Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) are increasing present throughout the industrial, business, defense, and healthcare spaces. These lightweight and efficient operating systems are designed to run on embedded, resource constrained devices, often within cyber-physical systems (CPS). A defining characteristic ofRTOSs is that they are deterministic. Tasks are scheduled to run on fixed timelines within guaranteed execution windows. In Industry 4.0 applications for example, sensors must receive and process inputs within a fixed schedule to ensure products are properly manufactured. Despite unprecedented satellite Earth observation (EO) capabilities and free data availability, widespread adoption in coastal management remains limited due to persistent communication barriers between satellite experts and coastal practitioners. This dissertation addresses the fundamental challenge of translating satellite EO technical capabilities into management-relevant applications. Through synthesis of literature, stakeholder interviews, and two multi-year co-development case studies in Virginia's Middle Peninsula and Cape Cod, Massachusetts, this research identifies systematic barriers to satellite EO adoption and develops innovative frameworks for overcoming them.

Photodynamic therapy is a cancer treatment modality that involves the accumulation of a photosensitizer, exposure to visible light, and the presence of oxygen, resulting in the formation of highly reactive and cytotoxic singlet oxygen. PDT has been shown to be more effective as the fluence rate decreases due to oxygen availability and the absence of photobleaching. Trapped magnetic flux in superconducting radio-frequency (SRF) niobium cavities due to the incomplete Meissner effect is a significant source of rf losses. The relationship between flux expulsion and flux trapping sensitivity to the metallurgical state of 1.3 GHz and 3.0 GHz SRF niobium cavities fabricated from standard and cold-worked Nb sheets and subjected to various heat treatments has been studied. Flux expulsion increased with higher heat treatment temperature in all cavities. Nb cavities made from cold-worked sheets showed better flux expulsion after 800 ◦C/3 h compared to the standard SRF-grade Nb cavities. Similar flux expulsion was observed after annealing at …

There are certain families of graphs which yield optimal upper bounds on various Nordhaus-Gaddum characteristics of graph. In this paper, we will talk about bounding combinatorial algebraic connectivity, normalized algebraic connectivity, the Cheeger constant, and the isoperimetric number of a graph and its complement. Simulating human clients in mental health counseling is crucial for training and evaluating counselors (both human or simulated) in a scalable manner. Nevertheless, past research on client simulation did not focus on complex conversation tasks such as mental health counseling. In these tasks, the challenge is to ensure that the client’s actions (i.e., interactions with the counselor) are consistent with with its stipulated profiles and negative behavior settings. Studies in univalent function theory comprising the exponential of differential characterizations are rarely considered. The prominent study in this direction is the study of so-called α-exponentially convex functions. Here we study a class of analytic functions which satisfy an analytic characterization influenced by the definition of the multiplicative derivative and α-exponentially convex functions. Integral representation and coefficient inequalities of the defined function class are the main results of the paper.

Potassium (K) deficiency is a common yield-limiting factor in cotton (Gossypium hirsu tum L.) production across the U.S. Cotton Belt. Adequate fertilizer-K management is paramount to ensure optimum plant growth and development, minimizing yield losses. While machine learning models have demonstrated significant utility in automating complex decisions, they have also raised substantial concerns regarding fairness and equity. Here, we report the crystal structure of Escherichia coli glucokinase (GLK), which has phosphate bound in the cleft between the alpha and beta domains adjacent to the active site. A ternary complex consisting of GLK, glucose and phosphate is also reported in this work. Diffraction data were collected at 2.63 angstrom resolution for the phospate-bound form (R-work/R-free = 0.191/0.230) and at 2.54 angstrom resolution for the ternary complex (R-work/R-free = 0.202/0.258), both at 297 K. A B-factor analysis of the phosphate-bound GLK structure revealed consistently lower values for phosphate-interacting basic residues in the alpha 4, alpha 5 and alpha 9 …

This dissertation advances the real-world implementation of the Well Optimized Linear Finder (WOLF) method for high-speed Atmospheric Turbulence Compensation (ATC). Atmospheric turbulence introduces phase aberrations into optical wavefronts and degrades image quality in terrestrial imaging systems. Traditional phase diversity methods are computationally intensive and poorly suited to real-time operation. The WOLF method addresses these limitations through a novel, point-wise formulation of the optical transfer function (OTF) as a structured autocorrelation of the generalized pupil function (GPF). This formulation enables the estimation of phase aberrations at individual spatial coordinates with distributed computational complexity.

