurements, such as amplitude and latency of response peaks.

Early studies have found that engaging in vestibular training, such as dance, may result in enhanced VOR suppression and changes in vestibular perception (e.g., lower sensations of vertigo) attributed to top-down modulation of subcortical neuronal networks and changes in the cerebellum. Dancers use spotting techniques to help control dizziness which involve holding their gaze on a visual object at eye level as they turn. As a result of this training, dancers become habituated to vestibular stimuli leading to lower VOR responses and decreased sensations of vertigo. This dissertation explored the entanglements of professional counseling and masculinities across three manuscripts, to contribute to (1) healthier forms of gender expression within and beyond the spectrum of masculinities for individuals, (2) the counseling profession’s role in transforming hegemonic masculinity within communities, and (3) larger movements to subvert the patriarchy throughout society. The first manuscript is a conceptual article that presented the Relational Cultural Privileged Identity Counseling (RCPIC) model, an integrative framework designed to help counselors address hegemonic masculinity within the therapeutic relationship. This dissertation explores burnout and self-efficacy in counselors who work with clients in crisis in emergency department settings. Mental health and emergency departments are two areas that tend to report higher levels of burnout than are reported in other occupational fields. While much research has been done on the topics of burnout and self-efficacy, limited information is available about counselors who work in these crisis roles. Cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (cVEMPs) are used in clinics and research to assess the function of primarily the saccule. cVEMPs are typically stimulated with transient clicks or tone bursts through air conduction and are recorded from the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle. The SCM is contracted by turning the head either left or right. In this study, we used sustained sinusoidal bone conducted stimuli. Using this new stimulus method allowed us to look at the possibility of a sustained cVEMP response, compared to the typically recorded transient response, as well as analyze the amplitude and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the responses. …

Cross-sloped surfaces create an asymmetrical substrate for foot contact, introducing a slip force within the transverse plane and a gravitational pull within the coronal plane that increases the tendency to topple downslope. To maintain stability, the foot must make structural adjustments across the hindfoot, midfoot, forefoot, and hallux. In chapter 1, I investigated how IFMs respond to varying substrate conditions and balance demands, providing insight into their functional role in maintaining stability and adapting foot structure in static and dynamic locomotor tasks. INTRODUCTION: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a disease of the elderly with a median age at diagnosis of 68 and with a very poor prognosis outside of those patients who have cytogenetic and/or molecular findings which confer a better prognosis. Most fit patients are treated with chemotherapy and then allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant if they are intermediate or poor risk by ELN 2022 criteria (aSCT). aSCT is the mainstay of curative treatment although many patients are not candidates due to age, performance status, and comorbidities. Patient-facing technologies (PFTs) are essential tools for patient-centered outcome research. The current designs of PFTs need solid theoretical support and face challenges with maintenance and sustainability. This paper identifies PFT features and theoretical frameworks that support patient engagement in cancer care. Six prevailing PFT features - feedback & alert, a summary of entries, education materials, aggregated review, dedicated staff, and reminders - were identified in the primary literature, and five theoretical frameworks were adopted to guide the design and evaluation of 20 PFTs. Further research into user-centered design, personalization, and social context in PFT development is recommended to connect system …

The MAUDE database is increasingly used for research. However, the MAUDE publications are scattered in literature databases with fragmented topics, hindering researchers' exploration and identification. To address this issue and enhance the visibility of MAUDE topics in literature, we followed the Gestalt data visualization principles, utilizing the PubMed API and Google Looker Studio to extract, organize, and visualize literature pertinent to MAUDE. The 5-section dashboard exhibits publication trends, cross-filtered publications and authors, geographical distribution of authors and publishers, article scorecards, and donut graphs representing percentages concerning affiliations, journals, publication types, and MeSH terms. BACKGROUND: Risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease begin in youth. Knowledge of the prevalence of cardio-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome in adolescents and its risk factors is critical to understanding the cause of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk burden.

METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of the 2017 to 2020 US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data and determined the prevalence of each CKM stage in adolescents aged 12 to 18 years. We then assessed the relationship between the family income-to-poverty ratio, health insurance, routine health care access, food security, health behaviors, and CKM stage.
