The purpose of my study is to explore the contours of contemporary consumer privacy protections derived from legislation, regulations and publicly available company policies as a way to get a better understanding of how consumer data is protected. A few examples ranging from company-based consumer protection in the United States to data breaches in Japan will be explored and examined. Robust indoor positioning systems based on low energy bluetooth signals will service a wide range of applications. We present an example of a low energy bluetooth positioning system. First, the steps taken to locate the target with the bluetooth data will be reviewed. Next, we describe the algorithms of the set of android apps developed to utilize the bluetooth data for positioning. Similar to GPS, the algorithms use trilateration to approximate the target location by utilizing the corner devices running one of the apps. The microprocessor industry has historically been driven by the goal of shrinking devices. To create features small enough to fit on such devices, photolithography has conventionally been used in the micropatterning of noble metal surfaces. Photolithography is a complicated and expensive process that involves a cleanroom, metallization processes, and photoresist. While this investment makes sense for high revenue applications, a number of microelectronic devices do not require nanometer-scale patterned features. Examples of such applications include specific types of antennae, sensing electrodes, and photocatalysts. Photolithography for these devices is thus too costly in both money and energy. The growing field of stereolithography 3D printing has welcomed a new age ofmicrofluidic device fabrication techniques. When compared to previous planar fabrication techniques such as soft-lithography, stereolithography 3D printing offers highly automated procedures, reduced fabrication times, and greater complexity of device features. To date, the greatest tradeoff for 3D printing in microfluidic device fabrication is poorer resolution when compared to soft-lithography which can produce feature sizes on the nanometer scale. The poorer resolution of 3D printing limits the feasible size of features. Freshwater mussels are a diverse group of filter-feeding bivalves inhabiting freshwater systems; however, ~70% of U.S. species are imperiled. Many freshwater mussel species use fish hosts to complete juvenile transformation making host fish knowledge important for conservation efforts like captive propagation. While captive propagation programs have produced thousands of juveniles, survival post-release into natural systems is poorly studied. The human social and behavioral activities play significant roles in the spread of COVID-19. Social-distancing centered non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) are the best strategies to curb the spread of COVID-19 prior to an effective pharmaceutical or vaccine solution. This study investigates various social-distancing measures’ impact on the spread of COVID-19 using advanced global and novel local geospatial techniques. Social distancing measures are acquired through website analysis, document text analysis, and other big data extraction strategies. Rubik’s cubes are well-known for having several different patterns, or permutations, that can be made from them. Meanwhile, cubes generally display a wide variety of symmetries. Naturally, these ideas can be combined to form a notion of "symmetric Rubik's cube patterns." The goal of this paper is to find an algorithm that can produce all of the permutations that display symmetries.

A full review of the research conducted and published during my PhD studies in Computational and Data Sciences at Chapman University, under the advisement of Dr. Armen Gulian, are presented. Using the set of time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau (TDGL) equations with inclusion of the interference current and the non-equilibrium phonon term, we modeled the dynamics of superconductors in various theory revealing states and practical purposes. A review of the history and phenomenon of superconductivity, including modern applications, is introduced. We call them Knowledgeenriched Contextual Information Retrieval (KCIR) tasks and these tasks come in many different forms including query-based document retrieval, query answering and others. Lung cancer has the highest death rates among all types of cancer worldwide. Detection of lung cancer in its early stages significantly increases the survival rate. In this study, the aim is to improve the lung cancer detection performance of electronic noses (e-noses) with breath analysis by using two different types of gas sensor-based e-nose. The developed e-nose system consists of 14 quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensors and 8 metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) sensors. This paper proposes an innovative structure for DC-DC converters with high buck gain by using a lower number of elements. The converter provides highly efficient output power and an extended output voltage range. In addition, the distribution of output current between two inductors and the soft-switching capability of the power switches have made the converter suitable for applications that require high output current. The block Cimmino method is successfully used for the parallel solution of large linear systems of equations due to its amenability to parallel processing. Since the convergence rate of block Cimmino depends on the orthogonality between the row blocks, advanced partitioning methods are used for faster convergence. In this work, we propose a new partitioning method that is superior to the state-of-the-art partitioning method, GRIP, in several ways. Federated learning (FL) is a communication-efficient and privacy-preserving learning technique for collaborative training of machine learning models on vast amounts of data produced and stored locally on the distributed users. This paper investigates unbiased FL methods that achieve a similar convergence as state-of-the-art methods in scenarios with various constraints like an error-prone channel or intermittent energy availability. This paper aims to put forward an analytical solution for tuning parameters of a fractional order PI (FOPI) controller for stable, unstable, and integrating processes with time delay. Following this purpose, the analytical weighted geometrical center (AWGC) method has been extended to the design of fractional order PI controllers. To apply AWGC, the stability equations of the closed-loop system are written in terms of process and fractional order PI controller parameters. In this paper, we propose a distributed algorithm that determines effective Overlapping Basic Service Set/Preamble Detection (OBSS/PD) threshold levels in each WiFi6 device to maximize the total throughput by increasing the spectral efficiency. Within WiFi6 standard, OBSS/PD mechanism is introduced to increase the overall efficiency of WiFi networks by tuning the receiver sensitivity as well as the transmission power. In partnership with Dr. Jan Sojka, head of the Physics Department, a plan was created to make the telescope on top of the Engineering Lab building operational again for either staff, students, classes, or labs to use. The telescope was purchased through funds by Utah NASA Space Grant Consortium. This paper will contain basic information about how to operate the telescope and use its equipment. There is an online manual from Meade that is much longer but goes into much more detail about individual pieces and specific parts of the telescope.

