RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: Financial toxicity, defined as the financial burden and stress experienced due to medical costs, is increasingly recognized as a key patient-reported outcome and has been linked to cost-related non-adherence in adult populations. However, its prevalence and impact in pediatric imaging are unknown. We examined the prevalence and predictors of financial toxicity among families of children undergoing outpatient imaging and its association with imaging non-adherence.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a prospective cross-sectional survey of parental caregivers of children (< 18 years of age) undergoing outpatient imaging at two free standing children's hospitals in the U.S. (July 2024-May 2025). Financial toxicity was measured using the adapted FACIT-COST instrument and scores < 26 indicated high financial toxicity. Multivariable logistic regression examined associations between family characteristics and high financial toxicity.

OBJECTIVES: Examine relationships between quantitative measures of language and sound exposure in the NICU and infant neurobehavior.

STUDY DESIGN: Sixty-four preterm infants (≤28 weeks of gestation) had language and sound exposure measured across four time points: within two weeks of birth and at 30, 34, and 35-41 weeks postmenstrual age (PMA). Neurobehavior was assessed at 35-41 weeks PMA using the NICU Network Neurobehavioral Scales.

RESULTS: Higher average decibel levels in the NICU environment were associated with lower infant orientation scores (p = 0.04, β = -0.33). Higher peak decibel levels were associated with greater hypertonia (p = 0.01, β = …

The mechanism by which lipids regulate membrane proteins remains an open question. While many protein structures reveal associated lipids, neither binding nor regulatory mechanisms can be gleaned from frozen static snapshots, as these processes occur in the context of a dynamic membrane at equilibrium. In this study, we combine single-molecule experiments with computational analyses of lipid dynamics and lipid-solvation energetics to understand how changes in the lipid composition of the membrane influence the dimerization of the CLC-ec1 chloride/proton antiporter. Occupational therapy is uniquely positioned to address these challenges through occupation-based, trauma-informed interventions that promote resilience, empowerment, and engagement in meaningful activities. This doctoral capstone addressed these complex needs through a multifaceted approach that included a scoping review, program development, advocacy, and educational initiatives. Home health occupational therapy (HHOT) promotes independence and safety within the home, yet patients and caregivers often experience challenges implementing therapy recommendations after discharge. This mixed-methods study explored the lived experiences of patients and caregivers who participated in HHOT to identify barriers and facilitators to implementing occupational therapy recommendations and inform the development of a caregiver education toolkit. Adults who received HHOT within the previous six months and informal caregivers completed an online survey, with a subset participating in semi-structured interviews. STUDY SETTING AND DESIGN: A multi-method, multi-source investigation included secondary analysis of certification data of advanced practice midwives and a cross-sectional online survey with closed- and open-ended items. Advanced practice midwives' active certification data were used to compare self-reported demographic characteristics of advanced practice midwives who reported working in the discipline of midwifery to those who did not (n = 9704). Admixed populations comprise a large portion of the human population worldwide, but are often excluded from genome-wide association studies (GWASs) due to analytic challenges. Our group developed Tractor, a local-ancestry-informed GWAS tool designed for admixed samples that produces accurate ancestry-specific effect sizes and boosts the discovery power to identify ancestry-enriched loci. However, Tractor operates under an assumption of unrelated samples. Here, to address this gap, we propose Tractor-Mix, which allows for well-calibrated association studies in datasets containing admixed samples with relatedness. Here we developed and deployed the blended genome exome (BGE) method, a DNA library approach that generates low-pass whole-genome (1–4× mean depth) and deep whole-exome (30–40× mean depth) data in a single sequencing run. BGE is cost-effective, empowers most genomic discoveries possible with deep whole-genome sequencing and captures global common single-nucleotide polymorphism diversity. We applied BGE to sequence >53,000 samples from the PUMAS Project (Populations Underrepresented in Mental Illness Associations Studies), including African, African American and Latin American populations. Melanization of the insect cuticle requires dopamine as a precursor of melanin and involves key enzymes in dopamine biosynthesis including Tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and Dopa decarboxylase (Ddc). This capstone project developed doctoral-level clinical skills in the management of chronic pain. This capstone project also implemented a six‑week chronic pain management program for independent community‑dwelling older adults at Dow Rummel Village. Eleven adults aged 50–95 participated in weekly 45‑minute group sessions addressing adaptive equipment use, graded exercise, energy conservation, nervous system regulation, stress management, and sleep hygiene. Seven participants completed pre‑ and post‑intervention measures using the Brief Pain Inventory–Short Form and the Pain Self‑Efficacy Questionnaire. This project focused on a gas chromatography-flame ionization detector/mass selective detector (GC-FID/MSD) combined with headspace-solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) sampling to analyze terpenes present in four cannabis samples. Roseofungin, a polyene macrolide antibiotic produced by Streptomyces roseoflavus, was evaluated for antiviral activity against Influenza A virus using complementary in vitro, in ovo, and preliminary in vivo toxicity models, supported by molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations. The compound exhibited antiviral activity against multiple influenza A virus subtypes, including an oseltamivir-resistant H1N1 strain, with EC₅₀ values ranging from 2.0 to 2.5 μg/mL and selectivity indices of 20–25. Functional assays demonstrated that roseofungin interfered with early stages of the viral life cycle by reducing viral adsorption and partially inhibiting neuraminidase activity. Background Despite a general improvement in the HIV burden over the past two decades, gendered social determinants including intimate partner violence (IPV) continue to affect women's vulnerability to HIV, which could be further exacerbated as resources dwindle over the coming years. Our study aimed to quantify recent trends in the HIV burden, the magnitude of the HIV burden associated with IPV, and the potential impact of declining financial support globally.
