Control-Flow Analysis (CFA) is a static technique for understanding the execution of higher-order programs without running the code. CFA aids in identifying bugs, assisting program comprehension, and exposing optimization opportunities. Constructing a CFA typically begins with an idealized evaluator--such as an abstract machine or interpreter--and proceeds by approximating components of evaluation to ensure that: (a) the analysis is sound (representing all possible behaviors), and (b) the analysis is guaranteed to terminate (finitely representable). Terrestrial Earth systems sequester an estimated 30% of annual anthropogenic CO2 emissions. The largest share is stored in global soils which collectively store more than 3 times the amount of carbon as the atmosphere. Floodplains and river systems, while covering only 5–8% of land area, store 20–30% of the global soil organic carbon (SOC), yet, the rate at which floodplains sequester carbon remains highly uncertain. Here I constrain floodplain carbon sequestration rates for a model northeastern river that has not been impacted by development or significant human activity. Wave-particle interactions play a central role in transferring energy between different particle populations in space plasmas. In the radiation belts, these interactions govern the acceleration, scattering, and loss of energetic particles to Earth’s atmosphere. Understanding the drivers of these energetic particle losses is essential, as these particles can collide with satellites and contribute to ozone depletion as they enter the atmosphere. Developing a clearer picture of these processes will improve our ability to predict radiation belt variability and quantify the impacts, ultimately allowing us to mitigate the adverse effects.

Measurements of Saturn’s radio and magnetic periodicities suggest that atmospheric forcing influences the magnetosphere-coupled current systems on the planet (Gurnett et al., 2007). A proposed mechanism for this phenomenon is that thermospheric heating drives strong neutral winds which drag ionospheric plasma and generate currents that close along magnetic field lines (Smith, 2011). However, the local current-closure physics of these processes is di!cult to isolate in global Saturn models even if they suggest neutral wind forcing is a plausible driver for these changes (Jia et al., 2012). Tracing The Seam: Machine Learning Models Of The Open–Closed Boundary From Upstream Solar Wind Drivers, Arnav Singh

The open–closed magnetic field line boundary (OCB) demarcates closed terrestrial field lines from those threaded into the interplanetary medium, and its latitude encodes the instantaneous balance between dayside and nightside reconnection that governs much of the high-latitude space-weather hazard. No single instrument resolves it globally in real time. In this thesis I close that gap empirically. Pairing nearly three decades (1983–2012) of Defense Meteorological Satellite Program particle-precipitation boundaries with the 5-minute OMNI solar-wind and geomagnetic-index record yields ∼9.1×105 causally matched crossings, partitioned into six hemispheric/MLT sectors after a |MLat| ≥ 40° physics cut.

This study describes the development of a Cyber-Health Belief Model (CHBM). The health belief model (HBM) is a message strategy that is widely and successfully used in public health research [1] and has been extended into phish training. Most phish training programs assume end users are victimized because they have insufficient information to defend themselves. While near-term training effectiveness has shown to be effective, evidence for sustained behavioral change is thin [4]-[7]. Fiber laser amplifier (FLA) models are often implemented without rigorous mathematical justification or thorough numerical validation. Without a proper theoretical basis for assumptions and approximations, or a technical analysis of model performance, there is significant uncertainty about the limitations of any given reduced model and its suitability for an application. This research aims to address the lack of comprehensive assessment of FLA models by directly comparing distinct models and recommending a mathematical alternative to replace heuristic model-reduction techniques. In the orthogonal skyline range counting (resp. reporting) problem we store the set of points P in a data structure so that for any query range Q the number of points (resp. the list of all points) on the skyline of Q∩P can be found efficiently. In this paper we study two-dimensional range counting and reporting problems in the case when the query range is bounded on three sides. We describe a linear-space data structure that answers top-open three-sided skyline counting queries in O(log log N) time, where N is the number of points stored in the data structure. We …

Parents are critical influences on children's computer science (CS) pathways, yet families’ involvement remains understudied. Guided by parental involvement and community cultural wealth frameworks, this work-in-progress examined survey data from 53 parents representing families historically underrepresented in computing within California (71% women; 54% Hispanic/Latin/x/e). Findings revealed that CS school curriculum familiarity and awareness of CS community events significantly predicted parent-child CS conversations, while parent CS confidence and attitudes did not, suggesting that curriculum transparency and community connections can promote equitable involvement. Future work will integrate qualitative interviews to examine how families draw upon their cultural wealth.

Hidden Curriculum (HC) is the set of essential knowledge, skills, and norms students are expected to know, but never explicitly taught. HC is disproportionately experienced across identities and communities. In computing education, most research addresses immediately identifiable HC within the researcher's context. While such work is important, without proper HC descriptive studies, we could miss more subtle HC that affects student success. This work presents results from interviews with undergraduate computing faculty, students, and peer mentors on their HC experiences. The results demonstrate several categories of HC including development tools, professional skills, institutional navigation, social well-being, and physical well-being. These …

