Theoretical Analysis Of Oled Performances Of Some Aromatic Nitrogen-Containing Ligands, Mustafa Eli̇k
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
It is well-known that tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (Alq3) complex and N,N'diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,1'- diphenyl-4,4'-diamine compound (TPD) are widely used as electron transfer material (ETL) and hole transfer material (HTL) in organic light emitting diode (OLED) structure, respectively. Considering the reference materials, in the present work, the OLED performances of some cyclic aromatic structures such as 4,4'azopyridine [AZPY], 4,4'-bipyridine [BIPY], 1,2-bis[4'-(4-methylphenyl)2,2':6'2' '-terpyridin6-yl]ethyne (BISTERPY), 5,5'-diamino-2,2'-bipyridine (DABP), dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'c]phenazine (DPP), 4,7-phenanthroline (PHEN) including nitrogen atom have been theoretically analyzed. It is important to note that B3LYP/6-31G(d) and B3LYP/TZP levels of the theory were taken into account for the calculations about monomeric and dimeric structures, respectively. Additionally, the …

Preparation And Application Of Caffeic Acid Imprinted Polymer, Şeyda Karaman Ersoy, Esma Tütem, Kevser Sözgen Başkan, Mustafa Reşat Apak
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
In the present study, molecularly imprinted polymers were synthesized using caffeic acid (CA) as a template molecule and then used for the extraction of CA and chlorogenic acid (CLA) from complex matrices. Syntheses were carried out in tetrahydrofuran as porogenic solvent using 4-vinyl pyridine, methacrylic acid, acrylamide, and 1-vinyl imidazole as monomers, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as crosslinker and 2,2'-azobisisobutyronitrile as initiator. In polymerization processes, different ratios of the template:monomer:crosslinker (T:M:CrL) were used to obtain the most suitable polymer. Caffeic acid:4-vinylpiridine:ethylene glycol dimethacrylate's 1:4:16 mole ratio of MIP was determined as the most convenient polymer for CA recognition. In addition, nonimprinted …

Effects Of Zsm-5 Zeolite On Pyrolysis Of Polystyrene: From Stabilizing To Catalyzing, Qing Yuan Ma, Zhen Huang, Xuan Ren, Jia Jia Zhao, Fu Chen, Li Jun Teng
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Nonisothermal pyrolysis measurements of polystyrene (PS)/ZSM-5 zeolite hybrids are conducted in N2 and thermogravimetric results have been kinetically analyzed with different isoconversional methods. Experimental results show that the addition of 5 and 10 wt.% ZSM-5 zeolite has increased the initial pyrolysis temperature of PS while the addition of 20 and 30 wt.% ZSM-5 zeolite can significantly decrease the initial pyrolysis temperature of PS. Elevated activation energy is resulted by adding low zeolite amount whereas reduced activation energy is obtained by adding high ZSM-5 amounts. The effect of zeolite ZSM-5 on PS pyrolysis can thus be observed to transfer from stabilizing …

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are known to have a wide range of applications in various fields of discipline. In this research, the ability of metallic armchair (5, 5) CNT to detect acetaldehyde (C2 H4 O) was investigated using first-principles density functional theory (DFT) as implemented in Quantum ESPRESSO with the Generalized Gradient Approximation (GGA). Accordingly, it was found that C2 H4 O preserved the metallic behavior of the CNT. However, some bands are found to have overlapped in both the valence and conduction regions of the electronic structures of the resulting system that are mainly caused by the p orbitals of …

Waste Jean Derived Self N-Containing Activated Carbon As A Potential Electrode Material For Supercapacitors, Yavuz Gökçe
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
The rapid rise of the world population increases the annual amount of waste textile products. Textile products create a significant amount of CO2 , water, and chemical footprints during production. Therefore, the reusability of textile products has an important environmental and economic impact. Waste denim was used in this study to produce activated carbon (AC) samples as the alternative substance for supercapacitor electrodes. Characterisation studies showed that AC samples contain nitrogen originating from the elastane in the denim structure. Electrochemical characterisation tests proved the pseudocapacitive behaviour of the denim-derived AC due to the nitrogen content. Specific capacitance values observed for …

