Conventional online kernel methods often yield an unboundedlarge number of support vectors, making them inefficient and non-scalable forlarge-scale applications. Recent studies on bounded kernel-based onlinelearning have attempted to overcome this shortcoming. In this paper, given a set of check-in data, we aim at discovering representative daily movement behavior of users in a city. For example, daily movement behavior on a weekday may show users moving from one to another spatial region associated with time information. Since check-in data contain both spatial and temporal information, we propose a mobility evolution pattern to capture the daily movement behavior of users in a city. Recent applications of Stackelberg Security Games (SSG), from wildlife crime to urban crime, have employed machine learning tools to learn and predict adversary behavior using available data about defender-adversary interactions. Given these recent developments, this paper commits to an approach of directly learning the response function of the adversary. Using the PAC model, this paper lays a firm theoretical foundation for learning in SSGs (e.g., theoretically answer questions about the numbers of samples required to learn adversary behavior) and provides utility guarantees when the learned adversary model is used to plan the defender's strategy. In this paper, we propose the first identity-based broadcast encryption scheme, which can simultaneously achieves confidentiality and full anonymity against adaptive chosen-ciphertext attacks under a standard assumption. In addition, two further desirable features are also provided: one is fully-collusion resistant which means that even if all users outside of receivers S collude they cannot obtain any information about the plaintext. The Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) is the last link in the chain of accelerators providing protons to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The SPS is currently the limiting factor on the maximum number of protons and thus collisions in the LHC. The SPS upgrade is under way to expand the discovery potential of the LHC. The accelerating system — Radio Frequency (RF) — is being improved. Models of the SPS RF feedback systems were developed. These models could assist with design choices, evaluating the upgraded system performance, and anticipate limitations and issues.

Grassland ecosystems often demonstrate very remarkable resiliency to severe natural and anthropogenic disturbances. Such resiliency following disturbances comes from either seed banks (germinable seeds in the soil) or bud banks (meristems or buds, such as bulbs, bulbils, and buds on rhizomes, corms, and tubers, that generate vegetative tissues). Although seeds are important for dispersal, initial colonization, and maintenance of genetic diversity; few grass seeds persist in the soil more than five years, plus seed production often is unreliable under grazing. Recent studies have demonstrated that >99% of aboveground stems in undisturbed tallgrass prairie were recruited from the bud bank while <1% were recruited from the seed bank. Even under grazed or disturbed sites in tallgrass prairie, belowground buds make a significantly larger contribution (80%) to plant recruitment than do seeds (20%).

The purpose of this study was to understand how a large-scale representation of agroecosystems and ecosystems respond to extreme hydrometeorological and climate extreme events (EHCE) within the Platte River Basin. The ability for agroecosystems and ecosystems to adapt to a changing and variable climate is vital for global water, energy, and food security. Two model experiments were performed, the first with a time span from 2000 to 2013 in which a dynamic leaf area index (LAI) MODIS15A2 product was implemented. This dissertation consists of two parts, both under the overarching theme of resolutions over a commutative Noetherian ring R. In particular, we use complete resolutions to study stable local cohomology and cotorsion-flat resolutions to investigate cosupport.

In Part I, we use complete (injective) resolutions to define a stable version of local cohomology. For a module having a complete injective resolution, we associate a stable local cohomology module; this gives a functor to the stable category of Gorenstein injective modules. This dissertation presents a homological dimension notion of Cohen-Macaulay for non-Noetherian rings which reduces to the standard definition in the case that the ring is Noetherian, and is inspired by the homological notion of Cohen-Macaulay for local rings developed by Gerko. Under this notion, both coherent regular rings (as defined by Bertin) and coherent Gorenstein rings (as defined by Hummel and Marley) are Cohen-Macaulay.

