Improving Intersection Safety With Geographically-Targeted Crash Prediction Models In Utah, Atul Subedi
Student Research Symposium
This project aims to improve intersection safety in Utah by developing geographically-targeted crash prediction models. The lack of research investigating active mode crashes at signalized intersections in different geographical regions calls for this study. The objective of this research is to understand the factors associated with the frequency of active mode crashes at signalized intersections. Exposure variables such as AADT, pedestrian and bicycle volumes, and intersection-level variables such as crossing distance, speed limit, and presence of street lights were analyzed using a negative binomial regression model.
Energy Storage Can Increase The Value And Flexibility Of A Nuclear Power Plant But Makes Plant Economics More Subject To Uncertainty In Electricity Price, Jacob Bryan
Student Research Symposium
Regional electricity markets currently rely heavily on coal and natural gas resources to meet electricity demand. Intermittent renewable resources like wind and solar power are location-dependent and are not dispatchable resources. Flexible nuclear power, achieved through the use of integrated thermal energy storage, may be able to complement these renewable resources to provide clean, predictable power in an evolving electricity grid. This study considers such a flexible nuclear plant and seeks to address a fundamental modeling question: which uncertain model inputs have a significant effect on the economics of the system, and to what degree? These questions are addressed by …

Research On Modeling And Scheduling Of Virtual Power Plant With Dual Demand Response, Qiang Chen, Yi Wang, Kangshun Li
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Virtual power plant technology provides an effective means to aggregate distributed power and user side resources to participate in power scheduling. Most of the existing research focus on the scheduling optimization of distributed energy instead of the demand response of user side. The user side resources are divided into contracted reliable response load and non-contracted random response load, and the load response is regulated through price adjustment mechanism to adapt to the change of distributed. A virtual power plant optimal scheduling model with dual demands response is constructed, in which the maximizing overall profit of the power grid is …

Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Recent Studies on Precipitation-Hardened High-Entropy Alloys (HEAs) Demonstrate their High Strength and Thermal Stability, Making Them Promising Materials for High-Temperature Structural Applications Such as Nuclear Reactors. However, Many Existing HEAs Contain Cobalt (Co), Which is Unsuitable for Nuclear Applications Because of the Long-Term Activation Issue of Co. Co is Also Expensive and Considered a Critical Material for Other Applications. Therefore, It is Desired to Exclude Co from the Composition. a Co-Free (Fe0.3Ni0.3Mn0.3Cr0.1)88Ti4Al8 HEA Was Developed and Studied in This Work. in Contrast to Previous Co-Free HEAs, This Alloy is …

On The Performance Enhancement Of Beamspace Mimo And Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access For Future Cellular Networks, Sinasi Cetinkaya
On The Performance Enhancement Of Beamspace Mimo And Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access For Future Cellular Networks, Sinasi Cetinkaya
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The ever-growing demand for higher data rates and greater data capacity at lower cost has led the mobile cellular industry to investigate new physical layer techniques and possible utilization of unused spectrums at higher frequencies for next-generation cellular networks. Thus, exploitation of the millimeter-wave (mmWave) spectrum and non-orthogonal multiple-access (NOMA) have been envisioned as the most promising enablers in meeting capacity demand. Due to the smaller wavelengths offered in mmWave frequencies, it is possible to deploy many antennas into a relatively smaller physical space in mmWave frequencies. This property leads to a promising integration between mmWave and massive multiple-input multiple-output …
Murine Hearing Abr/Dpoae Assessments In Cmv-Infected Mouse Pups Receiving Peritoneal Antivirals Of Gcv, Quercetin+P188, Or A Combination. Controls Include Infected And Untreated And Non-Infected And Treated. Second Dataset Of Antiviral Assay In A Murine Stria Vascularis (Sv) Monolayer Cell Culture, David Britt, Albert Park

Ganciclovir (GCV) has been shown to be an effective antiviral for the treatment of congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) induced sensorineural hearing loss. However, dose-dependent adverse effects (e.g. neutropenia) require strict, burdensome monitoring, limiting GCV use in some patients. Quercetin is a flavonoid with antioxidant properties that has demonstrated antiviral therapy against CMV. Although more benign than GCV, quercetin has limited therapeutic value due to its poor solubility. We previously reported that GCV improves hearing thresholds in a murine model of cCMV. We also noted that solubilizing quercetin with poloxamer 188 (P188) and combining with GCV therapy amplified CMV inhibition in murine …