Despite interest in the contribution of evapotranspiration (ET) of residential turfgrass lawns to household and municipal water budgets across the United States, the spatial and temporal variability of residential lawn ET across large scales is highly uncertain. We measured instantaneous ET (ETinst) of lawns in 79 residential yards in six metropolitan areas: Baltimore, Boston, Miami, Minneapolis-St. Paul (mesic climates), Los Angeles and Phoenix (arid climates). We are interested in quantitative information on the freeness of modules over a truncated polynomial ring when restricting to subalgebras generated by a linear form. After investigating the structure of the truncated polynomial ring, subalgebras generated by a linear form, and corresponding vector spaces, we construct a generic representation and discuss its connection to a certain affine space. We quantify the abundance of freeness of modules using a certain variety called the rank variety. For any possible dimension we construct a module whose rank variety has that dimension. Turbulence is still a mystery for human after more than one century’s development of fluid dynamics. Hairpin vortex formation is regarded as an essential process for a laminar flow transition to the turbulent flow. A new correct third generation vortex identification method, Liutex, was proposed in 2018, which can represent local rotation direction and reveal the local angular speed correctly. Using this powerful tool, the mechanism of hairpin vortex formation is re-examined. Models for survival data with a surviving fraction, known as cure rate models, play a vital role in survival analysis. Due to the improvement of intervening methodologies, some subjects are seen to be immune permanently. While cure rate models have been studied extensively in the recent literature with a standard assumption of right-censored data, in many applied settings, such as recidivism studies or medical studies where the event of interest is not immediately harmful, continuous observation of a subject is impracticable. Nonprobability samples are often used in place of probability samples because the former are less trouble and less expensive. Unfortunately, it is difficult to determine how well a sample represents population parameters when using nonprobability samples. Researchers attempt to mitigate the disadvantages of nonprobability sampling by performing post hoc corrections, but this adjustment may not successfully undo the effects of nonprobability sampling. To examine these effects, a Monte Carlo simulation was conducted to create a pseudo-population from which samples were drawn. The work presented herein provides quantitative data related to bacteria exposed in situ to two radionuclides relevant to nuclear sensing: plutonium-239 (239Pu) and iron-55 (55Fe). Originally motivated by the fundamental science underlying biosensing, liquid cultures of Pseudomonas putida and Escherichia coli were exposed to radionuclides over the course of 15-day experimental periods with the intent of gaining insight into the response of these bacteria. An essential component of characterizing or utilizing this response in a meaningful way is an understanding of the dose leading to that response. The near Earth space environment is a highly coupled system. The Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) interacts with the magnetosphere in myriad ways depend on the orientation of the IMF to the magnetosphere. The magnetic fields of the magnetosphere and the IMF trap plasma and carry the plasma with it as both magnetic fields evolve over time. This plasma can in turn interact with other plasmas, carried by other field lines, affecting the dynamics of the other population and the magnetic field lines of both populations. Based on Embodied Cognition theory, physical activities are an important manifestation of cognitive functions. As a result, they can be employed to both assess and train cognitive skills.
