The Rocky Shiner (Notropis suttkusi) is a minnow species endemic to the Red River and its tributaries in southern Arkansas and Oklahoma. This species is petitioned for listing under the Endangered Species Act and is a species of greatest conservation need (SGCN) in Arkansas. However, there is little information for the species’ distribution, habitat use, and ecological niche, especially within the Arkansas portion of its range. Because of this data gap, my study provides an updated description of its distribution and habitat associations using conditional occupancy modeling and explores patterns of species co-occurrence within the community. The Ozark big-eared bat (Corynorhinus townsendii ingens; OBEB) is federally endangered in Arkansas, where it persists in a few small, geographically restricted populations within the Ozark National Forest. Although the region contains many caves that appear suitable for OBEB, expanded survey efforts are needed to locate additional roost sites for monitoring and protection. Effective conservation also requires a clear understanding of their distribution and diet. Traditional cave surveys can be disruptive and often miss cryptic species, and earlier diet studies based on manually sorting prey remains provided only coarse taxonomic resolution and overlooked soft‑bodied insects. This thesis examines the disproportionate burden of lead exposure carried by low income, POC communities. The systemic nature of this problem is a symptom of a longstanding legacy of environmental injustice in the United States. Decades of federal neglect are reflected in the higher statistics of lead exposure and poisoning in predominantly black communities. While it is understood that lead exposure poses a serious threat to physical health and early cognitive development, there is a discouraging lack of urgency to remove the toxin from non-wealthy communities. This paper addresses the issue of textile waste dumping, specifically how secondhand clothing exports from the Global North create environmental, social, and public health burdens in the Global South. The study focuses on case studies in Chile’s Atacama Desert, where shipments of used clothing overwhelm local waste infrastructures and worsen patterns of environmental injustice. This study investigates the rising solid waste management (SWM) dilemma in Greater Khartoum City (GKC), a critical environmental and public health issue caused by fast urbanization and inadequate infrastructure, with historical linkages to Sudan's colonial and postcolonial growth. Chapter 1 describes the current problem using quantitative and qualitative data, demonstrating that GKC produces approximately 3,340 tons of waste each day, with 56% organic matter, 8% plastics, and 16% paper. Collection efficiency remains severely poor, at 31.5%. Informal recyclers known as Nakasha or Barkata collect approximately 7% of total waste, supporting roughly 3,900 people, whereas filthy open dumps and unsorted medical …

As the community and businesses grow, traditional networking methods become increasingly difficult to maintain. General marketplaces lack the trust framework shared by Adventists, and faith-based directories are often static or outdated without booking capabilities. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore how teachers in rural Arkansas perceive the impact of staffing shortages on their instructional roles, workload, and professional well-being. Grain size analysis (GSA) is widely used in sedimentology and paleoenvironmental reconstruction; however, its utility can be constrained by the presence of organic matter. This study assesses the impact of organic matter through the analysis and comparison of untreated and hydrogen peroxide-treated samples. Organic-rich samples from the Thousand Acre marsh in Georgetown, SC, were subjected to three treatments: untreated, standard, and enhanced. Grain size distribution was measured for each of these treatments using a CILAS 1190 laser diffraction particle analyzer, and organic matter was quantified by loss-on-ignition (LOI). Running gait analysis plays a critical role in injury prevention and performance optimization, however, existing approaches often rely on specialized laboratory equipment or wearable sensors with limited interpretability. Recent advances in computer vision, particularly 2D human pose estimation, enable markerless motion analysis from standard video. However, progress remains constrained by the lack of publicly available datasets designed for running form analysis.

This thesis will examine how artificial intelligence (AI) regulation and development differ across political regime types, arguing that governance outcomes are fundamentally shaped by institutional political structures. This thesis will draw on comparative frameworks analyzing democratic and authoritarian systems. This thesis will also include case studies of the European Union, the United States of America, China, and Russia. The study finds that democratic regimes tend to emphasize transparency, accountability, and rights-based regulation of AI. NutriLog is a web-based fitness and nutrition tracking application designed to help users record, organize, and interpret personal health data in one centralized platform. Many existing applications focus primarily on either nutrition tracking or exercise performance, which can make it difficult for users to understand how food intake and physical activity interact. NutriLog addresses this gap by combining food logging, exercise logging, calorie adjustment, nutrition summaries, and historical tracking into a single dashboard-based interface.

In a connected graph with weights on the edges, a minimum-weight spanning tree can be obtained by repeatedly choosing minimum-weight edges while avoiding choosing the edge set of any cycle. This algorithm is known as Kruskal’s Algorithm, although it was first introduced by Boruvka in 1926. Prim introduced an alternative algorithm in which, at each step, the chosen set of edges forms a connected graph. Both of these algorithms make locally optimal choices that eventually yield a global optimum. This thesis considers how these algorithms can be extended to matroids. Providing individualized feedback to math students is a resource-intensive bottleneck in STEM education. We present Mentir-AI, a tool designed to elevate teacher capacity by generating high-quality mathematical feedback using the Mathforum's "Problem of the Week" archive. By analyzing a corpus of nearly one million interactions, we compare the efficacy of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and Fine-Tuning (FT) architectures. This study details the development of an automated grading pipeline, the evolution of a multi-component system prompt, and the implementation of an automated mentor grading system in AI-led evaluation. Friedel–Crafts Addition Of 3-Alkylated Indoles To Aldehydes: 2-Hydroxyalkylation Promoted By Trimethylsilyl Trifluoromethanesulfonate, Eric Zhou, Helen Xia, C. Wade Downey

In the presence of trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate (TMSOTf) and 2,6-lutidine, 3-alkylated indoles undergo Friedel–Crafts silyloxyalkylation when treated with nonenolizable aldehydes. The reaction is general across a wide range of aromatic aldehydes and tolerates a variety of N-alkylated indoles. Deprotection of the silylated product occurs under standard conditions, and in certain cases the initial TMS-protected product can be isolated in high yield.

Enhanced matrix assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (eMALDI MS) refers to MALDI MS in which the efficacy of desorption and ionization is enhanced by heat, volatile species, or both, generated from chemical decomposition of additives in the sample of analyte under MALDI conditions. MALDI MS has been widely used for oligonucleotide (ON) analysis. However, two challenges, limited ability to analyze long ONs and low tolerance to trace salts, significantly restrict its applications. During this process suppressive molecules may be added to control help the process. This project focuses on synthesizing an alpha-halogenated glyoxime to test whether the compound is a more effective suppressant in comparison to regular glyoximes. More specifically the target chemical is called bromo-dimethylglyoxime which is created in a two-stage reaction. The starting material, diacetyl monoxime, is brominated at the alpha carbon position. This study investigates the use of hormonal seed priming with Methyl Jasmonate (MeJA) and Methyl Salicylic Acid (MeSA) as a sustainable alternative to synthetic pesticides. By inducing Systemic Acquired Resistance (SAR) and Induced Systemic Resistance (ISR), these treatments aim to prepare plant defenses for rapid response to future herbivory with reduced reliance on chemical applications. The research specifically explores the growth-defense trade off, evaluating how various hormonal concentrations impact both pest resistance and seedling vigor.
