Test 170: Allis Chalmers Model U (United), Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary.

All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University.

Unless otherwise noted, each tractor was apparently in good condition at the end of the testing …

Beneficiation Of Manganese Ores, Michael V. Healey Jan 1929

Beneficiation Of Manganese Ores, Michael V. Healey

Masters Theses

"The purpose of this investigation is to study the means of beneficiating domestic manganese ores in order that a marketable product may be made. Within the limits of the paper the term "Manganese ores" is applied to those ores mined primarily for their manganese content, to the exclusion of manganiferous iron and silver ores"--Object, page 1.

A Study Of The Determination Of Fluorine And Other Constituents In Fluorspar, Robert Knowlton Grantham Jan 1929

A Study Of The Determination Of Fluorine And Other Constituents In Fluorspar, Robert Knowlton Grantham

Masters Theses

"A method for the determination of certain constituents in fluorspar has been studied. Fluorspar can be complete decomposed by fuming with perchloric acid. Agitation and boiling is essential to a rapid and quantitative decomposition. Lead, ferric oxide, titanium oxide, aluminum oxide and total calcium have been quantitatively determined in the solution obtained by the perchloric acid method of decomposition. Silica cannot be determined quantitatively by the use of perchloric acid alone. Preferential solution of calcium carbonate by means of very dilute perchloric acid cannot be used as a method for determining calcium in carbonates in the presence of calcium fluoride"--Summary, …

The Manuals herein are written for conditions that exist in the Mississippi Basin and particularly the North Central States but will find general application with minor changes.

Irrigation Expansion On The Sevier River, Utah, With Special Reference To The Piute Project, O. W. Monson May 1928

Irrigation Expansion On The Sevier River, Utah, With Special Reference To The Piute Project, O. W. Monson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

On January 16, 1908, the State Board of Land Commissioners, on behalf of the State of Utah, undertook to build a reclamation project in the Sevier River Valley, intended to reclaim between 25,000 to 35,000 acres of the virgin lands lying on the west side of Sevier River in Sevier and San Pete Counties. From January, 1908 to January, 1914, the State expended nearly $1,000,000 for the construction of the reservior dm and the canal leading from it. Since that time nearly $200,000 has been spent for supplementary construction. This money was supplied by the State Reservior Land Grant Fund, …

Cuprous Oxide Rectification, Philip G. Cobb May 1928

Cuprous Oxide Rectification, Philip G. Cobb

Theses

It has been shown that cuprous oxide, when formed from a copper surface by suitable heat treatment, has remarkable rectifying properties towards alternating voltages applied through the oxide and copper. The purpose of our work was to investigate, the effect fully from all angles possible, and especially from those considerations affecting the constancy and permanence in the electric circuit.

The work ranged from furnace operation to tests of completed units, and further to the development of a theory explaining as completely as possible this rectifying property.

It soon became apparent, that here was ideal thesis material, and so, with proper …

A Few Notes From The Sanitary Engineering Field, Ronald Davies Ward Jan 1928

A Few Notes From The Sanitary Engineering Field, Ronald Davies Ward

Professional Degree Theses

"This paper, it is felt, may appear to be a somewhat disconnected discussion of a few points that have come to the writer's attention from his limited experience and practice in the field of Sanitary Engineering. It has not been the intention, however, to provide a discussion of continuity which would take the reader from the ground up through the process involved in the design and construction of any particular structure, system, or plant; but rather is it to be considered the writer's attempt - although probably a somewhat feeble one - to set forth in a note-book, as it …

Irregularities In The Productivity Of The Fry Sand In The Smith-Ellis Pool Of Northwest Brown County, Texas, Willard Ardell Schaeffer Jr. Jan 1928

Irregularities In The Productivity Of The Fry Sand In The Smith-Ellis Pool Of Northwest Brown County, Texas, Willard Ardell Schaeffer Jr.

Professional Degree Theses

"The Fry Sand of Northwest Brown County, Texas, as ordinarily defined, consists of irregularly distributed lenticular sand bodies of varying thickness, ranging up to more than thirty feet in some localities. It is quite generally conceded to be a member of the upper Strawn Group of the Pennsylvanian of Texas.

The Fry Sand is highly unconformable with relation to the strata both above and below, and is subject to abrupt changes of thickness within distances of but a few yards. It generally occurs as a light grey to white, fairly fine-grained, quite pure quartz sand, and where it is present …

Internal Combustion Engines, Neal Ham Jan 1928

Internal Combustion Engines, Neal Ham

Professional Degree Theses

"Every one is either directly or indirectly concerned with two types of power plants. The steam power plants of Kansas City furnish us with light, power, and transportation. In this day these are indispensable. The gas, or internal combustion engine power plant furnishes transportation, mainly and some power. Each of our big buses has an internal combustion engine power plant under the hood.