A Compendious Review Of Majorization-Based Resource Theories: Quantum Information And Quantum Thermodynamics, Gökhan Torun, Onur Pusuluk, Özgür Esat Müstecaplioğlu
Turkish Journal of Physics
The field of quantum resource theory (QRT) has emerged as an invaluable framework for the examination of small and strongly correlated quantum systems, surpassing the boundaries imposed by traditional statistical treatments. The fundamental objective of general QRTs is to characterize these systems by precisely quantifying the level of control attainable to an experimenter. In this review article, we refrain from providing an exhaustive summary of the extensive literature on QRT. Rather, our focus centers on a specific subliterature founded upon the theory of majorization. The primary aim is to augment our comprehension of genuine quantum phenomena manifested across diverse technological …

Modelling Long-Term Security Returns, Xinghan Zhu
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
This research focuses on the concerns of Canadian investors regarding portfolio diversification and preparedness for unexpected risks in retirement planning. It models market crashes and two main financial instruments as independent components to simulate clients’ portfolios. Initially exploring single distributions on mutual funds such as Laplace and t distributions, the research finds limited success. Instead, a normal-Weibull spliced distribution is introduced to model log returns. The Geometric Brownian Motion (GBM) model is employed to predict and evaluate returns on common stocks using the Maximum Likelihood Estimator (MLE), assuming that daily log returns follow a normal distribution. Additionally, the Merton Jump …

Terrestrial Craters As Analogues For Degraded Craters On Titan, Taylor M. Duncan
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Besides Earth, Titan is the only planetary body in our Solar System to currently have flowing liquid on its surface. Previous works note that dendritic and rectangular stream networks are present on a global scale on Titan, but do not map networks in the vicinity of Titan’s impact craters: Selk and Sinlap. The objective of this work is to understand how stream networks form adjacent to Titan’s impact craters. This information will inform future missions to Titan (i.e., Dragonfly) about the fluvial morphology of streams near their landing site. I conduct an analogue study with the stream networks at three …

Geometry In Spectral Triples: Immersions And Fermionic Fuzzy Geometries, Luuk S. Verhoeven
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
We investigate the metric nature of spectral triples in two ways.
Given an oriented Riemannian embedding i:X->Y of codimension 1 we construct a family of unbounded KK-cycles i!(epsilon), each of which represents the shriek class of i in KK-theory. These unbounded KK-cycles are further equipped with connections, allowing for the explicit computation of the products of i! with the spectral triple of Y at the unbounded level. In the limit epsilon to 0 the product of these unbounded KK-cycles with the canonical spectral triple for Y admits an asymptotic expansion. The divergent part of this expansion is known and …

Intrusion Detection: Machine Learning Techniques For Software Defined Networks, Jacob S. Rodriguez
Masters Theses
In recent years, software defined networking (SDN) has gained popularity as a novel approach towards network management and architecture. Compared to traditional network architectures, this software-based approach offers greater flexibility, programmability, and automation. However, despite the advantages of this system, there still remains the possibility that it could be compromised. As we continue to explore new approaches to network management, we must also develop new ways of protecting those systems from threats. Throughout this paper, I will describe and test a network intrusion detection system (NIDS), and how it can be implemented within a software defined network. This system will …

Physics and Astronomy Faculty Publications and Presentations
Pulsar timing arrays (PTAs) detect gravitational waves (GWs) via the correlations they induce in the arrival times of pulses from different pulsars. We assume that the GWs are described by a Gaussian ensemble, which models the confusion noise produced by expected PTA sources. The mean correlation h2μu(γ) as a function of the angle γ between the directions to two pulsars was predicted by Hellings and Downs in 1983. The variance σ2tot(γ) in this correlation was recently calculated [B. Allen, Variance of the Hellings-Downs correlation, Phys. Rev. D 107, 043018 (2023)] for a single noise-free pulsar pair at angle γ, …

