Are Lagrangians Involving Fractional Derivatives Physically Viable?, Nicola Fabiano
Are Lagrangians Involving Fractional Derivatives Physically Viable?, Nicola Fabiano
Turkish Journal of Physics
The recent trend of incorporating fractional derivatives into Lagrangians prompts a critical assessment of their physical viability. This work analyzes such theories through the lenses of classical mechanics and quantum field theory (QFT), revealing profound foundational issues. While the nonlocal nature of fractional operators circumvents Ostrogradsky's theorem, it introduces more severe problems. Classically, these include a complicated variational principle and the violation of energy conservation due to broken time-translation symmetry. In QFT, the pathologies are fatal: the propagator violates the K\"all\'en--Lehmann spectral representation, leading to acausal propagation, ghost states, complex poles, and a loss of unitarity. We conclude that Lagrangians …

Electron-Loss And Electron-Capture Cross Sections In H + H₂⁺ Collisions, Saed J. Al Atawneh, Oqlah Al-Refai, Mohammed Abu-Seileek, Feras Afaneh
Turkish Journal of Physics
We investigate projectile electron-loss, target electron-loss, and target electron capture in H + H₂⁺ collisions using classical trajectory Monte Carlo (CTMC) and quantum-corrected classical trajectory Monte Carlo (QCTMC) methods within a fully four-body model. Energy-dependent cross sections are reported for all three channels. For projectile electron-loss, we additionally analyze impact-parameter-dependent probabilities and representative trajectories. The QCTMC method incorporates Heisenberg corrections, improving accuracy at low impact energies. Projectile and target electron-loss cross sections peak at intermediate energies and exhibit good agreement with H + H₂⁺ data at high energies. At low to intermediate energies, projectile electron-loss exceeds target electron-loss because the …
Nonlinear Mode Crossing And Spontaneous Frequency Comb Generation In Driven Magnetic Nanodisks, Hasan Pi̇şki̇n
Nonlinear Mode Crossing And Spontaneous Frequency Comb Generation In Driven Magnetic Nanodisks, Hasan Pi̇şki̇n
Turkish Journal of Physics
Nonlinear magnetization dynamics in confined nanostructures provide a rich platform for fundamental studies and advanced spintronic applications. Here, we investigate the driven dynamics of a perpendicularly magnetized permalloy nanodisk using high-resolution micromagnetic simulations. In the linear regime, geometric confinement quantizes the uniform precession into discrete radial standing spin-wave (SSW) modes. As the excitation amplitude increases, the fundamental Kittel mode exhibits a pronounced nonlinear frequency shift relative to the higher-order SSW modes, ultimately leading to a critical mode crossing associated with nonlinear resonance overlap and the breakdown of modal orthogonality. Time-domain analysis reveals that strong mode hybridization governs the ensuing dynamics, …

Microscopic Study Of Β-Decay And Stellar Weak Rates In Neutron-Rich Scandium Isotopes, Wajeeha Khalid, Jameel-Un Nabi, Maria Ramzan
Turkish Journal of Physics
This study provides a critical investigation of the β-decay characteristics of neutron-rich scandium isotopes (53-65Sc) using the proton-neutron quasiparticle random phase approximation (pn-QRPA) model. The theoretical framework allows for a microscopic understanding of spin-isospin excitation modes that are essential for examining weak interaction phenomena. Charge-changing Gamow-Teller (GT) strength distributions were calculated and found to agree well with existing experimental results, thereby confirming the model's capacity to accurately represent the nuclear configuration of these isotopes. The computed β-decay half-lives and corresponding log ft values exhibit good agreement with experimental data, further validating the GT strength distributions and reinforcing the consistency of …

Comparison Of Umbral Dot Physical Properties In Developed And Undeveloped Sunspots, Muhammed Ali̇ Çalişir, Ali̇ Kilçik, Vasyl Yurchyshyn
Turkish Journal of Physics
Sunspots are cool regions where the magnetic field is significantly stronger than in the surrounding photosphere, and their darkest central regions are known as the umbra. Umbral dots (UDs) are small, bright features within the umbra that represent convective motions partially suppressed by strong magnetic fields. In this study, high-resolution images from the Goode Solar Telescope (GST) at Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO) were used to analyze four sunspots at different evolutionary stages, including two developed and two undeveloped sunspots. The physical properties of UDs, including brightness, diameter, eccentricity, lifetime, and dynamic velocity, were measured and compared across these sunspots …

