Periodontitis is a common disease that affects the gums and the bone supporting the teeth, often leading to tooth loss. It results from a complex interaction between bacteria and the body’s immune response. Some people are more susceptible than others, and genetics may play a role. In this study, we focused on a genetic variation (called a polymorphism) in a gene known as TLR4, which helps the immune system recognize harmful bacteria. This educational intervention involved enhancing knowledge and competency of nursing staff in terms of application of motivational interviewing (MI) techniques to improve adherence to prescribed psychotropic medications among patients with mental health conditions. The project met criteria for a staff education initiative, directly addressing the ongoing issue of psychotropic medication nonadherence, a prevalent and pressing challenge at the project site. Clinicians observed frequent missed doses and treatment discontinuation, leading to symptom relapse, emergency room visits, and avoidable hospital admissions. Abstract

This collaborative class zine assignment uses a shared PowerPoint format to deepen student learning while building community. Students contribute visual reflections (graphics, diagrams, quotes, or doodles) weekly or periodically throughout the semester. Faculty provide reflection prompts about key takeaways and unclear concepts (sample prompts included). The resource includes both sample LMS instructions and a ready-to-use PowerPoint zine template that works across all disciplines. By combining metacognitive reflection with creative expression, students consolidate learning by finding new connections and applications. The collaborative format creates community connections and joy while students learn from peers' diverse perspectives.

BACKGROUND: Tranexamic acid (TXA), is commonly administered prophylactically to reduce blood loss in patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA). However, its effect has never been studied. We hypothesized that no difference exists in the degree of fibrinolysis and blood loss between patients receiving prophylactic TXA and placebo.

METHODS: This double-blinded randomized-controlled trial included 50 patients undergoing primary THA in 2021-2023. Clinicaltrials.gov (NCT03897621). Rotational-thromboelastometry (ROTEM) were performed to test blood coagulability using non citrated whole blood (NATEM) and blood treated with TXA (T-APTEM). BACKGROUND: Direct oral anticoagulants and percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) devices were approved for use in 2010 and 2015, respectively. It is unknown to what extent, if any, these new stroke preventive therapies have impacted hospitalizations for thromboembolic (TE) events.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate temporal trends in AF-related hospitalizations for acute ischemic stroke (AIS), transient ischemic attack (TIA), and systemic embolism (SEE) in the U.S. from 2010 to 2021.

Introduction: Objective was to describe the association between baseline characteristics and the number of Symptom Screening in Pediatrics Tool (SSPedi) assessments completed over an 8-week period. Methods: This was a sub-analysis of a cluster randomized controlled trial among 10 sites that were randomized to the intervention group. Participants were English- or Spanish-speaking pediatric patients 8–18 years of age newly diagnosed with cancer. Participants were prompted to complete SSPedi three times weekly for 8 weeks. Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are widely associated with mental health disorders, such as depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and suicidality. Resilience plays a role in mediation and moderation of these associations, yet there is limited data from Kenya on this. This cross-sectional study examined the role of resilience in the relationship between ACEs and mental health outcomes among 1,972 participants aged 14-25 years in the Nairobi Metropolitan area. The goal of this study was to explore associations between single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and umbilical cord blood concentrations of buprenorphine and its metabolites following maternal administration. This is a sub-study of a prospective observational cohort investigation which included pregnant women receiving buprenorphine for opioid use disorder during pregnancy. Following delivery, umbilical cord blood samples were collected and genotyped using a pharmacogenetic panel. About a quarter of the world’s population is infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Growing antibiotic resistance by this microorganism is a major problem in the therapy of the disease. M. avium-M. intracellulare that emerged as a major opportunistic infection of HIV/AIDS continues to afflict immunocompromised individuals. We describe the use of liposome-encapsulated antibiotics in the experimental and clinical therapy of mycobacterial infections, as well as recent experimental liposomal vaccines against tuberculosis. Liposome-mediated intravenous or inhalational delivery of antibiotics enhances the antibacterial effects of the drugs, particularly for infections of resident macrophages, where the liposomes are passively targeted. Background: Lymphopenia has been associated with in-hospital, early, and late mortality. We aimed to elucidate differences in baseline characteristics in patients with lymphopenia with and without acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and determine predictors of in-hospital mortality in this patient population.

Methods: Patients ≥ 18 years of age with lymphopenia were identified in the National Inpatient Sample (2017-2021) and stratified according to ARDS diagnosis. Predictors of in-hospital mortality were determined using multivariate analyses with a logistic regression model.

Results: From 183,185 patients with lymphopenia, 10,420 (5.7%) had ARDS, of which 92.8% had coronavirus disease 2019. The patients with ARDS suffered …

The present study provides, for the first time, both minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum mycoplasmacidal concentration (MMC) values as antimicrobial susceptibility profiles of Thai MG and MS field isolates. This article offers a reflective account of the Polish adaptation of the Heroic Imagination Project (HIP), a global educational initiative founded by Philip Zimbardo to promote everyday heroism through psychological awareness. As HIP took root in Poland, we developed a robust infrastructure of certified trainers, academic collaborators, and educational centers, reaching over 250 schools and 800 educators. Grounded in core psychological principles -- such as the bystander effect, social conformity, and prejudice -- the program empowered participants to resist negative social influences and cultivate moral courage. BACKGROUND: Podoplanin (PDPN) has emerged as a functionally relevant biomarker and chemotherapeutic target expressed by OSCC cells. PDPN signaling can directly increase tumor cell invasion and metastasis, and also inhibit host lymphocyte activation and immune response. BACKGROUND: Advanced stage ovarian carcinoma has a poor prognosis with recurrence rates of over 80%, 5-year survival of 36-45%, and limited response to standard therapy. Pembrolizumab and lenvatinib are FDA approved for treatment of microsatellite stable (MSS)/mismatch repair proficient (pMMR) endometrial and renal cell cancers. Early phase II studies have shown promising results in a variety of advanced solid tumors, including ovarian cancer. Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are a serious complication of diabetes, associated with high recurrence and amputation rates. Adherence to offloading devices is critical for wound healing but remains inadequately monitored in real-world settings. This study evaluates the SmartBoot edge-computing system-a wearable, real-time remote monitoring solution integrating an inertial measurement unit (Sensoria Core) and smartwatch-for its validity in quantifying cadence and step count as digital biomarkers of frailty, and for detecting adherence. Background/Objectives: Prostate cancer (PCa) is diagnosed at an earlier median age, more advanced stage, and has worse clinical outcomes in African American (AA) men compared to European Americans (EA).

Methods: To investigate the role of aberrant DNA methylation in tumor-adjacent stroma (TAS), methyl binding domain sequencing (MBD-seq) was performed on AA (n = 17) and EA (n = 15) PCa patients. This was independently confirmed using the long interspersed nuclear element-1 (LINE-1) assay.
