Improving gamma-hadron separation is one of the most effective ways to enhance the performance of ground-based gamma-ray observatories. With more than a decade of continuous operation, the High-Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) Observatory has contributed significantly to high-energy astrophysics. To further leverage its rich data set, we introduce a machine learning approach for gamma-hadron separation. A multilayer perceptron shows the best performance, surpassing traditional and other machine learning-based methods. This approach shows a notable improvement in the detector’s sensitivity, supported by results from both simulated and real HAWC data. BACKGROUND: CHA2DS2-VASc score in cardiac amyloidosis (CA) with atrial fibrillation (AF) is believed to underestimate ischemic stroke risk, necessitating a better predictive model.

METHODS: Data were obtained from the National Readmission Database (NRD). Outcomes between CA-AF and no-CA-AF were compared using multivariate regression analysis to calculate adjusted odds ratios (aORs). AutoScore, an interpretable machine learning framework, was used to develop a stroke risk prediction model, and its predictive accuracy was evaluated with an area under the curve (AUC) using the receiver operating characteristic analysis.

The Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV) of Texas is a biodiversity hotspot due to its high alpha, beta, and gamma diversity and high regional endemism, which are at high risk of degradation. The region has lost 95% of its native thornforest habitat primarily due to agricultural and urban expansion. This study aims to evaluate the current vegetative structure and composition of restored thornforest sites located in the LRGV to identify restoration methods and site characteristics that affect forest restoration outcomes. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Augmented Reality (AR) technology regarding the respiratory system in improving students’ critical thinking skills and learning motivation. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest model. The subjects were 30 eleventh-grade students from a public high school in Garut City. Research instruments included a critical thinking test and a learning motivation questionnaire. Climate change and the global energy crisis have led to an increasing need for greenhouse gas remediation and clean energy sources. The electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is a promising solution for both issues as it harvests waste CO2 and chemically reduces it to more useful forms. However, the high overpotential required for the reaction makes it electrochemically unfavorable. Large language models (LLMs) can potentially help with verification using proof assistants by automating proofs. However, it is unclear how effective LLMs are in this task. In this paper, we perform a case study based on two mature Rocq projects: the hs-to-coq tool and Verdi. We evaluate the effectiveness of LLMs in generating proofs by both quantitative and qualitative analysis. Our study finds that: (1) external dependencies and context in the same source file can significantly help proof generation; (2) LLMs perform great on small proofs but can also generate large proofs; (3) LLMs perform differently on different verification projects; …

The COVID-19 pandemic-driven lockdowns offer a unique opportunity to examine how reductions in anthropogenic emissions impacted atmospheric aerosol composition in urban environments. This study investigates the day-night variability of size-resolved water-soluble ions in ambient particulate matter (PM) collected in Metro Manila before (November 2019–February 2020) and after (November 2020–February 2021) lockdown implementation. Using tandem Micro-Orifice Uniform Deposit Impactors (MOUDIs), aerosol samples were collected during daytime (06:00–18:00) and nighttime (18:00–06:00) periods and analyzed for key ionic species (sulfate, ammonium, nitrate, oxalate, sodium, chloride, calcium, and magnesium) via ion chromatography. The molecular-level organization of 1H-1,2,3-triazole in the liquid state is described as an extended hydrogen-bonded network, reminiscent of linear solution-phase polymer chains. Raman, IR, and no-D NMR spectroscopic data interpreted using density functional theory (DFT) computations reveal no evidence of the lower-energy 2H- tautomer or isolated 1H- monomers. Spectroscopic and computational results are consistent with an extended network of strong intermolecular hydrogen bonds throughout the pure liquid and explain earlier X-ray and solution-phase studies. In this paper we have assessed the ability of the domain-based local pair natural orbital (DLPNO)-CCSD(T) method to match the explicitly correlated CCSD(T) relative energies of (H2O)n=3–7isomers along with the impact of the level of theory utilized to optimize the water cluster geometries. The benchmark structures were optimized using a 2-body:Many-body procedure in which all of the 1- and 2-body contributions are computed using CCSD(T) while all of the higher-order many-body interactions are computed using MP2 (denoted CCSD(T):MP2). Purpose: Retrospective chart reviews in ophthalmology are essential for gaining clinical insights, but they remain labor-intensive and prone to error. Despite digitization through electronic health records, extracting and interpreting lengthy, unstructured patient histories remains challenging, particularly in ophthalmology, which relies heavily on both imaging and text-based reports. We introduce OphthoACR, a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act-compliant artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tool for automated chart review and cohort analyses in ophthalmology. The Challenge Of Achieving Attributability In Multilingual Table-To-Text Generation With Question-Answer Blueprints, Aden Haussmann

International Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities

Generating faithful text descriptions from data tables is a significant challenge in Natural Language Processing (NLP), especially for the world’s many low-resource languages. This paper investigates whether Question-Answer (QA) blueprints—an intermediate planning step where a model first asks and answers questions about the data—can improve the factual accuracy of multilingual table-to-text generation. This novel approach is tested on the TaTA dataset, which includes several African languages, by finetuning models with and without these blueprints.

The results show a key distinction: while the QA blueprint method improves performance for English-only models, these gains disappear in the multilingual setting. This paper’s analysis …

Radiation induced conductivity (RIC) can impact charge dissipation within highly insulating materials used in spacecraft in harsh space plasma environments. Previous Utah State University (USU) research analyzed only the equilibrium portions of an extensive RIC database for polymeric materials, including Kapton HN (Trademark). This confirmed that equilibrium RIC follows a standard theoretical model that is temperature and dose rate dependent. The current study provides a new analysis of RIC’s time-dependent behavior of the Kapton HN data from this database. Cyberbullying on social networking sites has become more prevalent. Most cyberbullying detection models often lack consideration of adversarial threads, leaving them vulnerable. This study evaluates the resilience of text-based cyberbullying detection models, constrained by limited available datasets, against word-level substitutions and character-level perturbations. We consider well-established ML techniques with real-world data and more recent LLM-based approaches to uncover model weaknesses. The results reveal that adversarial attacks can significantly reduce detection accuracy, e.g., most models are vulnerable to word- and character-level attacks with success rates up to 88% and 44%, respectively. Radiotherapy domain is known to impose undesired risk of radiation to normal tissue surrounding the tumor. So, the treatment planning systems are developing with time to introduce a perfect treatment. Organs at risks surrounding prostate tumors are sensitive to high doses of radiation. This study is aimed at comparing the efficiency of the three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) techniques during the treatment of prostate cancer. A cross-sectional study was performed in Middel Euphrate Csancer Center, Najaf , Iraq. A 25 patients with prostate tumor were enrolled. Potato production plays a vital role in global agriculture as a major food source for large populations. However, potato crops are highly susceptible to diseases, particularly Early Blight and Late Blight, which result in substantial yield losses. Timely detection and effective control of these diseases are essential for maintaining stable crop output. This study explores the integration of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and advanced image processing techniques to differentiate between diseased and healthy potato plants accurately. Hagfish produce extraordinary slime as a defense mechanism, releasing exudate from glands that rapidly form a fibrous, soft, ultra-dilute, water-capturing network upon contact with seawater (up to 10 000 times its original volume). ECU-MALNETT (ECU MALware NETwork Traffic) is a real world, reproducible dataset of labeled benign and malicious network flows built from the Peekaboo execution corpus. Peekaboo runs evasive malware with dynamic binary instrumentation and records raw host-level PCAPs while granting full Internet access, yielding noisy, real-world captures with background OS activity and concurrent processes. To derive trustworthy labels from these traces, we apply Construct, a baseline aware, zero-trust labeling framework. Construct first ingests a baseline capture to establish reference sets (DNS qnames, HTTP hosts, TLS SNIs, and socket endpoints) and grows a conservative benign IP pool only via whitelisted DNS resolutions. …