Machine learning interatomic potentials (MLIPs) provide an efficient approach to large-scale molecular dynamics simulations of high-entropy alloys. In this work, an MLIP trained on AIMD data was developed for the CrMnFeCoNi Cantor alloy and validated against DFT calculations. In addition, we compared MLIP results with those obtained using the classical modified embedded atom method (MEAM)-based interatomic potential for the CrMnFeCoNi Cantor alloy. The model achieved energy and force RMSEs of 7.39 x 10-6 meV/atom and 4.46 x 10-3 eV/A, respectively. Tensile simulations demonstrated that the MLIP accurately reproduced the stress–strain response, elastic constants, and deformation mechanisms observed in DFT calculations. …

Spacer-Mediated Gold Nanocube Arrays For Edge-Localized Excitonic Enhancement In Monolayer Mos2, Abdullah Efe Yildiz, Emre Ozan Polat
Turkish Journal of Physics
Plasmonic nanostructures offer an effective route for enhancing light-matter interaction in atomically thin semiconductors, whose optical response is intrinsically limited by their subnanometer active thickness. Here, we numerically investigate excitonic enhancement in monolayer (ML) Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS2) coupled to size-tuned gold (Au) nanocube arrays separated by thin aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) spacer layers. By varying the nanocube side length, the localized surface plasmon resonance is tuned across the visible spectral range to modulate the A- and B-excitonic transitions of monolayer MoS2.We show that the nanocube-size-dependent spectral redshift can be further controlled through the spacer material and …

Theoretical Construction Of Light Hexaquarks And Their Substantiation By Seven-Dimensional Representation Of Su(2) Group, Mayank Joshi, Shuchi Bisht, Navjot Hothi, Manish Bisht
Turkish Journal of Physics
This manuscript presents a theoretical approach to constructing light hexaquarks using up and down quarks. These light exotic hexaquarks are shown to exhibit a seven-dimensional representation of the SU(2) isospin group. Additionally, the isospin septuplet is developed along with the quintet, triplet, and singlet representations for these light exotic hexaquarks. These particles are essentially mesonic in nature and also satisfy the requirements of the Kronecker product. Furthermore, the physical characteristics and weights of the respective states are intrinsically provided for these light hexaquarks.

Toroidal Plasmonic Nanodimers For Enhanced Near-Infrared Emission In Heterostructured Inp Quantum Dots, Arda Gülücü, Emre Ozan Polat
Turkish Journal of Physics
Near-infrared (NIR) emitters operating in the 650--900 nm spectral range are highly attractive for imaging and sensing in turbid media. However, cadmium-free InP-based quantum dots (QDs) often exhibit limited brightness owing to nonradiative recombination pathways and inefficient photon outcoupling. In particular, heterostructured InP QDs may possess band alignments that induce partial spatial separation of charge carriers, thereby reducing the electron-hole wavefunction overlap. This characteristic modifies the intrinsic recombination dynamics and increases the sensitivity of their emission to the surrounding photonic environment. Here, we investigate silver toroidal plasmonic nanoantenna dimers (Ag TPNDs) using finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations as a geometry-tunable platform …

The Effect Of Spin Polarization On Ion-Acoustic Solitary Waves In Quantum Plasmas, Amirhosein Rezvani, Sedigheh Miraboutalebi, Leila Rajaei, Mahmoodreza Sharifian
Turkish Journal of Physics
The exchange interaction, a fundamentally quantum-mechanical phenomenon, can significantly modify the classical description of cold, overdense plasmas. These quantum effects can be systematically analyzed within the framework of quantum magnetohydrodynamic (QMHD) theory, which enables the use of separate momentum equations for spin-up and spin-down electron populations. In this study, we adopt this approach to incorporate exchange interactions for both spin species and investigate the excitation of ion-acoustic wave (IAW) solitons in the plasma system. Using a perturbative expansion method, the governing equations are reduced to a nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE), which admits solitonic wave solutions. The stability of these solitons …
Radiation Pressure And Membrane Dynamics In Cavity Optomechanics: Interaction Hamiltonian And Quantization, Mahmut Can Özuygur
Radiation Pressure And Membrane Dynamics In Cavity Optomechanics: Interaction Hamiltonian And Quantization, Mahmut Can Özuygur
Turkish Journal of Physics
Cavity optomechanics explores the interaction between light confined in optical cavities and mechanical oscillators, primarily driven by radiation pressure forces. These interactions enable significant advances in precision measurements, quantum information processing, and tests of fundamental quantum mechanics. This paper presents a detailed analysis of membrane vibration and radiation pressure force within a cavity optomechanical system. The membrane's equation of motion is derived, the radiation pressure force is evaluated within the Lorentz force formalism, and the corresponding interaction Hamiltonian is formulated. Quantization of the resulting Hamiltonian enables the investigation of quantum phenomena, including entanglement generation and quantum state transfer, and provides …
Observational Constraints On The Structure-Induced Dark Energy Model, Ali̇ Kazim Çamlibel
Observational Constraints On The Structure-Induced Dark Energy Model, Ali̇ Kazim Çamlibel
Turkish Journal of Physics
A new phenomenological dark energy model, originally associated with large-scale structure formation and proposed as a solution to the fine-tuning and coincidence problems related to the cosmological constant, was analyzed within the framework of General Relativity in a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime and its model parameters were estimated using cosmic chronometers and recent DESI data. It turns out that the proposed model can serve as an alternative evolving dark energy model with a novel equation of state function. Given the form of this phenomenological energy density ansatz, which rises with the nonlinear structure growth in the universe and declines as cosmic voids …

