Test 431: Case Vac (Gasoline), Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary.

All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University.

Unless otherwise noted, each tractor was apparently in good condition at the end of the testing …

Use Of Motion Pictures In Laboratory Dynamical Studies, Carl Bailey, Jaan Jurisson, M. Eugene Rudd Jan 1949

Use Of Motion Pictures In Laboratory Dynamical Studies, Carl Bailey, Jaan Jurisson, M. Eugene Rudd

M. Eugene Rudd Publications

In student laboratory experiments in dynamics, as, for example, Newton's second law of motion or the conservation of momentum, it is, of course, highly desirable to allow motion with the least possible constraint and to observe the displacements of moving parts without using perturbing markers. This circumstance has led us to use motion pictures in the student laboratory for quantitative observation of rapid dynamic processes, a technique which is used in a well-known textbook.' The photographic method combines maximum freedom of movement with accurate observation of position as a function of time, if the camera frame speed is sufficiently high. …

Separation Of The Selenium Compounds In Seleniferous Plant Protein Hydrolysates By Paper Partition Chromatography, Arnold L. Smith Jan 1949

Separation Of The Selenium Compounds In Seleniferous Plant Protein Hydrolysates By Paper Partition Chromatography, Arnold L. Smith

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In 1943 Franke reported that the protein of "allolied" or "toxic" wheat carried the toxicant, and Franke and Painter in 1935 reported that those "toxic" proteins contained selenium which was in organic combination in the protein. There has been much speculation regarding the possibility of selenium replacing sulfur in the amino acids cysteine and methionine. The toxicity of selenium in selenium analogs of these compounds is similar to that of selenium occurring naturally in proteins seleniferous cereals, which indicated that the selenium may be present in the proteins as the analogue of these sulfur amino acids.

Geology And Mineralization Of The Minerva Mine No. 1, Hardin County, Illinois, Matthew Peter Nackowski Jan 1949

Geology And Mineralization Of The Minerva Mine No. 1, Hardin County, Illinois, Matthew Peter Nackowski

Masters Theses

"This study originally was undertaken to describe the witherite identified in specimens collected at the Minerva Oil Company Mine No. 1, Hardin County, Illinois. The original specimens of witherite were collected on October 25, 1948, by Charles E. Tothill, while on a senior trip through the fluorspar mine. The witherite was identified by Dr. O. R. Grawe, Chairman of the Geology Department, Missouri School of Mines, Rolla, Missouri, to whom the specimens were presented. Dr. Grawe suggested that the writer visit the southern Illinois fluorspar area to determine the occurrence and distribution of the witherite. This mineral had been described …

A Scheme Of Analysis For The Ceric Rare Earths, Herschel Gordon Frye Jan 1949

A Scheme Of Analysis For The Ceric Rare Earths, Herschel Gordon Frye

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The elements numbered 57 to 71 have presented a problem in analytical chemistry unparalleled by that of any other group since their discovery over the span of the nineteenth century. The striking similarities in chemical behavior of the fifteen elements comprising this series have almost completely baffled analysts in every attack, and it is only with the increased use of those newer methods, best described as being of a strictly physical nature, that much real progress has been achieved. Where time-honored classical wet methods have failed rather disappointingly, newer methods based upon the use of the spectrograph and similar instruments …

Plateau Characteristics Of Geiger Counters With Respect To Different Gas Mixtures And Pressures, Ralph E. Lee Jan 1949

Plateau Characteristics Of Geiger Counters With Respect To Different Gas Mixtures And Pressures, Ralph E. Lee

Masters Theses

"The section of a Geiger Counter is characterized by the so-called plateau curve. In this curve the counting rate of a given counter is plotted as a function of voltage, when the gas which it contains and the radiation to which it is exposed are both kept the same. These curves are characterized by a rapid rise beyond the starting potential (potential at which the counter begins to respond) until a more or less flat region is reached. This flat region is called the plateau of the curve. The slope and width of the plateau curve are dependent upon the …

A Determination Of The Surface Tension Of Tin In The Solid State, Charles Merton Rice Jan 1949

A Determination Of The Surface Tension Of Tin In The Solid State, Charles Merton Rice

Masters Theses

"Many studies have been made on the surface tension of metals but almost exclusively in the liquid state. Information on metals in the solid state is needed in pure physics to test theories of cohesion and in physical metallurgy to explain sintering. The common approach to the problem of surface tension in the solid state is to hang a weight on a thin wire or leaf of metal and then heat this weighted sample to a temperature at which flow is appreciable. The shrinkage or stretch of the sample is then a measure of the surface tension. Of the recent …

Management Of Native Deer In Nebraska, John H. Wampole, Edson Fichter Jan 1949

Management Of Native Deer In Nebraska, John H. Wampole, Edson Fichter

Nebraska Game and Parks Commission: Publications

Deer are on the increase in Nebraska. Reports of deer seen, of deer killed on highways, and of localized cases of damage to crops by deer have become increasingly frequent during the last ten years. Since Nebraska is not primarily a land of forests nor of great repute as a deer state, the presence of these mammals in more than rare occurrences arouses considerable interest-and creates new problems in wildlife management.

It is the purpose of these notes to answer some of the questions most commonly asked about deer in Nebraska, and to point out certain misunderstandings which have led …
