Oxygen Enriched Atmosphere Roasting, Clarence Wells Jr Apr 1948

Oxygen Enriched Atmosphere Roasting, Clarence Wells Jr

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The possible benefits of oxygen enriched atmosphere roasting have been known to metallurgists for many years, but only since the development of equipment and processes to produce cheap oxygen in very large amounts has much serious consideration been given this matter.

Stabilization Studies On Soil-Cement Mixtures For Experimental Lining-Logan Experimental Section--Logan, Utah, V.S. Meissner Apr 1948

Stabilization Studies On Soil-Cement Mixtures For Experimental Lining-Logan Experimental Section--Logan, Utah, V.S. Meissner

Elusive Documents

A memorandum of Agreement has been written between the Soil Conservation Service and the Bureau of Reclamation, relative to the experimental installation of test section of soil-cement and asphaltic canal lining to determine their durability and permeability. These test sections are to be installed at the Experimental Station, Logan, Utah. The Bureau of Reclamation requests two types of soil for the soil-cement studies, a fine sandy soil, poorly graded with little or no silt (Classification Symbol SP) and a find sandy soil with excess silt (Classification Symbol SF-Silty). The gradation limits for these two soil types are shown of Figures …

Geological Studies In Utah, J. Stewart Williams Apr 1948

Geological Studies In Utah, J. Stewart Williams

Faculty Honor Lectures

Utah's thousands of square miles of mountains, plateaus, and i ~ desert basins exhibit a wide variety of geological features and offer the student of geology an endless series of challenging problems. The solution of some of these problems began nearly one hundred years ago with the surveys of the United States territories; the work continues today at a greatly accelerated rate with scores of professional geologists and advanced students in the field each summer. The writer and students under his direction have made some contributions to the solution of a few of these problems in the twelve years that …

Geology Of Upper Bear Gulch And Dry Boulder Creek Area Madison County, Montana, Norman King

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Potential gold mines lie high among the rugged peaks of the Tobacco Root Mountains of southwestern Montana. This is a region where little geologic work has been done, though extensive mine operations have been carried on, and valuable ore has been shipped.

A Preliminary Study Of The Benefication Of Montana Kyanite, Donald Paul Mccarthy

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

This investigation is a preliminary study of the beneficiation of Montana kyanite, and while preliminary in degree the information gained may serve as a guide for the eventual exploitation of this Montana resource.

Foraminifera From Pleistocene Beds Near San Pedro, California, R. F. Mitchell Apr 1948

Foraminifera From Pleistocene Beds Near San Pedro, California, R. F. Mitchell

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The age of rocks found in drill cores, and consequently the depths to possible oil-bearing formations has in many localities been determined by micro-paleontologic studies during the past three decades. Of the different micro-fossils used in this work, foraminifera have been studied most, are the best described, and hence, by far the most helpful.

United States Patent: Antenna Strain Insulator, Robert Katz Jan 1948

United States Patent: Antenna Strain Insulator, Robert Katz

Robert Katz Publications

The invention to be hereinafter described relates to insulators and more particularly to strain insulators for wire antennas.

It has long been common practice to use with antenna wires on airplanes the well known porcelain or ceramic insulator, the wire ends being looped through or about the insulator, and brought back and twisted about the wire to tie, anchor or securely attach or fasten the insulator to the antenna. The produces small wire-end surfaces or other small wire surfaces, where the wires are would or twisted, which under certain atmospheric conditions are favorable to corona discharges. When the corona discharge …

Interim Report On The Florida Crawfish Investigation., Marine Laboratory Jan 1948

Interim Report On The Florida Crawfish Investigation., Marine Laboratory

RSMAS Technical Reports

During 1944-1945 the volume of lobsters landed in the spiny lobsters industry decreased to about one half of the 1943 volume and to little more than one third of the amound landed during 1941, which was the year of peak production. Since it was suggested that the cause of this might be overfishing, the University of Miami Marine Laboratory was invited to carry out an investigation in co-operation with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida State Board of Conservation.

Test 400: Intercontinental Model C-26, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab Jan 1948

Test 400: Intercontinental Model C-26, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary.

All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University.

Unless otherwise noted, each tractor was apparently in good condition at the end of the testing …

A Textural Analysis Of The Bedford Shale Of Lorain County, Ohio, Troy James Laswell

Honors Papers

Throughout the course of the school year 1947-48 the writer has collected specimens of the Bedford shale from various localities within Lorain County, Ohio. Textural and mineralogical analyses have been made of the specimens in order to determine the textural and petrologic variation between the two facies, and whether each of the facies was deposited under similar conditions.

Progress Report On The Ground-Water Hydrology Of The Republican And Frenchman River Valleys, With A Section On The Chemical Quality Of The Ground Water, Herbert A. Waite, Herbert A. Swenson

United States Geological Survey: Water Reports and Publications

Abstract for first section

This report is based on current investigations of the groundwater resources of the Republican and Frenchman River Valleys in Nebraska and includes data gathered to December 31, 1947. These studies vere started late in 1945 as a part of a program of groundwater investigations now in progress in connection with the Missouri River basin development plan. Studies to date have consisted principally of periodic observations of water table fluctuations at selected observation wells, of collection of samples of groundwater for chemical analysis, and of collection of data concerning the municipal water supplies in the valley. A Geological Report On South Boulder Canyon And The Mayflower Mine-Renova Areas, B. R. Alto

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The purpose of this report is to serve as a written explanation of the accompanying geologic maps and columnar section. Each year the senior students in mining and geological engineering at the Montana School of Mines spend two weeks in the field where they learn the fundamentals of geologic mapping and related field studies. An additional week is spent at the school where maps are assembled, prints made, end other work is done in preparation for the writing of the report.

Geology 63: Geological Report Of Senior Field Trip, Thomas L. Wilson

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The field work was conducted in areas adjacent to Whitehall, Montana, as has been the custom for the past several years. Instruction in the proper use of the telescopic and open sight alidades, and the Brunton compass for surveying geologic features was given. Advantages of pacing and speedometer mapping were pointed out and used.

A New Sciurid Of Blancan Age From Kansas And Nebraska, Claude W. Hibbard

Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)

The collecting of vetebrate fossils from deposits of Blancan age in Kansas, Nebraska, and Texas during the past twelve years has revealed many interesting forms. Some species have been found to have wide geographic distribution. A large sciurid related to the woodchucks has been recognized from both Kansas and Nebraska and is here described as a new genus and species.