On Cosmological Equation Of State From The First Law Of Thermodynamics, Ch'ng Han Siong
Turkish Journal of Physics
We derive several equations of state for different types of energy from the first law of thermodynamics. We derive the equation of state of a Machian universe from the well-known energy formulaE=mc2. This equation of state is consistent with previously reported results. We then propose hypothetical forms of energy that lead to the equations of state of the Chaplygin gas, generalized Chaplygin gas, and modified Chaplygin gas. We also obtain the energy density of the Chaplygin gas by dividing the hypothetical energy by the volume of the universe, and find that it is consistent with previously reported results. Finally, we …

Design And Fabrication Of Petri Dish Optimized For High-Frequency Acoustic Microscopy Using 3d Printing, Tuna Pesen, Beyza Ceren Eren, Arda İnanç, Bora Akgün
Turkish Journal of Physics
High-frequency imaging in acoustic microscopy requires the use of Petri dishes with thin and acoustically transparent bottoms to minimize signal attenuation and distortion. Commercially available options suitable for this purpose are often expensive or limited in compatibility with custom setups. Here, we present a cost-effective and easily customizable alternative developed in our laboratory, consisting of a 3D-printed frame combined with commercially available stretch film. The stretch film serves as an ultrathin (8 µm thickness) base that supports efficient high-frequency acoustic transmission, enabling clear and reliable imaging. Beyond acoustic microscopy, the adaptable design is also compatible with other modalities such as …
Direct Minimization Of Hartree-Fock-Roothaan Energy Functionals Using Derivative-Free Optimization Algorithms: A Case Study On The Use Of Noninteger Slater-Type Orbitals, Ali̇ Bağci
Turkish Journal of Physics
This study presents an evaluation of derivative-free optimization algorithms for the direct minimization of Hartree−Fock−Roothaan energy functionals involving nonlinear orbital parameters and noninteger-order quantum numbers. The analysis focuses on atomic calculations employing noninteger Slater-type orbitals. Analytic derivatives of the energy functional are not readily available for these orbitals. Four methods are investigated under identical numerical conditions: Powell’s conjugate−direction method, the Nelder−Mead simplex algorithm, coordinate-based pattern search, and a model-based algorithm utilizing radial basis functions for surrogate-model construction. Performance analysis is first carried out using the Powell singular function, a well-established test case exhibiting challenging properties, including Hessian singularity at the …

Turkish Journal of Physics
This paper presents the horizontal solar radiation data for Osmaniye (37◦04′N, 36◦22′E), located in Mediterranean region of Türkiye, over the period 2014–2023. Solar radiation variability, recorded at 1-min intervals, was evaluated in terms of hourly, daily, monthly, seasonal, and annual averages. Over the 10-year periods, the mean daily total and daily average global radiations received on a horizontal surface were 1,360,000 W/m2 and 371.47 W/m2, respectively. The monthly averaged daily global radiation (averaged over the 10-year period) ranged from 202.94 W/m2 in December to 496.86 W/m2 in July. The seasonal average values of solar radiations were 452.14 W/m2 in summer, …
Two-Dimensional Inverse Scattering Solution Using Nurbs Expansion And A Deep Learning Method, Meisam Shafaee
Two-Dimensional Inverse Scattering Solution Using Nurbs Expansion And A Deep Learning Method, Meisam Shafaee
Turkish Journal of Physics
This paper presents a novel framework for solving two-dimensional (2D) inverse scattering problems by integrating nonuniform rational B-spline (NURBS) parameterization with convolutional neural networks (CNNs). Tra ditional pixel/voxel-based deep learning methods often suffer from high dimensionality and discretization artifacts, while purely geometric approaches lack robust inversion mechanisms. To address these limitations, we propose a hybrid frame work where the relative permittivity profile of an unknown scatterer is compactly represented as a NURBS surface, parameterized by a sparse set of control points and weights. This approach reduces the problem dimensionality over 16 times. On the other hand, using NURBS expansion ensures …

