In Mexico’s state of Yucatán, climate change impacts like prolonged and less predictable dry season length are manifesting as threats to agricultural production and food security. Nearly two thirds of Yucatán’s population is indigenous, many of whom live in rural communities that rely on rainfed subsistence agriculture (INEGI 2015). Ensuring sufficient food production in the face of climate change relies on the quality of agricultural soils. Exosomes are small lipid-based vesicles that can carry biomolecules from one cell to another. While exosomes are crucial to maintain homeostasis in healthy cells, they are exploited by unhealthy cells to aid disease progression. Exosomes likely facilitate disease progression via the transfer of disease-causing biomolecules from unhealthy to healthy cells. Exosomes are generated in Multivesicular endosomes (MVEs) and are then secreted into the extracellular space to travel to other cells. We report the first direct measurement of the inclusive branching fraction B(Bs→DsX) via Bs tagging in e+e-→ (5S) events. Tagging is accomplished through a partial reconstruction of semileptonic decays Bs→DsXℓν, where X denotes unreconstructed additional hadrons or photons and ℓ is an electron or muon. With 121.4 fb-1 of data collected at the (5S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider, we obtain B(Bs→DsX)=(60.2±5.8±2.3)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Context. Thanks to the relative ease of finding and characterizing small planets around M-dwarf stars, these objects have become cornerstones in the field of exoplanet studies. The current paucity of planets in long-period orbits around M dwarfs makes such objects particularly compelling as they provide clues about the formation and evolution of these systems. Aims. In this study we present the discovery of TOI-2257 b (TIC 198485881), a long-period (35 d) sub-Neptune orbiting an M3 star at 57.8 pc. The incorporation of benzothiazole heterocycles into existing molecular frameworks has resulted in the production of a wide range of multifunctional molecular materials. However, this strategy has not yet been explored for an emerging class of boron difluoride dyes, derived from formazanate ligands, which often exhibit tuneable redox and optical properties. Here, we address this gap in the literature and describe the synthesis and characterization of a series of benzothiazole-substituted BF2 formazanates. Braided rivers can appear to be outliers in the range of river morphological types with unique dynamics and processes. Analysis shows that they have systematic structure, dynamics and response to external change that have properties relevant to the continuum of channel morphology. Rapid morphological change in real time creates a system in which bedload transport is strongly morphologically driven, which leads to thinking about bedload thresholds in terms of morphological change rather than grain scale dynamics. Braided rivers have multiple, unstable channels and ephemeral bars formed by intense bed-load transport, and active channel processes. They occur in a range of environments associated with high-energy, coarse bedded rivers with limited riparian vegetation, and relatively high sediment supply. The occurrence in some regions is strongly modified by human activity. Empirical and rational analysis of regime conditions and in-channel process mechanisms can predict occurrence of braiding, considering by the problem of gradual transitions between channel pattern types, transient flood influence and vegetation effects. In the first half of this thesis, we explore the polynomial-time hierarchy, emphasizing an intuitive perspective that associates decision problems in the polynomial hierarchy to combinatorial games with fixed numbers of turns. Background: Given the utility of the doubly labeled water (DLW) method for determination of energy expenditure, additional techniques for isotope analysis of the samples are welcome. Laser-based instruments are one such new analytical tool, but their accuracy and feasibility for DLW studies are grossly understudied.
Objectives: We assessed the accuracy of laser-based isotope ratio measurements as part of the DLW method for estimation of carbon dioxide production rate (rCO2) and total energy expenditure (TEE), in between-group comparison study designs.

Background
Nanopore sequencing technology has revolutionized the field of genome biology with its ability to generate extra-long reads that can resolve regions of the genome that were previously inaccessible to short-read sequencing platforms. Over 50% of the zebrafish genome consists of difficult to map, highly repetitive, low complexity elements that pose inherent problems for short-read sequencers and assemblers.
Results
We used long-read nanopore sequencing to generate a de novo assembly of the zebrafish genome and compared our assembly to the current reference genome, GRCz11. The new assembly identified 1697 novel insertions and deletions over one kilobase in length and placed …

The picture of Great Lakes Region (GLR) climate since deglaciation (about 14,000 years ago) is unclear, especially in terms of the hydroclimate (how dry, or rainy, or windy it has been). It is important to have information about past environments, and periods of past climate changes, to inform how we think about current/future climate changes, especially at regional scales. Understanding the climate of the past requires proxies for past environmental conditions, such as charcoal, pollen, or microfossils preserved in lake mud. We present Hubble Space Telescope Cosmic Origin Spectrograph (COS) UV line spectroscopy and integral-field unit (IFU) observations of the intragroup medium in Stephan's Quintet (SQ). SQ hosts a 30 kpc long shocked ridge triggered by a galaxy collision at a relative velocity of 1000 km s-1, where large amounts of molecular gas coexist with a hot, X-ray-emitting, plasma. COS spectroscopy at five positions sampling the diverse environments of the SQ intragroup medium reveals very broad (≈2000 km s-1) Lyα line emission with complex line shapes. Effort estimation is an important practice in agile software development. The agile community believes that developers’ estimates get more accurate over time due to the cumulative effect of learning from short and frequent feedback. However, there is no empirical evidence of an improvement in estimation accuracy over time, nor have prior studies examined effort estimation in different development activities, which are associated with substantial costs. We combine Lithium Niobate and Silicon Nitride using transfer printing and realize a micro-cavity with an experimentally measured intrinsic Q-factors of 50,000. We believe this is the first realization of such type of a micro-cavity.

Textile dyes in wastewater can be harmful pollutants when released into the environment without treatment. Biodegradation of textile dye effluents by different microbes, including fungi, has become popular as an alternative to physicochemical methods. The mangrove Avicennia marina is known to harbor endophytic fungi which have the potential to carry out dye degradation. Therefore, this study assessed the ability to decolorize synthetic dyes of endophytic fungi isolated from the leaves of A. marina. Of the nine fungal endophytes, Aspergillus niger, Syncephalastrum racemosum and Penicillium citrinum exhibited the highest mycelial growths in solid media, while all endophytes adsorbed Congo red. The Donnelly River is located in the south-west of Western Australia. An irrigation development has been proposed in the catchment that would extract water from the Donnelly River and store this in an off stream reservoir for irrigation use. Given the known issues related to non-stationarity and hydrological prediction, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) contracted CSIRO to review the hydrological model that was used to estimate future climate streamflow in the Donnelly River.