Given the choice, users produce passwords reflecting common strategies and patterns that ease recall but offer uncertain and often weak security. Addressing this usability-security tension in user authentication remains the key research issue in password studies for decades. In this thesis, we aim to understand how humans' cognitive abilities could be leveraged to design more secure and memorable authentication schemes. Siliceous – carbonate intervals in the Mid-­‐Continent are proven producible hydrocarbon reservoirs, however they have been understudied compared to more classic type reservoirs because of difficulties in characterization and correlations due to the heterogeneity and complex nature of their lithofacies. Understanding the characteristics of siliceous – carbonate lithofacies through macro and micro scale analysis can enhance the assessment of reservoir attributes and quality. Technical design can produce exclusionary and even discriminatory effects for users. A lack of discriminatory intent is insufficient to avoid discriminatory design, since implicit assumptions about users rarely include all relevant user demographics, and in some cases, designing for all relevant users is actually impossible. To minimize discriminatory effects of technical design, an actively anti-discriminatory design perspective must be adopted. This article provides examples of discriminatory user exclusion, then defining exclusionary design in terms of disaffordances and dysaffordances. A fundamental process in construction cost estimation is the appropriate adjustment of costs to reflect project location. Unfortunately, location adjustment factors are not available for all locations. To overcome this lack of data, cost estimators in the United States often use adjustment factors from adjacent locations, referred to as the nearest neighbor (NN) method. After going through 35 years’ (from 1979- 2013) NCEP North American Regional Reanalysis (NARR) data, year 2002 was selected for model simulation as it contained a “wet period” (May- June) and a “dry period” (July- August). Population status of gaur (Bos gaurus), a wild cattle, in most habitats where they are present, is still unknown. As the use of camera traps in wildlife studies are widespread, I developed photographic individual identification procedures and utilized encounter histories of gaur individuals from camera trap data to estimate gaur abundance and density using the spatially explicit capture-recapture analysis. The study was conducted at Kuiburi National Park, southwestern Thailand, comprised of dry evergreen forest, moist evergreen forest, and man-modified secondary forest during November 2013- January 2015. This thesis presents regulatory and biosynthetic mechanisms by which microorganisms produce secondary metabolites that can potentially be developed into drugs beneficial to humans. The first section shows the role of small signaling molecules in regulating the production of one of the novel antifungal metabolites, heat stable antifungal factor (HSAF), from Lysobacter enzymogenes.

This dissertation presents the results from experiments studying the pressure-dependence of properties associated with the glass transition in the glass-forming liquid cumene. Through the use of a diamond anvil cell, we achieve extremely high pressures over 40,000 atmospheres. A new technique is refined to directly measure the glass transition temperature Tg extremely accurately, and we show that thermodynamic scaling is capable of describing the liquid�glass transition boundary up to record-high pressures. Optical techniques are also implemented to probe the system dynamics in the viscous regime leading up to the glass transition. Objective To understand self-monitoring strategies used independently of clinical treatment by individuals with bipolar disorder (BD), in order to recommend technology design principles to support mental health management.

Materials and Methods Participants with BD (N = 552) were recruited through the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, the International Bipolar Foundation, and WeSearchTogether.org to complete a survey of closed- and open-ended questions. In the first project, an azide functional resin and tetra propargyl aromatic diamines were fabricated for use as a composite matrix. These systems take already established epoxy/amine matrices and functionalize them with click moieties. This allows lower temperatures to be used in the production of a thermoset part. These new systems yield many better mechanical properties than their epoxy/amine derivatives, but their Tgs are low in comparison.

Synthesis And Characterization Of "Click Inspired" Thiol-Ene-Fullerene Nanocomposites, Amber Danielle Windham

This work explores the covalent incorporation of C60 and Sc3N@C80 fullerenes into thiol-ene networks by a facile, one-pot photochemical reaction with multifunctional thiol and alkene monomers. Synthesis of disulfide bonds within the tri-functional thiol monomer served to photochemically initiate the reaction when cleaved. This was followed by thermal curing of the pre-polymer for preparation of fullerene-containing thiol-ene films. Films were characterized by standard techniques including infrared spectroscopy, gel percent, and thermogravimetric analysis.
