Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of the healthcare facilities in the Oman to guide the decision-making process and benchmarking. Methods: Input-oriented data envelopment analysis (DEA) was used to assess the relative efficiency of governorate hospitals in Oman using 2022 data extracted in December 2023. In the second stage of data analysis, the Tobit model was applied to assess determinants of governorate hospital inefficiency; 3 DEA models were created (staffing, structure and budget). Chondromyxoid fibromas (CMFs) are rare tumours that comprise less than 2% of benign bone tumours; approximately 5-7.9% occur in the ribs. We report a 28-year-old female patient with CMF in the 4th rib that presented to a tertiary care hospital in Muscat, Oman, in 2023. She complained of pain in the right posterior chest wall for 6 months. A chest computed tomography showed posterior 4th rib expansile lesion measuring 3×2 cm without soft tissue involvement. PURPOSE: To provide a comprehensive evaluation of the visual, refractive, and strabismic characteristics of patients with monocular elevation deficiency (MED) undergoing strabismus surgery.

METHODS: The medical records of patients at a single institution who were diagnosed with and underwent surgery for MED were reviewed retrospectively. Microfluidic modulation spectroscopy-infrared (MMS) offers a label-free, high-sensitivity approach for quantifying changes in protein secondary structures under native solution conditions. MMS subtracts the solvent backgrounds from sample signals by alternately flowing proteins and matched buffers through a microfluidic chamber, yielding clear amide I spectra from microliter volumes. In this study, we validated MMS on canonical globular proteins, bovine serum albumin, mCherry, and lysozyme, demonstrating accurate detection and resolution of α-helix, β-sheet, and mixed-fold structures. Carbon monoxide (CO), traditionally known as a toxic gas, has emerged as a potential therapeutic agent due to its cytoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and vasodilatory properties. This study explores the development of CO-releasing polymeric micelles as a controlled delivery system for biomedical applications. Using ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP), we synthesized diblock copolymers incorporating CO-releasing moiety diphenylcyclopropenone (DPCP) with hydrophilic polyethylene glycol (PEG) to enhance solubility and stability of the overall CO releasing system. Despite the emerging public health concern related to the use of electronic cigarette vapors (ECV), its impact on lung cancer is poorly understood. We assessed the effect of ECV on lung tumorigenesis in a mouse model of lung adenocarcinoma. Mice were exposed to either room air, combustible cigarette smoke (CCS), or ECV 2 hours daily for 8 weeks at which lung samples were harvested and studied for different outcomes. We found that CCS, but not ECV, led to a significant increase in tumor burden. Deciduosis is a benign condition characterised by the transformation of subepithelial connective tissue into decidual-like cells, typically occurring in response to hormonal changes during pregnancy. Although benign, cervical deciduosis may macroscopically resemble malignant lesions, leading to diagnostic uncertainty. This report presents two cases of cervical deciduosis diagnosed in early pregnancy. Both patients presented with first-trimester vaginal bleeding, and speculum examination revealed extensive wart-like lesions covering the cervix. Histopathological examination of cervical biopsies confirmed decidual changes. In pregnant women presenting with threatened miscarriage, a thorough local examination and biopsy of atypical cervical lesions are essential to exclude malignancy. As cervical deciduosis …

Purpose: We conducted metabolomics and spatial cell transcriptomics of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN), recognized pancreatic cancer precursors, to identify oncometabolites that inform upon risk of malignancy of IPMNs.

Experimental design: Untargeted metabolomic analyses were performed on cystic fluid from 125 patients with low-grade (LG) dysplasia or high-grade (HG) dysplasia with/without concurrent pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC; IPMN/PDAC). Predictive performance of individual metabolites for identifying HG or PDAC/IPMN was determined and compared with CA19-9 performance. Data were intersected with metabolic profiles of resected IPMN tissues and murine Kras;Gnas IPMN cell lines as well as spatial and single-cell transcriptomics of IPMNs.

Purpose: Magrolimab is a monoclonal antibody directed against the macrophage checkpoint CD47 on myeloid leukemia cells that was preclinically synergistic with azacitidine-venetoclax, warranting further clinical evaluation.

Patients and methods: In this phase Ib/II study, the triplet combination of azacitidine, venetoclax, and magrolimab was evaluated in adult patients with first-line (ineligible for intensive chemotherapy) and relapsed/refractory acute myeloid leukemia. BACKGROUND: Lumbar fusion remains a prevalent treatment for degenerative conditions; however, its limitations have sparked interest in alternative motion-sparing procedures. Our study evaluates 24-month postoperative patient-reported outcomes from an OUS pilot clinical study on a novel lumbar total joint replacement (TJR) for degenerative conditions.

In this study I explored and analyzed how the queer experiences of an anonymous higher education institution in the western United States’ self-identified queer faculty and staff intersected with the discursive framing of the college’s dependent healthcare structure and documents. Within a critical paradigm I designed research around a high-density theoretical approach to weaving various branches of queer theory together with critical theory around policy and law in relation to queer bodies and hostile heteronormative policy environments. METHODS: This scoping review followed Joanna Briggs Institute methodology and PRISMA guidelines. CINAHL, EMBASE, PubMed, PsychINFO, and SCOPUS were searched for studies examining attitudes toward pig islet xenotransplantation among patients, healthcare workers, and other stakeholders.

This study examined the differences between three different intensity levels during a Wingate Anaerobic test (WAT) on the pedal power asymmetry and descriptive variables in recreationally active individuals. Six recreationally active volunteers completed a counterbalanced design of three separate WAT at different intensities. Test intensities consisted of a low resistance (5%), traditional resistance (7.5%), and a high resistance (8.7%) of each individual’s body mass in kilograms (kg). Mental health stigma, often resulting in misdiagnosis, delayed treatment, and decreased patient engagement, represents a significant barrier to effective nursing practice. The project’s practice-focused question examined whether an educational program could improve provider knowledge and attitudes toward mental illness. Background: Little is known about preoperative hemodialysis dosing for patients with end-stage kidney disease. We assessed whether changes in preoperative hemodialysis dose (compared to and controlling for baseline dose) are associated with postoperative mortality in patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis.

Methods: We identified fee-for-service Medicare beneficiaries receiving hemodialysis for end-stage kidney disease who underwent surgical procedures between January 1, 2011, and November 30, 2020. Follow-up ended December 31, 2020. Background: Adolescent patients with Anorexia Nervosa (AN) and Atypical Anorexia Nervosa (AAN) admitted to an inpatient medical unit are at risk of relapse if they do not receive follow up treatment. Yet treatment adherence following discharge remains poor. One possible reason for poor treatment adherence is insufficient support for parents. This pilot study explored the preliminary impact of a novel family navigator (FN) intervention on adolescent patient treatment adherence following inpatient care.

Introduction: Teenage pregnancy remains a critical global health issue, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The intergenerational transmission of teenage pregnancy underscores the need for targeted interventions. Existing research on intergenerational approaches is fragmented, with varying methodologies and outcomes.
