Measuring Nursing Student’S Performance, Attitude And Psychological Impact Of Different Evaluation Approaches In Simulation Education At Arab American University- Palestine, Mohammad Asia, Maysa Kassabry

This study aimed to compare the competency and psychological impact of using the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) to the traditional evaluation methods (TEM) in evaluating cardiology skills among nursing simulation students. Thirty-two students were initially assessed using TEM, and one week later using the OSCE. Scores of the student competency were compared using paired sample t-tests, while semi-structured interviews were used to expand on qualitative measures. Students' mean scores were significantly higher in using OSCE than in TEM (p< 0.001). Students' attitudes and perceptions of both approaches showed favorable attitudes towards OSCE on most of the items. The qualitative data showed that students with lower GPAs and utilizing the OSCE approach experienced higher anxiety. The psychological impact of evaluation approaches requires additional investigation.

Costs for UpToDate, the library’s primary point of care clinical tool, had increased to half of the acquisitions budget but without user affiliation data to facilitate cost sharing. A working group led by librarians was formed to review alternatives. Surveys indicated users preferred UpToDate and renewal was recommended by the working group, with costs being shared between the academic unit and the hospital. These results showed that the library can effectively lead analysis projects with this level of visibility, but persuading users to consider alternatives to a trusted tool can be challenging.

Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this research was to examine the relationship between yoga practice and perceived health status, and to evaluate the benefits of yoga as a pain management strategy for low-income individuals.

Methods: An observational cross-sectional study was conducted and analyzed using 2022 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) data. Logistic regression analyses examined whether the practice of yoga affected perceived health status, and whether low-income individuals were more likely to practice yoga for pain management.

Genetic diversification, the process by which genetic variation arises in a population, is fundamental to evolution by natural selection. Mutation, a central diversification process, fuels adaptation across species, including in cancer. Yet most new mutations are neutral or deleterious on cell fitness, raising the question of how mutation-driven adaptation persists. To explore this paradox, I developed a spatial agent-based model (ABM) in which population fitness emerges from individual cells acquiring mutations at varied rates and with diverse fitness effects. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project addresses the significant gap in emergency nursing preparedness for managing pediatric emergencies in adult-focused emergency departments. A quasi-experimental pre/ post intervention design was used to implement a pediatric-specific training intervention consisting of didactic education and simulation-based learning. A total of 87 night shift ED nurses participated. Knowledge and self-efficacy were measured using pre- and post-intervention surveys and assessments. The training equipped nurses with critical skills to manage pediatric emergencies more confidently and competently, addressing both clinical and emotional barriers. Knowledge scores significantly improved, t = -20.45, p < 0.001, with post-test means rising from 5.56 (SD = 1.58) to 9.03 (SD = 0.32). Post-intervention self-efficacy scores also increased significantly, t(86) = -21.57, p < .001, indicating greater confidence in pediatric emergency care. These findings validate the effectiveness of structured pediatric emergency training in enhancing nurse competency and self-efficacy. Lewin's change theory and Newman’s systems model guided this quality improvement project. The results support the continuation of the program in population-specific education and simulation as part of annual competency development. This project demonstrated that targeted pediatric training improves nurse preparedness and has the potential to enhance patient outcomes in a setting traditionally focused on adult care.

Introduction Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) have been linked with increased risk for maternal and offspring complications in high-income settings. However, in resource-limited settings, studies with robust measurement of HDP, including severity and timing, and perinatal outcomes are limited.

Tandem lesions pose unique challenges in the endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke. We aimed to compare the clinical and procedural outcomes of patients with tandem lesions and extracranial internal carotid artery (ICA) complete occlusion versus those with moderate to severe stenosis.

This is a subanalysis of a multicenter cohort of patients with acute anterior circulation tandem lesions treated with intracranial mechanical thrombectomy and carotid artery stenting, between January 2015 and December 2020. Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb) infection infects human alveolar macrophages (HAMs). In freshly isolated HAMs from 28 healthy adults, we observe large inter-individual differences in bacterial uptake and growth, with tenfold variation in M.tb load by 72 h. While M.tb infection triggers expression changes of numerous host mRNAs, we examined which genes are most variably expressed (VE genes) between donors, as potential biomarkers of individual tuberculosis (TB) risk. The HAM RNA transcriptome following infection revealed thousands of differentially expressed (DE) genes and differential secretion of 25/27 proteins. Accurate and timely diagnosis remains a major clinical challenge, hindered by the limitations of conventional histopathological methods, which often rely on labor-intensive staining protocols and subjective interpretation by specialized pathologists. These methods can fail to capture the full molecular and phenotypic heterogeneity of tumors, leading to increased diagnostic time, cost, and variability. To overcome these challenges, we developed a novel label-free ultraviolet (UV) microscopic imaging technique that exploits the intrinsic optical absorption properties of cellular nucleic acids and proteins. Drug-induced liver injury poses significant challenges in drug development and in clinical care. This study builds on prior work developing a Human Liver Virtual Twin by creating a Multiscale Computational Fluid Dynamics framework that integrates patient-specific anatomical data to predict acetaminophen-induced liver injury as a demonstration of its capability. The model bridges vascular, lobular, and cellular scales to simulate dynamic blood flow, drug transport, and injury mechanisms that accurately reflect clinically observed spatial heterogeneity. Results demonstrate accurate blood flow dynamics, predictions of hepatocellular damage, and a scalable framework for studying spatial heterogeneity applicable to other hepatic pathologies. Background: This report shares a best practice approach to low-fidelity simulation as a pedagogical method in disaster triage training for undergraduate nursing students.

Methods: This study utilized multi-year quantitative data such as student age, gender, GPA, prior simulation experience, and self-reported confidence in the START Triage application. It also utilized a secondary qualitative analysis of the debriefing process.

Results: Students who participated in a simulation event playing the role of a disaster victim scored significantly higher on subsequent performance as TRIAGE practitioners than students without roleplay experience. Introduction: Understanding predictors of smoking cessation medication efficacy facilitates the ability to enhance treatment effectiveness. In our pilot trial, exenatide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, adjunct to nicotine patch improved smoking abstinence compared to nicotine patch alone. This secondary analysis explores potential baseline characteristics associated with differential treatment response to exenatide.

Aims and methods: The parent trial randomized (1:1) 84 smokers with prediabetes and/or overweight to once-weekly placebo or exenatide, 2 mg, subcutaneously. A significant gap in standardized discharge procedures was identified at a nonprofit, community-based clinic serving male residential patients with substance use disorder (SUD) and co-occurring mental health conditions. BACKGROUND: Dysferlin (DYSF) has a crucial role in sarcolemmal repair. While DYSF mutations commonly manifest as limb-girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMDR2) or distal Miyoshi myopathy, atypical manifestations, such as asymptomatic hyperCKemia and pseudometabolic myopathy, are rarely reported. We describe clinical, serologic, radiologic, genetic, and muscle pathology findings of three patients with rare dysferlinopathy phenotypes and long-term follow up in one of them. We also review the literature pertinent to uncommon forms of dysferlinopathy presenting with hyperCKemia and pseudometabolic phenotype.

BACKGROUND: Sustaining facial fractures may pose significant challenges to patients' health and quality of life. In the United States (U.S.), facial fractures account for 20 % of all sports-related injuries in pediatrics and many of these injuries are associated with traumatic brain injury. The objective of this study was to identify overall and sports-related incidence rates of facial fractures presenting to U.S. hospital emergency departments from 2014 to 2023 and define demographic risk factors for these injuries.