From Stability To Spintronics: A Comprehensive High-Throughput Investigation Of 2d Mf4 Lieb Lattices, Uğur Yorulmaz
Turkish Journal of Physics
The research on two-dimensional (2D) materials which have intrinsic magnetism and exotic electronic struc tures is an important quest in condensed matter physics. The Lieb lattice offers a unique platform for studying strongly correlated electron phenomena. In this work, we systematically investigated the structural, dynamical, mechanical, electronic, and magnetic properties of monolayer transition metal tetrafluorides (MF4, where M = Ag, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hf, Mn, Mo, Nb, Ni, Pd, Pt, Rh, Ru, Sc, Ta, Ti, V, W, and Y) arranged in a 2D Lieb lattice, using first-principles calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) with Hubbard (U) corrections. Analytical Solution Of The Green’S Functions For The Poisson Problem Outside A Disk, Mohammad Khorrami
Analytical Solution Of The Green’S Functions For The Poisson Problem Outside A Disk, Mohammad Khorrami
Turkish Journal of Physics
The Poisson problem in the space outside of a disk is investigated. Specifically, the Green’s function corresponding to the problem is calculated. The Green’s function equation is separable in terms of (oblate) ellipsoidal coordinates. Therefore, these coordinates are used to obtain a series expression for the Green’s function. This is done for both the Dirichlet and Neumann problems. The result is used to calculate the electric potential for some examples, with specific boundary conditions on a disk.
Symmetric Orthogonalization And Probabilistic Weights In Resource Quantification, Gökhan Torun
Symmetric Orthogonalization And Probabilistic Weights In Resource Quantification, Gökhan Torun
Turkish Journal of Physics
Transforming nonorthogonal bases into orthogonal ones often compromises essential properties or physical meaning in quantum systems. Here, we demonstrate that Löwdin symmetric orthogonalization (LSO) outperforms the widely used Gram–Schmidt orthogonalization (GSO) in characterizing and quantifying quantum resources, with particular emphasis on coherence and superposition. We employ LSO both to construct an orthogonal basis from a nonorthogonal one and to obtain a nonorthogonal basis from an orthogonal set, thereby mitigating ambiguity related to the basis choice in defining quantum coherence. Unlike GSO, which depends on the ordering of input states, LSO applies a symmetric transformation that treats all vectors equally and …
Optical Textures Of A Uniform Liquid Crystal Lattice: Monte Carlo Simulations With Newton Colors And Mueller Matrix Analysis, Yakup Emül
Turkish Journal of Physics
The optical textures of a uniform liquid crystal (LC) molecule lattice structure were explored through Monte Carlo (MC) simulations, combined with Mueller matrix (MM) formalism and Newton’s color theory. These simulations utilized a Lebwohl-Lasher (LL) type interacting LC lattice under periodic boundary conditions, generating ensemble-averaged configurations at two temperature regimes (kBT = 0.9 and 1.2), corresponding respectively to nematic and isotropic states. These configurations were then incorporated into the MM framework to evaluate the polarization states of transmitted light. To visually interpret the resulting interference phenomena, we propose a new visualization method based on a modern interpretation of Newton’s color …

Scalar Hybrid Meson B̄Gc, Bi̇rten Barsbay İnaç
Turkish Journal of Physics
The scalar hybrid meson Hbc, containing both heavy b and c quarks, represents an intriguing exotic state in QCD. In this article, we investigate its strong decay properties using three-point QCD sum rules. We focus on the two leading decay channels, Hbc → B+ D0 and Hbc → B0 D+, which are expected to dominate the decay dynamics. The B and D mesons produced in these decays each consist of one heavy and one light quark. The strong coupling constants at the corresponding vertices are extracted, and the partial decay widths …
The 1/C Expansion Of General Relativity In A 3+1 Formulation, Revisited, Mahmut Elbi̇stan
The 1/C Expansion Of General Relativity In A 3+1 Formulation, Revisited, Mahmut Elbi̇stan
Turkish Journal of Physics
We study the 1/c expansion of general relativity within a formulation that is compatible with both the Arnowitt-Deser-Misner and the Kol-Smolkin decompositions. The Einstein-Hilbert action takes a common form for those decompositions as they are dual to each other. We first develop a method to expand this generic form and then push the expansion up to c−3 order within this novel approach. Next, we apply our technique to the Arnowitt-Deser-Misner decomposition and expand it up to c−3 order explicitly. In order to demonstrate the applicability of our method and to highlight the duality at the level of expansion, we also …

