In this article, motivated by novel nanofluid solar energy coating systems, a mathematical model of hybrid magnesium oxide (MgO) and nickel (Ni) nanofluid magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) stagnation point flow impinging on a porous elastic stretching surface in a porous medium is developed. The hybrid nanofluid is electrically conducted, and a magnetic Reynolds number is sufficiently large enough to invoke an induced magnetic field. A Darcy model is adopted for the isotropic, homogenous porous medium. The boundary conditions account for the impacts of the velocity slip and thermal slip. With the prevalence of online risks encountered by youth online, strength-based approaches such as nudges have been recommended as a potential solution to subtly guide teens toward safer decisions. However, most nudging interventions to date have not been designed to cater to teens’ unique needs and online safety concerns. To address this gap, this study aimed to better understand adolescents’ perceptions and feedback on online safety nudges to inform the design of more effective online safety interventions. Coastal habitats provide crucial nursery habitat for predatory fishes, but they are in decline worldwide, impacting economically important fisheries. Habitat restoration can simultaneously mitigate the effects of habitat loss and benefit predators (e.g., sportfish), although this relationship is understudied. Here, the response of juvenile sportfish to oyster reef and living shoreline restoration is compared to controls in the Indian River Lagoon, Florida prior to and following restoration for up to three years through examination of community (diversity, assemblage), population (abundance), biometric (size, body condition), ontogenetic, and trophic (gut contents, stable isotopes) dynamics. Since monolayer graphene was isolated in 2004, there has been significant interest in integrating layered materials into innovative device designs and hybrid materials to help solve pressing technological challenges. This is partially because they can typically be thinned to a two-dimensional (2D) form without suffering from roughness-induced scattering and can exhibit thickness-dependent variations in properties such as their energy band gap. Recent burgeoning machine learning has revolutionized our ways of looking at the world. Being extraordinarily good at pattern recognition, machine learning has been widely applied to many fields to solve challenging problems. This dissertation demonstrates the applications of machine learning on scanning-free fiber-optic imaging systems (FOISs), and on the design of anti-resonant fibers. In the first part, we propose a semi-supervised learning framework called the adaptive inverse mapping (AIP) to stabilize the imaging performance through multimode fibers (MMFs). Fundamental studies of material surfaces are of continued interest to the development and improvement of many modern technologies, e.g. catalysis, energy efficient electronics, and high-capacity batteries etc. This dissertation targets two distinct sets of molecule-surface interactions relevant to the continued development of structure-property correlations using tools from Density Functional Theory with added verification from ultrahigh vacuum surface-science experiments. The problem of understanding how biological species and infectious diseases can persist and spread in heterogeneous networks has brought a wide attention, recently highlighted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This dissertation investigates the connection between the structures of heterogeneous networks and population persistence/disease invasion. To do so, we propose a new index for network heterogeneity by employing the Laplacian matrix of population dispersal and its corresponding group inverse. The discovery of the three-dimensional topological insulator (TI) has enormously impacted our understanding of quantum materials. These novel materials are characterized by the topology rather than some order parameters. The TIs are the materials that exhibit insulating properties in the bulk while possessing the metallic state on the surface. These surface states are protected by time-reversal symmetry; as a result, the electrons featuring surface states are spin-polarized. After the discovery of TIs, other topological semimetallic (TSM) states were discovered, which enhanced the understanding and widened the reach of topological materials. Bragg diffraction is a natural phenomenon that arises from the coherent interference of scattered waves in multilayer structures with a well-defined periodicity. In practice, the physical size of these multilayer structures varies depending on the intended application, from micrometer-thick dielectric mirrors with tens of layers to centimeter-long Bragg gratings with ten-thousands of layers. This dissertation presents a novel methodology for creating a language practice using augmented reality that has never been used before. The design of a new app in AR and non-AR versions can evaluate the same practice methodology. MicroRaman (µRaman) spectroscopy is often regarded as a non-destructive technique, utilized to analyze limited materials, both terrestrial and extraterrestrial. Carbonaceous chondrite meteorites are of particular interest but they are dark (low albedo) materials, and thus absorb the majority of incident visible light. Raman excitation lasers can induce considerable localized heating, even when low laser powers are used. It has been previously suggested to utilize low power lasers of =0.4 mW to minimize damaging carbonaceous samples in several fields, including Meteoritics, Geology, Chemistry, and Paleontology. Quantum dots (QDs) are attractive because of their unique size-dependent optical and electronic properties and high surface area. They are tested in research for diverse applications, including energy conversion, catalysis, and sensing. Assembling QDs into functional solid-state devices while preserving their attractive properties is a challenge. CERCOM monitors 115 beach locations from Brooklyn – Montauk during the optimal Limulus Polyphemus breeding season. These beach surveys take place for approximately 15 weeks, ranging from May - August. These beach locations are marked specifically using GPS coordinates, to assure the same location is visited each year. Students and volunteers are required to attend a HSC Survey training orientation led by CERCOM’s research assistant, Mr. Kyle Maurelli. Surveying is done around tide and moon cycles (New/Full Moon). Hospitals are statistically more at cyber risk than all the multiple industries against ransomware, malware, hacking and internal threats. Guided by routine activity theory, the purpose of this exploratory multiple case study was to explore strategies utilized by hospitals' IT security managers to reduce cybersecurity breaches associated with sensitive data. This study examines and reports the trends of social engineering-based ransomware attacks over the past four years from three major technology corporations. The focus of the reports was on major threat actors and their attacks against the corporations and their clients. The data were organized chronologically by year, and prevalent or abnormal findings were shared in this report. It was found that social engineering attacks were tremendously effective. Many ransomware attacks stemmed from Phishing. Social engineering approaches allowed attackers to conduct breaches using ransomware applications like GandCrab and Ryuk. The use of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems has become common place and are being used in several different industries. These have evolved as the technology has progressed. The use of Internet of Things (IOT) devices makes for less human intervention to run daily operations in these industries. This can also allow hackers to gain access to these devices due to security holes that are overlooked. There have several different ways that have been exploited on SCADA networks and the goal is to recognize and secure them so hackers cannot gain access to them.
