Climate action is falling short where it matters most, on the ground, because those doing the work are often excluded from the system's tracking progress. The Global Stocktake (GST), meant to assess global climate efforts, remains focused on national governments, leaving out non-state actors (NSAs) who lead much of the real-world delivery. This exclusion stems from structural gaps in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the lack of formal ways for NSAs to engage meaningfully. Heavy metal contamination and antibiotic resistance are critical environmental and public health challenges, often exacerbated by co-selection pressures in polluted environments. This study identifies and characterizes Bacillus mobilis and Cupriavidus campinensis, two cadmium-tolerant bacterial species isolated from cadmium-amended soils with cadmium (Cd2+) concentrations exceeding those typically found in highly contaminated soils. Both species exhibited multidrug resistance and the ability to metabolize specific carbon substrates, including pyruvic acid methyl ester, itaconic acid, D-galactonic acid-γ-lactone, Tween-40, and Tween-80. Herein, we successfully synthesized, characterized, and examined the antibacterial activity of silver–cadmium bimetallic bionanoparticles prepared by mixing the aqueous extract of Sidaguri (Sida rhombifolia L.) and mixtures of silver nitrate and cadmium nitrate (yield = 0.2035 g). Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy–energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and particle-size analysis, revealed that the products exhibited a maximum absorption wavelength of 427.5 nm with an absorbance intensity of 0.790; a face centered cubic structure; Ag and Cd mass percentages of 98.52% and 1.28%, respectively; an average molecular diameter of 43.8 nm, and a polydispersity index of …

Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) are the most common bacterial contaminants in water sources, which pose significant threats to public health. The Effect Of Ozone Treatment On The Quality Of Biodiesel From Waste Cooking Oil, Sri Redjeki Setyawati, Singgih Wibowo

This research demonstrates the successful production of biodiesel from waste cooking oil (WCO) using the transesterification method. A methoxide solution, formed by employing a base catalyst and alcohol, facilitated the conversion of triglycerides into methyl esters and glycerol as the byproduct. The conversion process yielded 74% biodiesel and 13.5% glycerol content, with the remaining proportion consisting of water and contaminants. The application of ozone (O3) aeration proved effective in reducing contaminants—such as alcohol, unreacted catalysts, food residues and water—by approximately 60%. We employed the innovative freeze–thaw method to investigate the effect of chitosan (CS) molecular weights incorporated into polyvinyl alcohol on the morphology and physical characteristics of the hydrogel. This study aimed to unravel the intricate relationships between CS molecular weight variations, CS concentration, and the number of freeze–thaw cycles (4 or 6 cycles) on hydrogel swelling degree and weight loss. Incorporating CS improved the hydrogel structure and enhanced its porosity, resulting in remarkable increases in swelling degree ranging from 2 to 6 times the initial weight. Background A well group acts as a multi-well synergistic unit, and its configuration directly determines both the selection of optimal injection–production process and the utilization efficiency of stratigraphic conditions, ultimately affecting the overall performance of resource recovery. Numerous centrality measures exist to quantify the influence of edges within a network, with edge betweenness being one of the more well-known measures. However, such measures are inadequate in network percolation scenarios (e.g., the transmission of a disease over a transportation network of highways) as they fail to consider the changing percolation states of edges over time. Objective and Method The Xujiaweizi Fault Depression in the Songliao Basin contains multiple helium-bearing gas fields. However, the assessment methods for helium resources and helium accumulation patterns in the fault depression are yet to be determined. Using 3D seismic data and logs from 24 wells, this study optimized the helium resource assessment method based on natural gamma-ray spectral logging. Using the optimized method, this study quantitatively assessed the helium-generating potential and theoretical helium production of crust-derived helium in deep strata in the Xujiaweizi Fault Depression. Objective The Daning-Jixian block on the eastern margin of the Ordos Basin has achieved large-scale production of deep coalbed methane (CBM), with nearly 150 horizontal wells having been put into production. However, with a gradual decrease in formation energy during CBM production, gas wells exhibit declining liquid-carrying capacity. Consequently, liquid accumulation in wellbores has become a major factor affecting deep CBM production. Recovery of deep CBM shows the coexistence of free and desorbed gases, accompanied by significantly varying gas/liquid ratios. Objective and Method The exploration of the Luohe Formation, located on the roof of the Huanglong Jurassic coalfield, faces challenges such as a lack of consensus on the sedimentary environments of sandstone aquifers and unclear lithologies with water yield properties in the aquifers. To address these challenges, this study investigated sandstones in the Luohe Formation in the Gaojiapu Coal Mine, Shaanxi Province. Objective The Da’an area in Jilin Province, located in the southwestern Central Depression of the Songliao Basin, exhibits significant geothermal anomalies, which suggest substantial potential for geothermal exploitation. However, there remains a lack of detailed geothermal resource assessment of this area. Among conventional assessment methodologies, the volumetric method fails to accurately characterize irregular stratigraphic geometries and the spatial heterogeneity of parameters, while the Monte Carlo method suffers from limitations such as heavy dependence on the probability distribution models of geothermal reservoir parameters.
