The industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and digital twins are redefining how digital models and physical systems interact. IIoT connects physical intelligence, and digital twins virtually represent their physical counterparts. With the rapid growth of Edge-IIoT, it is crucial to create security and privacy regulations to prevent vulnerabilities and threats (i.e., distributed denial of service (DDoS)). This study presents a novel dual-model predictive maintenance framework designed to improve maintenance scheduling for components in industrial digital presses. The framework integrates two complementary approaches: a Threshold-Based Maintenance Approach (TBMA) for components operating within acceptable usage limits, and an Overdue Severity-Based Maintenance Approach (OSBMA) for those that have exceeded their expected lifespans or show signs of critical degradation. This study uses real-world operational data from a Konica Minolta C6000 press. In this project, we worked alongside members from an urban farm in South Dallas to learn about issues related to food justice, urban farming, and food deserts. Using participatory design research methods, we created data visualizations showing how society can reduce inequities relating to food access produced in historically underserved neighborhoods. Background: In this study, a new analytical approach was introduced to answer specific questions related to mortalities due to cerebrovascular diseases, heart diseases, and the association of these mortalities with twelve other causes of death (COD).

Methods: A multivariate time series forecasting model was developed utilizing each of the CODs by taking the weekly and yearly seasonality into account, and the mortality counts were forecasted using the most recent CDC weekly mortality count data. A new COD data matrix was structured for all CODs as a function of weeks by combining the observed and predicted values of the mortality counts. …

Southeast Tibet, a key region for the southeastward extrusion of the Tibetan Plateau, remains debated in terms of its tectonic deformation in response to the ongoing collision between the Indian and Eurasian plates. In this study, we applied shear-wave splitting analysis of core-refracted phases recorded by a newly deployed dense seismic array and six permanent stations to delineate crustal and mantle deformation processes. The observed fast polarization directions are predominantly aligned NNW–SSE, while the splitting delay times vary across four sub-blocks. Context. Supermassive black holes (SMBHs) grow primarily through gas accretion, observed as active galactic nuclei (AGNs). While mergers can drive luminous AGN episodes, secular processes may fuel a substantial portion of cosmic black hole growth. Whether these mechanisms can sustain high black hole accretion rates remains uncertain.

Aims. The aim of this study is to identify the secular mechanism driving high SMBH accretion rates, by targeting a galaxy with a moderately massive SMBH, high central gas densities, accretion rates of a few percent of the Eddington limit, and gas kinematics resolved close to black-hole-dominated scales.

