Implementation Of Post Falls Huddles In Skilled Nursing Facility, Princess Lomax

Evidence-Based Practice Project Reports

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the quality improvement project, implementation of the post fall huddle in a long-term care facility. Falls are the most common problem in adults 65 years and older. Falls in this population can have devastating effects, often leading to significant changes in morbidity or death. Adults in long term care settings have an increased risk of falling and having a subsequent fall due to an acute illness, weakness, or confusion (CDC, 2015). At the skilled facility, there has been a significant increase in hospitalizations due to injuries sustained from falls. To address this …

Organizational Risk In Multi-Sector Health Partnerships: A Case Study Of Oregon's Accountable Health Communities, Shauna Jean Nicole Petchel May 2020

Organizational Risk In Multi-Sector Health Partnerships: A Case Study Of Oregon's Accountable Health Communities, Shauna Jean Nicole Petchel

Dissertations and Theses

The literature on collective action has documented that the perception of organizational risk -- both the uncertainty of potential outcomes and the meaning attached to them -- is an important factor in whether and how organizations engage in cross-sector collaborations. Yet there are few examples to date that document how health and social service leaders perceive organizational risks in cross-sector health partnerships focused on social determinants of health, or how their perceptions influence organizational commitment and willingness to engage in these partnerships over time.

This research aimed to fill this gap through a mixed methods case study of health and …

A conductive channel-containing membrane includes a membrane layer, and a SPPl connector polypeptide variant that is incorporated into the membrane layer to form an aperture through which conductance can occur when an electrical potential is applied across the membrane. A method of sensing a molecule, such as a polypeptide or nucleic acid molecule, makes use of the conductive channel- containing membrane. A method of DNA sequence makes use of the conductive channel-containing membrane.

Disruption Of The Electron Transfer System Within The Protein 3-Ketosteroid-9Α-Hydroxylase (Kshab) Of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, Olivia Esteireiro May 2020

Disruption Of The Electron Transfer System Within The Protein 3-Ketosteroid-9Α-Hydroxylase (Kshab) Of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, Olivia Esteireiro

Honors Program Theses and Projects

Uncovering the mode of electron transport within the 3-ketosteroid-9-hydroxylase, KshAB, enzyme complex from Mycobacterium tuberculosis will reveal previously unknown possibilities towards curing tuberculosis infections. The KshB protein was mutated at one possible site of electron transfer – an arginine at location 286 – to rupture its cooperation with the KshA complex to prevent the bacteria from gaining energy from the breakdown of steroids as a fuel source. The arginine was mutated to an aspartic acid and alanine to get varying chemical properties to replace the original amino acid. Experimentation included over-expressing the wildtype and mutant proteins in E. coli, …

Demographic And Socioeconomic Characteristics Of Canadian Medical Students: A Cross-Sectional Study., Rishad Khan, Tavis Apramian, Joel Hosung Kang, Jeffrey Gustafson, Shannon Sibbald

Health Studies Publications

BACKGROUND: While the importance of medical students' demographic characteristics in influencing the scope and location of their future practice is recognized, these data are not systematically collected in Canada. This study aimed to characterize and compare the demographics of Canadian medical students with the Canadian population.

METHODS: Through an online survey, delivered in 2018, medical students at 14 English-speaking Canadian medical schools provided their age, sex, gender identity, ethnicity, educational background, and rurality of the area they grew up in. Respondents also provided information on parental income, occupation, and education as markers of socioeconomic status. Data were compared to the …
