This study explores the interdisciplinary field of literature and medicine through a feminist psychoanalytic lens, focusing on how Nigerian female writers represent illness, healthcare, and medical ethics in post-independence gyno-texts. Traditionally, scholarship in this field has centered on andro-texts (literary works authored by men), leaving a critical gap in the exploration of women’s perspectives. This research addresses that gap by analyzing nine prose works authored by Nigerian women, including texts by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Ayobami Adebayo, Lola Shoneyin, and Samira Haruna Sanusi. Protein Arginine Methyltransferase 7 (PRMT7) is the only member of the protein arginine methyltransferase protein family that monomethylates its protein substrates. PRMT7 is found in both the nucleus and cytoplasm of breast cells and is believed to play a robust role in the tumorigenesis and metastasis of breast cancer. The goal of this project is to uncover possible pathways for PRMT7 to promote cancer progression. A preliminary antibody array was performed to determine the regulation of known cancer-related proteins by PRMT7. Human cerebrospinal fluid (hCSF) is a physiologically rich medium containing neurotrophic factors, signaling molecules, and essential metabolites that support neuronal development, survival, and function. While its neuroprotective properties have been demonstrated in organotypic brain slices and human iPSC-derived models, its application in primary rodent cortical neuron cultures-a foundational system for studying synaptic development and neurodegeneration-remains underexplored. Outpatient clinics often struggle with patients not showing up for appointments. Addressing this gap was critical for improving patient outcomes and resource efficiency. BACKGROUND: Mental rehearsal (MR), the deliberate practice of skills specific to a procedure, has been successfully used in sports and music training for decades, but has not been adopted in surgery. This narrative review explores MR's role in surgical training and clinical practice, evaluating its effectiveness in motor skill acquisition, technical and non-technical skill development, and real world clinical implementation. Chondromyxoid fibromas (CMFs) are rare tumours that comprise less than 2% of benign bone tumours; approximately 5-7.9% occur in the ribs. We report a 28-year-old female patient with CMF in the 4th rib that presented to a tertiary care hospital in Muscat, Oman, in 2023. She complained of pain in the right posterior chest wall for 6 months. A chest computed tomography showed posterior 4th rib expansile lesion measuring 3×2 cm without soft tissue involvement. PURPOSE: To provide a comprehensive evaluation of the visual, refractive, and strabismic characteristics of patients with monocular elevation deficiency (MED) undergoing strabismus surgery.

METHODS: The medical records of patients at a single institution who were diagnosed with and underwent surgery for MED were reviewed retrospectively. Visual acuity, refractive error, angle of deviation, abnormal head posture (AHP), presence of ptosis, prevalence of amblyopia and strabismic patterns were analyzed, with MED eyes compared with fellow eyes.

Microfluidic modulation spectroscopy-infrared (MMS) offers a label-free, high-sensitivity approach for quantifying changes in protein secondary structures under native solution conditions. MMS subtracts the solvent backgrounds from sample signals by alternately flowing proteins and matched buffers through a microfluidic chamber, yielding clear amide I spectra from microliter volumes. In this study, we validated MMS on canonical globular proteins, bovine serum albumin, mCherry, and lysozyme, demonstrating accurate detection and resolution of α-helix, β-sheet, and mixed-fold structures. Carbon monoxide (CO), traditionally known as a toxic gas, has emerged as a potential therapeutic agent due to its cytoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and vasodilatory properties. This study explores the development of CO-releasing polymeric micelles as a controlled delivery system for biomedical applications. Using ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP), we synthesized diblock copolymers incorporating CO-releasing moiety diphenylcyclopropenone (DPCP) with hydrophilic polyethylene glycol (PEG) to enhance solubility and stability of the overall CO releasing system. In this study I explored and analyzed how the queer experiences of an anonymous higher education institution in the western United States’ self-identified queer faculty and staff intersected with the discursive framing of the college’s dependent healthcare structure and documents. Despite the emerging public health concern related to the use of electronic cigarette vapors (ECV), its impact on lung cancer is poorly understood. We assessed the effect of ECV on lung tumorigenesis in a mouse model of lung adenocarcinoma. Mice were exposed to either room air, combustible cigarette smoke (CCS), or ECV 2 hours daily for 8 weeks at which lung samples were harvested and studied for different outcomes. We found that CCS, but not ECV, led to a significant increase in tumor burden. Purpose: We conducted metabolomics and spatial cell transcriptomics of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN), recognized pancreatic cancer precursors, to identify oncometabolites that inform upon risk of malignancy of IPMNs.

Experimental design: Untargeted metabolomic analyses were performed on cystic fluid from 125 patients with low-grade (LG) dysplasia or high-grade (HG) dysplasia with/without concurrent pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC; IPMN/PDAC). Predictive performance of individual metabolites for identifying HG or PDAC/IPMN was determined and compared with CA19-9 performance. Purpose: Magrolimab is a monoclonal antibody directed against the macrophage checkpoint CD47 on myeloid leukemia cells that was preclinically synergistic with azacitidine-venetoclax, warranting further clinical evaluation.

Patients and methods: In this phase Ib/II study, the triplet combination of azacitidine, venetoclax, and magrolimab was evaluated in adult patients with first-line (ineligible for intensive chemotherapy) and relapsed/refractory acute myeloid leukemia. Deciduosis is a benign condition characterised by the transformation of subepithelial connective tissue into decidual-like cells, typically occurring in response to hormonal changes during pregnancy. Although benign, cervical deciduosis may macroscopically resemble malignant lesions, leading to diagnostic uncertainty. This report presents two cases of cervical deciduosis diagnosed in early pregnancy. Both patients presented with first-trimester vaginal bleeding, and speculum examination revealed extensive wart-like lesions covering the cervix. Histopathological examination of cervical biopsies confirmed decidual changes. Our study evaluates 24-month postoperative patient-reported outcomes from an OUS pilot clinical study on a novel lumbar total joint replacement (TJR) for degenerative conditions.

BACKGROUND: Trofinetide is the first available treatment for Rett syndrome (RTT) and is approved in the United States in adults and pediatric patients aged ≥2 years. The DAFFODIL study was conducted in girls aged 2-4 years with RTT to examine the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of trofinetide and to validate that the recommended dosage, according to body weight, achieved target exposure.

BACKGROUND: Although studies have evaluated the presence of cell-free DNA and neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), the kinetics of NET formation during the early ICU admission and whether plasma NET markers correlate with clinical outcomes in patients with moderate-to-severe hypoxemia remain unknown.