Programmers working on database-backed applications frequently face trade-offs between designing maintainable software and efficient software due to the overhead of querying a database. We demonstrate FlowDB, an analysis for database-backed programs that can aid in program transformations that allow a program to be written in a maintainable style while still being performant. FlowDB employs demand-driven control flow analysis (DCFA) to produce a set of query sites that may be evaluated during the execution of a program. This set of query sites may then be used by a developer or compiler to cache needed results.

Functional nanomaterials are revolutionizing electronic devices such as displays and photovoltaics, yet existing semiconductor manufacturing methods struggle to adapt to the unique properties of nanoparticles. In particular, quantum dots (QDs) display density-dependent properties such as tunable energy transfer, yet current preferred methods of producing QD patterns lack control over the density of QDs deposited in specific locations on a surface. Here, we present a photochemical method to generate QD patterns directly from solution onto a functionalized surface, which enables density control. Many firms are attempting to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across their value chain. However, this requires convincing suppliers to adopt relevant decarbonization practices, which is challenging when the suppliers perceive such practices as risky or detrimental for their economic well-being. Asian carp species pose significant ecological threats to North American freshwater systems due to their invasive nature and prolific reproduction. Their semi buoyant eggs develop while drifting downstream with the river current. Understanding early life-stage transport is therefore critical for predicting recruitment potential and guiding management efforts. Existing fluvial egg drift models, including those relying on 1-D hydraulics and fully 3-D CFD-based models, are either inadequate for complex braided rivers or too computationally demanding for large-scale application. In this work, I develop a view about what it means to share a social or conversational context with others, as well as what is normatively entailed by doing so. Working from a broadly Austinian perspective about the moral foundations of language use and how we use words to position ourselves within social space, as well as from a generally Stalnakerian social ontology (demarcating groups by dint of aligned or overlapping sets of commitments), I present three papers demonstrating how nonidealized, ordinary language philosophy can make sense of complex, real-world phenomena. Over an algebraically closed field, the double point interpolation problem asks for the vector space dimension of the projective hypersurfaces of degree $d$ singular at a given set of points.
After being open for 90 years, a series of papers by J. Alexander and A. Hirschowitz in 1992–1995 settled this question in what is referred to as the Alexander-Hirschowitz theorem. In this thesis, we use commutative algebra to prove analogous statements in the weighted projective space, a natural generalization of the projective space.

It comprises four first-author contributions that span underground wireless systems, over-the-air (OTA) channels, vehicular communications, and nanoscale molecular networks.

Supported Ionic Liquid Membranes (SILMs) have emerged as promising candidates for CO₂ capture due to their tunable solubility-selectivity and low energy requirements. However, challenges such as mechanical instability, limited scalability, and trade-offs in transport performance have impeded their widespread adoption.
This thesis explores a systematic approach to designing and optimizing SILMs for enhanced CO₂ separation by tailoring polymer–ionic liquid interactions, processing conditions, and material architectures. We introduced couple different novel approaches to incorporate latent variable information to multivariate mixture regression models with both Gaussian and count data. We also evaluated the performance of these models with existing best approaches with simulated data from various sampling structures and also evaluated one of the models performance with rice metabolite data that provided some novel insights as well as validating existing literature about performance and behavior of these metabolites. We validated the method using extensive simulations and a real-world application.