Accurate measurement of note-to-note transitions is essential for analyzing articulation in clarinet performance. Traditional methods rely on either subjective amplitude thresholds—such as the time between 5% and 95% RMS levels—or direct measurement of tongue-reed contact time using reed-mounted sensors. These approaches are limited by their dependence on user-defined parameters or invasive hardware. This study proposes a computational alternative: ΔT, a curvature-based metric defined as the time interval between surrounding minima in the second derivative of the mouthpiece pressure envelope. Recent advances in large language models and retrieval-augmented generation, a method that enhances language models by integrating retrieved external documents, have created opportunities to deploy AI in secure, offline environments. This study explores the feasibility of using locally hosted, open-weight large language models with integrated retrieval-augmented generation capabilities on CPU-only hardware for tasks such as question answering and summarization. The evaluation reflects typical constraints in environments like government offices, where internet access and GPU acceleration may be restricted. The conversion of urea-containing wastewater into clean hydrogen energy has gained increasing attention. However, challenges remain, particularly with sluggish catalytic kinetics and limited long-term stability of urea oxidation reaction (UOR). Herein, we report the loosely porous CoOOH nano-architecture (CoOOH LPNAs) with hydrophilic surface and abundant oxygen vacancies (Ov) on carbon fiber paper (CFP) by electrochemical reconstruction of the CoP nanoneedles precursor. The resulting three-dimensional electrode exhibited an impressively low potential of 1.38 V at 1000 mA·cm−2 and excellent durability for UOR. Many adolescents report feeling overwhelmed, depressed, anxious, and hopeless in the face of global climate change. These feelings are both valid and antithetical to the necessary hope and courage it takes to address real-world environmental crises and contribute to meaningful societal impact. The Green Teams Program, an internship-based experiential learning initiative, prepares young professionals with skills and knowledge needed to address these challenges and provides an intentionally inclusive and safe environment for students from all backgrounds to do so. Dual-ion batteries (DIBs) usually use carbon-based materials as electrodes, showing advantages in high operating voltage, potential low cost, and environmental friendliness. Direct ethanol fuel cells (DEFCs) are a promising alternative to conventional energy sources, offering high energy density, environmental sustainability, and operational safety. Compared to methanol fuel cells, DEFCs exhibit lower toxicity and a more mature preparation process. Unlike hydrogen fuel cells, DEFCs provide superior storage and transport feasibility, as well as cost-effectiveness, significantly enhancing their commercial viability. In the process of electroless cobalt plating, the saccharin additive can significantly change the surface morphology, texture orientation, and conductivity of the cobalt coating layer. When the amount of saccharin was 3 mg·L–1, the cobalt coating transformed from disordered large grains to a honeycomb structure, with a preferred orientation of (002) facet on hexagonal close-packed (HCP) cobalt crystals. The resistivity of the cobalt film decreased to 14.4 μΩ·cm, and further decreased to 10.7 μΩ·cm after the annealing treatment. This study investigates the role of specific particle physics interactions in simulations of core collapse supernovae, with a focus on understanding how varying levels of inclusion impact the accuracy of gravitational wave predictions and results of simulations. Different research groups often approach these simulations with varying degrees of complexity, cutting corners by omitting certain reactions or simplifying others. This study evaluates the Hargreaves-Samani model for estimating solar radiation in five locations in Sarawak: Bintulu, Kapit, Sri Aman, Kuching, and Miri (Subis), using minimum and maximum temperatures as key inputs. Analysis reveals stable minimum temperatures (19.7 °C to 28.8 °C), supporting consistent solar radiation patterns favorable for Photovoltaic (PV) performance. Miri (Subis) recorded the highest daily maximum temperature of 44.8 °C, while Kuching had the lowest at 24.7 °C, highlighting significant regional climatic variability. Analysis also indicates strong solar potential in Bintulu, Kapit, Sri Aman, Kuching, and Miri, with radiation peaking at 7.5 kWh/m², though seasonal variations impact PV …

Using a novel dataset that includes within field variation in productivity, we find that partial field retirement for a prairie strip can not only provide conservation benefits, but can also be economically beneficial. We note that these results are for a single field with one year of data, and that additional years of production and fields are essential to determine how much these results can be generalized. This study examines the distribution and morphology of lakes under the Laurentide Ice Sheet (LIS) to investigate relationships with ice flow velocity, bedrock and basal thermal regime. Palaeo-ice streams and lobes were important components of the LIS, and properties of lakes in those regions are quantified at high resolution. Lake polygon shapefiles obtained from the HydroLAKES database contain data including water depth, volume and elevation. ArcGIS Pro is used to measure lake area, length, width, elongation, orientation, parallel conformity, density and packing. Background: The use of estimands in clinical trials was formalised with the adoption of the final International Conference on Harmonisation E9 Addendum on Estimands and Sensitivity Analysis in Clinical Trials (ICH E9(R1) Addendum) in November 2019. The declared objective of the ICH E9(R1) Addendum is to bring clarity and transparency to the research question of interest. For this to be achieved, the estimand must be described in accordance with the requirements of the ICH E9(R1) Addendum so that the target treatment effect is clear to all stakeholders. This study investigates the effects of ambient temperature on NOx (NO + NO2) emissions from model year 2011 and later heavy-duty (HD) diesel vehicles. Emission measurements were collected in Perry, Utah, using the Fuel Efficiency Automobile Test (FEAT) remote sensing device. Data were limited to model year 2011 and later to focus on vehicles likely equipped with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems, which control tailpipe NOx emissions and are shown to be temperature sensitive. HD diesel vehicles measured in the winter of 2020 had consistently higher NOx emissions than those measured in the summer of 2023, most significantly for vehicles …

To develop affordable tabletop neutron sources for neutron science research and education, GS20 scintillator glass doped with Americium-241 is being evaluated inside the BYU Isotropic Fission Chamber (IFC). Our 1985 sample was assessed for radiation damage and found to be in good condition. Neutrons from Am-241 interactions were optically flagged and observed using the IFC in conjunction with the LGB-PVT Neutron Pseudo Spectrometer Detector. Data was recorded via a CAEN desktop digitizer. The analysis code continues to be developed, and the neutron detector will be calibrated using deuterium-deuterium (DD) interactions in the future.
