Time Of Set And Ph In Silicic Acid Gels, E August Laurence Jun 1938

Time Of Set And Ph In Silicic Acid Gels, E August Laurence

Honors Theses

The purpose of this investigation was to determine the time of set and the hydrogen ion concentration of a silicic acid gel, basic in nature. A gel prepared from a mixture of 1.2511 normal sodium silicate solution and 1.0158 normal ammonium chloride was used for this purpose. The possibility of measuring the hydrogen ion concentration by the indicator method was used with considerable success by Prasad and Halliangadi (1). Previous work on this problem at Union by Marotta (2) pointed out the uncertainty of the glass electrode method due to the effect of the silicate on the electrode. The possibility …

Solution To Theory Of Equations For Teachers And Graduate Students, Arthur Lawrence Birkholz Jun 1938

Solution To Theory Of Equations For Teachers And Graduate Students, Arthur Lawrence Birkholz

Bachelors’ Theses

This thesis is intended primarily for teachers and graduate students who often find it necessary to review all or part of the basic theorems in the study of equations. Dickson's excellent book on the subject, "First Course in the Theory of Equations", is a recognized authority, so to facilitate a study of this book the writer has worked the problems suggested by Dickson, because these problems, more than any explanation could, illustrate and simplify the theorems on equations.

The user of this work-must bear in mind that there may be several ways of working many of the problems, and hence …

A Proposed Method For Classifying And Evaluating Soils On The Basis Of Productivity And Use Suitabilities, Arthur Anderson, A. P. Nelson, F. A. Hayes, I. D. Wood

Historical Research Bulletins of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station

It is the object of this paper to present a method for classifying and evaluating the soils as mapped in regular soil surveys on the basis of land types, which are here defined as areas having reasonably similar productivity and use suitabilities. The standards used to differentiate land types will vary according to the desired objectives, but any material difference in yield, or in practices necessary to maintain a desirable level of productivity will justify recognition of land types. The proposed procedure involves a more detailed study of the influence which soils, slope, erosion, and drainage have on specific crops …

A Mechanical Analysis Of The Oriskany Sandstone In Northwestern Virginia, Selma G. Hirsh

Honors Papers

The primary purpose of this paper is to present specific data as a means of explaining the sedimentation conditions at the time of deposition of the Oriskany Sandstone. The data were obtained through the use of laboratory methods upon specimens taken from several outcrops in the vicinity of Monterey, Virginia (see Darton's U.S.G.S. folio No. 51). In addition to the presentation of objective results, the author has attempted to make tentative interpretations of them, based primarily upon textural and shape analysis of the sediment. The writer realizes that the investigation is inadequate in many respects, due to lack of time …
