The Determination Of Hydrogen Numbers Of Various Olefins And Unsaturated Fatty Acids Using A Semi-Micro Hydrogenation Apparatus And To Compare These Numbers To Their Iodine Numbers, Francis J. Romeo
Bachelors’ Theses
Many important industrial applications for fatty acids and their derivatives are based on the ability of the unsaturated members of a series to combine with other molecules through the reactivity of their double bonds.
Investigators for quite some time have sought means and methods for determining the number and the position of these double bonds and correlating the results as a means of identification for the unsaturation in fats and oils. Iodine addition to the double bond is employed generally in analytical work as a measure of unsaturation and as a means of separating acids of varying degrees of unsaturation. …

Geology Of The Hagan Coal Basin, Earl P. Harrison
Geology Of The Hagan Coal Basin, Earl P. Harrison
Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs
This study was undertaken with the foremost objective of determining the stratigraphy and structure of the area, and correlating it with known surrounding areas.
The method of study was through geologic mapping in the field. The formational contacts, faults and other features were studied in the field with the aid of aerial photographs. The sections were measured in the field by hand-leveling with a Brunton compass up across the exposures. The lithology of the formations was studied as the sections were measured. The base map was taken from a planimetric map prepared by the Soil Conservation Service from aerial photos. …

The Frost-Moved Rubbles Of Jumbo Dome And Their Significance In The Pleistocene Chronology Of Alaska, Clyde Wahrhaftig
The Frost-Moved Rubbles Of Jumbo Dome And Their Significance In The Pleistocene Chronology Of Alaska, Clyde Wahrhaftig
United States Geological Survey: Staff Publications
Jumbo Dome, a prominent landmark on the north side of the Alaska Range, is a small body of intrusive andesite surrounded by schist and by poorly consolidated sediments of Tertiary age. Frost-moved rubbles, consisting of coarse andesite blocks, almost completely mantlethe dome and have advanced outward from it across a gently sloping terrain for distances as much as 1 ¼ miles. Several different periods of rubble development are recognized, based on the amount of vegetal covering of the deposits, the preservation of their surface forms, and their degree of erosion by fluvial processes. The rubbles are not now moving and …
Paleoecology Of The Brachiopoda, Celia Faith Hendren
Paleoecology Of The Brachiopoda, Celia Faith Hendren
Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs
The immediate concern of the writer in the preparation of this thesis is not so much to give long statistical lists of conclusions (unfortunately this type of material is exceedingly scarce), but to sift the readily available facts in print and prepare a brief history of the work already accomplished on living and fossil Brachipoda. Where possible, there will be a discussion and evaluation of the views presented by different authors.

Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs
In 1884 Freund (1) heated a mixture of malonic ester and ethylenediamine and obtained a product which dried to give a high melting powder. He named the compound ethylenemalonamide and attributed a seven-membered ring structure to it.

Studies In Quantitative Paleontology Ii. Multivariate Analysis—A New Analytical Tool For Paleontology And Geology, Benjamin H. Burma
Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Faculty Publications
Multivariate analysis is the simultaneous comparison of three or more variables in order to determine the significance of their likenesses and differences. The technique has been in use for some thirteen years, but no simple account of the method has hitherto been available. An illustrative example from invertebrate paleontology is here used, but the method is applicable to any problem in geology involving several quantitatively known variables.
Geological Report Of Conrow Wood Creek Area 8 Miles N.E. Of Whitehall, Montana, Kenneth M. Judd
Geological Report Of Conrow Wood Creek Area 8 Miles N.E. Of Whitehall, Montana, Kenneth M. Judd
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
Plane table and pacing methods were used in the mapping of the individual areas, but an automobile traverse was used to tie the independent areas into a composite group that would be useful for the entire zone. All land marks, section corners, roads, fence lines, drainage, and geologic features were plotted in the field and later transferred to a master map.

Certain Loci Associated With A One Parameter Family Of Conics In Three Dimensions, Raymond Francis Lausmann
Certain Loci Associated With A One Parameter Family Of Conics In Three Dimensions, Raymond Francis Lausmann
Bachelors’ Theses
The conic sections and also the types of traces that might be obtained by the intersection of a plane with the ten real quadric surfaces have always been a source of great interest to me.
Lack of time has always been an obstacle to satisfying this curiosity. However, the opportunity for taking time was presented when the Department granted permission to write this thesis.
The Synthesis And Physical Properties Of Several Aromatic Fluorides, Charles J. Basso
The Synthesis And Physical Properties Of Several Aromatic Fluorides, Charles J. Basso
Bachelors’ Theses
Since the advent of the Manhattan Project, more attention is being focused on fluorine compounds. Most of the inorganic fluorides are well known and are being used daily in industry. However, the realm of organic fluorides has not been investigated much up until recently, mainly because of the lack of safe and efficient fluorination reactions. Only within the last twenty-five years have reliable, indirect methods of fluorination been developed.
The purpose of this thesis is to give an outline of the most important fluorination processes, speaking of laboratory scale operations. The author illustrates the synthesis of an· aromatic fluoride by …

On Matrices With Elements In A Principal Ideal Ring, William Leavitt, George Whaples
Department of Mathematics: Faculty Publications
We prove the following theorem.
THEOREM 1. Let D be any commutative principal ideal ring without divisors of zero, and A any matrix with elements in D whose characteristic equation factors into linear factors in D. Then there exists a unimodular matrix T, with elements in D, such that T-1 AT has zeros below the main diagonal.

An Annotated List Of The Orthoptera Of Nebraska Part I The Blattidae, Mantidae And Phasmidae, Harold A. Hauke
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
This paper is the first of a series on the Orthoptera of Nebraska. In 1932, while a graduate student at the University of Nebraska, the author began a taxonomic study of the Orthoptera, the result of which was an unpublished List of the Othoptera of Nebraska. The list has been studied and revised.

Studies Of Some Reactions Of Quinoxaline, 2-Methyl-, And 2,3-Dimethylquinoxaline, Delos Edward Bown
Theses and Dissertations
Although many compounds have been prepared which contain the heterocyclic nucleus known as the quinoxaline nucleus, very little fundamental experimentation has been reported by way of expanding the chemistry of quinoxaline beyond the basic condensation reaction and its valuable use as a means of characterization, for example, the reaction of vicinal diketones with o-phenylenediamine. Also, no know effort has been made to assemble the chemistry of the quinoxalines into one paper for ready reference. Additional interest is concerned with the chemotherapeutic value of basically substituted quinoxalines^1; however, this aspect of the problem will not be discussed. The chemistry of quinoxaline …
Application Of Electrical Prospecting Methods To Two Types Of Sulphide Ore Deposits, Robert Van Nostrand
Application Of Electrical Prospecting Methods To Two Types Of Sulphide Ore Deposits, Robert Van Nostrand
Masters Theses
"Although certain types of sulphide ores, especially those near the surface of the earth, lend themselves very well to electrical prospecting methods, quite the opposite is true of the extensive deposits of the type found in the Mississippi River Valley. The purpose of this investigation was to discover additional facts concerning two distinct types of sulphide ores, and therefrom to develop a new technique which would be applicable to prospecting for the lead and zinc deposits found in the Mississippi Valley"--Introduction, page 1.