It will be our aim here to show how the internal combustion engines operates and discuss some of the types in use in automobiles and stationary power plants. When one contemplates the immense amount of power developed …

Cone Deformation Eutectics Using Sodium Chloride, Dolomite, And Alpite Rock, William K. Schweickhardt Jan 1928

Cone Deformation Eutectics Using Sodium Chloride, Dolomite, And Alpite Rock, William K. Schweickhardt

Bachelors Theses

"Heterogeneous Equilibrium, alone, is an extensive study in itself and no discussion of it will be given here. It is known from this study that different phases are formed in various systems, the system consisting of two or more components. Some systems form an eutectic, which is a mixture of two solids which combine to form a liquid at a lower degree of temperature than either of the milting points of the two solids, as shown in the two component system of KCl and LiCl¹; some systems form solid solutions in which there is no eutectic formed, and the solids …

Difference In Pyrometric Cone Equivalent Between Raw And Calcined Clay, Charles Alfred Freeman Jan 1928

Difference In Pyrometric Cone Equivalent Between Raw And Calcined Clay, Charles Alfred Freeman

Bachelors Theses

"In a recent survey of the refractories field with particular respect to the Pyrometric Cone Equivalent of different clays it was suggested that a difference in the P. C. E. value of clays might be found due to different stages of heat treatment that these clays had previously undergone. At present there is considerable apparent lack of information regarding this problem. It is evidenced largely in the samples of clay sent into commercial testing and research laboratories by manufacturers who are attempting to develop definite properties from a given clay or clay body. There is a large difference in the …

Diversion Of Mississippi Flood Water As Aid To Flood Control, R. W. Campbell Jan 1928

Diversion Of Mississippi Flood Water As Aid To Flood Control, R. W. Campbell

Professional Degree Theses

"For many years the lower Mississippi River valley has been in constant danger from high water causing disastrous floods. The important city of New Orleans, our typical French city, is below the surface of the Mississippi River at all stages, and its only means of protection at present is by a levee. Should this bulkwark give way, the whole of that city would be submerged. With this danger in mind, the writer has undertaken a study for, and design of a spillway above the city to reduce the danger caused by high water. Each year flood heights increase and the …

An Investigation Of The Mechanics Of Oil Migration From The Source Beds To The Reservoir Beds, William Reed Quilliam Jan 1928

An Investigation Of The Mechanics Of Oil Migration From The Source Beds To The Reservoir Beds, William Reed Quilliam

Professional Degree Theses

"The study of the migration and accumulation of petroleum has very naturally been analytic, with the result that we have had a variety of studies of its several features. the generation of petroleum, its migration and its accumulation in reservoir rocks is not a rapid process which may be accomplished and terminated in a comparatively short time, but one of long and almost continuous operation from the time of its inception. In this study the author is not attempting to formulate a new theory for the movement of oil from its point of origin to its final point of accumulation …

Drainage And Irrigation Of A Thirty-Six Square Mile Tract Of Land In Louisiana, Ralph Charles Dodge Jan 1928

Drainage And Irrigation Of A Thirty-Six Square Mile Tract Of Land In Louisiana, Ralph Charles Dodge

Bachelors Theses

"Because of the fact that I was unable to secure all of the necessary data concerning the topography of the section in question I made several assumptions. However, these assumptions were not made at random, as the land lies on the coast and is subject to the same conditions as does the southern portion of Jefferson County, Texas, of which I have accurate knowledge and which lies directly across Sabine Pass"--Introduction, page iv.

A Study Of Petroleum Emulsions, Howard Halcomb Gross Jan 1928

A Study Of Petroleum Emulsions, Howard Halcomb Gross

Masters Theses

"The producer of crude oil experiences a continuous source of trouble and loss in the emulsion problem. These emulsions cannot be entirely discarded for several reasons: First because it is a waste of natural resource and second because there are such large quantities that no feasible outlet could be found on account of fire hazard and stream polution [sic]. Further to keep these emulsions in storage for slow settling puts a storage burden on the producers. To handle the emulsions most economically many producers are treating them and a large number of methods for treating have been devised. The object …

The Solubility Of Inorganic Salts In Ether, Clarence Bernard Weiss Jan 1928

The Solubility Of Inorganic Salts In Ether, Clarence Bernard Weiss

Masters Theses

"The data on the solubility of inorganic salts in ether is scarce. Eder made a study of this subject and found few salts whose solubility could be called high. He used both hydrated and dehydrated salts. Neumann mentions the great solubility of aluminum chloride in ether, but did no work to find its exact proportions. It was thought that perhaps with this particular salt, a solubility curve might be obtained that would be both instructive and interesting. Therefore the major portion of this work was spent in determining the solubility of aluminum chloride in ether. Other salts whose solubilities were …