Outburst Characteristics Of Transient Low-Mass X-Ray Binary 4u 1608-52, Can Güngör
Turkish Journal of Physics
We present a detailed analysis of the long-term X-ray light curve of 4U 1608–52, focusing on fast-rising exponential-decay (FRED) outbursts, low-intensity states, and quiescent intervals. By calibrating the onset times of the outbursts, we identify three distinct classes for the FRED-type events: (i) the long-high outbursts, exceeding ~50 d in duration with peak count rates above ~40 cnt s-1; (ii) the short-medium outbursts, with durations of ~20 d and peak count rates of ~30-50 cnt s-1; and (iii) the short-low outbursts, also lasting ~20 d but reaching only ~20-30 cnt s-1 at peak. Furthermore, we examine the relation between preoutburst …

Turkish Journal of Physics
New experimental data on the elastic scattering of the nuclear process 15N+11B at an energy of Elab=26.25 MeV were obtained on the DC-60 cyclotron of the INP RK. Based on a semi-microscopic analysis of the interaction of an accelerated 15N ion with 1p-shell nuclei 11B the effectiveness of the new B3Y-Fetal potential was studied. . The difference between the B3Y-Fetal potential and the traditional Yukawa potentials (M3Y-Reid and M3Y-Paris) is that its density-dependent parameters are determined from the saturation condition of nuclear matter at low energy. Analysis was performed on double folding optical model (DFOM) and so no for other …

Quasiparticle Weight And Effective Mass Of The Landau Liquid From The Complex-Frequency Formalism, Aydin Cem Keser, Oleg P. Sushkov
Turkish Journal of Physics
We present a method for calculating the effective mass and quasiparticle weight of a Landau Fermi liquid using time-ordered Green’s functions and a Wick rotation to the imaginary frequency axis. This technique simplifies the evaluation of self-energy derivatives by ensuring analytic properties compatible with contour deformations. We apply the method to the electron gas in both two and three spatial dimensions within the random phase approximation (RPA), and derive explicit expressions for the static and dynamic contributions to the self-energy. Our results confirm known limits at weak coupling and offer an accurate and transparent route to evaluate effective mass and …

Application Of Polarization Transfer Algorithm In Organic Molecules With Three Nonequivalent Coupled Spins, Dim Safin, Alexander Perepukhov, Sergei Rzhevskiy, Yuri Belousov
Turkish Journal of Physics
Polarization transfer between three $1/2$ nuclear spins in a specially prepared isotopically enriched molecule diethylphthalimide malonate-2-$^{13}$C,$^{15}$N molecule was obtained using the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) method. The polarization transfer was performed by implementing a sequence of radio frequency pulses and waiting intervals. Relaxation times and NMR spectrum for the studied nuclei were measured in samples of molecules with natural and enriched isotopes $^{13}$C and $^{15}$N. Measurements of the proton relaxation rate for diethylphthalimidomalonate and diethylpthalimidomalonate-2-$^{13}$C,$^{15}$N showed an increase in relaxation rate by a factor of 4 for protons bound to $^{13}$C,$^{15}$N nuclei. The use of the quantum polarization transfer method …

First-Principles And Deep Learning Frameworks To Predict The Electronic, Magnetic And Electrical Properties Of V-Doped Sic Nanotube, Debarati Dey Roy, Sevda Rzayeva, Sevinj Guluzade, Vusala Nabi Jafarova
Turkish Journal of Physics
Nowadays, with the miniaturization of nanoindustry, we are increasingly interested in doping effects for nanotube systems. In this study, based on density functional theory (DFT) and local spin density approximation (LDA) methods within Hubbard U corrections, the electronic, magnetic and electrical properties of single-wall silicon carbide nanotubes doped with vanadium were theoretically studied. Although the undoped SiC system is nonmagnetic, the V-doped SiC nanotube induces magnetism and the total magnetic moment of this magnetic material is equal to ~1 µB. Density of states calculations indicated that the magnetization of SiC:V single-wall nanotubes mainly comes from the 2p orbitals of carbon …