Institutional authority and responsibility for allocating water to ecosystems (“ecologically available water” [EAW]) is spread across local, state, and federal agencies, which operate under a range of statutes, mandates, and planning processes. We use a case study of the Upper Missouri Headwaters Basin in southwestern Montana, United States, to illustrate this fragmented institutional landscape. Our goals are to (a) describe the patchwork of agencies and institutional actors whose intersecting authorities and actions influence the EAW in the study basin; (b) describe the range of governance mechanisms these agencies use, including laws, policies, administrative programs, and planning processes; and (c) assess …

Finite Charges From The Bulk Action, Robert Mcnees, Céline Zwikel
Finite Charges From The Bulk Action, Robert Mcnees, Céline Zwikel
Physics: Faculty Publications and Other Works
Constructing charges in the covariant phase space formalism often leads to formally divergent expressions, even when the fields satisfy physically acceptable fall-off conditions. These expressions can be rendered finite by corner ambiguities in the definition of the presymplectic potential, which in some cases may be motivated by arguments involving boundary Lagrangians. We show that the necessary corner terms are already present in the variation of the bulk action and can be extracted in a straightforward way. Once these corner terms are included in the presymplectic potential, charges derived from an associated codimension-2 form are automatically finite. We illustrate the procedure …

We present the first parton-level study of anomalous effects in triboson production in both fully and semi-leptonic channels in proton-proton collisions at 13TeV at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The sensitivity to anomalies induced by a minimal set of bosonic dimension-6 operators from the Warsaw basis is evaluated with specific analyses for each final state. A likelihood-based strategy is employed to assess the most sensitive kinematic observables per channel, where the contribution of Effective Field Theory operators is parameterized at either the linear or quadratic level. The impact of the mutual interference terms of pairs of operators on the sensitivity …

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) with highly toxic compounds mainly exist in small-sized particles and can induce considerable human health risks. Studies on PM2.5-bound PAHs and their source-specific human health risks still remain scarce. Daily PM2.5 samples (n = 119) were collected every three days from 2016 to 2017 in Taipei city, Taiwan. Fifteen PAHs in PM2.5 were analyzed via gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (GC/MS-MS). We utilized a positive matrix factorization (PMF) model, diagnostic ratios, and potential source contribution function (PSCF) to identify the origins of PM2.5-bound PAHs. The annual concentration of total PAHs (TPAH) was 0.79 ± 0.67 ng …

Euler Archive Spotlight: Translations Of Euler's Works To Languages Other Than English, Michael P. Saclolo
Euleriana
The Euler Archive is home to almost all of Euler’s original publications and roughly a quarter of them have accompanying translations to English. A small number of Euler’s works also have translations to a handful of other languages, namely, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Turkish that are available in the archive. We put a spotlight on these non-English translations in this issue.

Perfect Numbers, Uwe Hassler
Euleriana
We provide a selected review of results known or conjectured before Euler entered and changed the quest for perfect numbers. Then we discuss his contributions to the determination of Mersenne primes that fueled research on primality tests.
Euler’S Variational Approach To The Elastica, Sylvio R. Bistafa
Euler’S Variational Approach To The Elastica, Sylvio R. Bistafa
Euleriana
The history of the elastica is examined through the works of various contributors, including those of Jacob and Daniel Bernoulli, since its first appearance in a 1690 contest on finding the profile of a hanging flexible cord. Emphasis will be given to Leonhard Euler’s variational approach to the elastica, laid out in his landmark 1744 book on variational techniques. Euler’s variational approach based on the concept of differential value is highlighted, including the derivation of the general equation for the elastica from the differential value of the first kind, from which nine shapes adopted by a flexed lamina under different …