Extreme heat is an increasing public health and environmental threat shaped by both physical and social factors. This study assesses the vulnerability of mobile homes and their residents at three mobile home parks in Boulder, Colorado. We examined indoor temperature, housing conditions, and social and personal risk factors of the households. We monitored indoor and outdoor temperatures using 27 indoor and 5 outdoor temperature data loggers, comparing mobile homes with air conditioning, swamp coolers, and passive cooling designs. The goal of this project is to reconstruct the deglaciation and post-glacial environmental conditions of northern Vermont that occurred during the transition from the Pleistocene to the Holocene, ~15,000 to 11,000 years ago. This transition marks a major climatic shift, from a glacial period to an interglacial period, and regionally involved the retreat of the Laurentide Ice Sheet (LIS). The retreat of the LIS influenced the surficial geology of North America, exposing the Earth’s surface, leaving glacial deposits, and carving out proglacial lakes. The timing of ice retreat in the region provides information about past climate conditions, which may inform …

The New World Mining District (NWMD), located two miles northeast of Cooke City, Montana, is host to a series of epithermal sills, dikes, and plutons, the intrusion of which is responsible for significant Au-Ag-Cu mineralization. These intrusive bodies were emplaced in the Eocene, potentially contemporaneously with the Heart Mountain Detachment - Earth’s largest subaerial landslide, and have been proposed as a potential trigger for the event. The pre-emplacement crys- tallization conditions for the porphyritic dikes in the region, however, remain unknown and have previously been limited to surface observations. This study presents a systematic review of metaheuristic optimization techniques applied to healthcare problems using cancer datasets. A structured search of recently published peer-reviewed literature was carried out, focusing on five major application areas: feature selection, classification, image segmentation, hyperparameter tuning, and early detection. For each eligible study, the optimization strategy, dataset characteristics, data modality, learning model, validation protocol, and reported outcomes are provided. The reviewed works were organized into a taxonomy of original, modified, and hybridized algorithms, and a descriptive analysis was performed to assess algorithm prevalence and dataset utilization. Synthetic porphyrins have been crucial as models for heme units and other biological porphyrins, as well as components of advanced materials and catalysts. Much of the work on synthetic porphyrins has focused on the meso-substituted 5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP) or the pyrrole-substituted 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octaethylporphyrin (OEP). In this report, we present a comprehensive spectroscopic, electrochemical, and computational study of free-base, zinc(II), and copper(II) 5,10,15,20-tetrapentylporphyrin (TPeP). TPeP can be prepared via a two-step, one-flask reaction of pyrrole and hexanal mediated by Montmorillonite K10, followed by oxidation with 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ) in yields of around 40%. Abstract: This paper offers a conceptual discussion of how mindfulness, understood as present moment awareness and deliberate attention regulation, can support cybersecurity professionals. Drawing on a narrative synthesis of workplace mindfulness, burnout, and high pressure decision making literature, we map plausible self regulation mechanisms to typical cyber defense tasks. Rather than presenting new empirical data, we develop an explanatory framework linking attention, reactivity, and recovery to decision quality, team communication, and adherence to incident playbooks. The Domain Name System (DNS) remains a critical attack vector exploited by adversaries for command-and-control (C2) communication, data exfiltration, and phishing campaigns. DNS Response Policy Zones (RPZ) have emerged as an effective defense mechanism by enabling the redirection or blocking of queries to malicious domains. However, current RPZ implementations encounter significant challenges related to scalability, adaptability, and user awareness, often resulting in static policies, delayed updates, and a high incidence of false positives. Nanotechnology is emerging as a promising innovation in sustainable architectural design, although its adoption remains slow. Research highlights the advantages of incorporating nanotechnologies in architecture, including improved material performance, enhanced thermal efficiency, reduced energy consumption, improved durability, and progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These advantages make nanomaterials a promising solution for sustainable building design, particularly in hot-climate regions where energy consumption and carbon emissions associated with conventional building design practices remain major concerns.

The thermal state of the active layer and analysis of meteorological conditions provides a greater understanding of where active layer detachment slides can occur. This study provides an overview of the active layer ground thermal regime for 2024 and 2025 in Longyeardalen, Svalbard, where the largest settlement in Svalbard, Longyearbyen is located. Ground temperature data was extracted from 8 boreholes in Longyeardalen and meteorological data was extracted from one weather station in central Longyeardalen. Artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) in Tatelu Village, North Sulawesi, has shifted from mercury amalgamation to cyanide leaching. However, gold recovery remains inefficient, requiring process optimization. This study uses multiple linear regression analysis to evaluate the influence of grain size and slurry density on gold dissolution. The results indicate that grain size plays a dominant role in leaching efficiency, while slurry density, pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), and cyanide concentration have statistically insignificant effects (p > 0.05). The widespread adoption of Portland Limestone Cement (PLC) in U.S. concrete production has necessitated research into commercially available supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) for formulating high-performance, low-carbon blended binders with PLC. This study investigated the influence of biochar (BC) in biochar-PLC composites (CBCs), focusing on hydration kinetics, microstructure, rheology, pore-solution chemistry, compressive strength, and the underlying mechanisms. Biochar was produced via downdraft gasification at 850 °C and incorporated into PLC at 5, 7, and 10% substitution by mass. Prior to the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling, access to safe legal abortions was limited and often restricted along racial, economic, and geographic lines. Nearly fifty years later, women’s health policy evolved again following the 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision overturning Roe v. Wade. This court ruling decimated federal protections of abortion. This paper presents the research that the 2022 Dobbs judicial decision may contribute to and exacerbate rape-related PTSD on 1 out of 20 American who are unable to access a safe abortion after a rape-related pregnancy. Microbial locomotion is well understood when cells use either a small number of flagella or a high density of cilia. However many microbes live in an intermediate regime where coordination strategies such as flagellar bundles and metachronal waves are not possible. The mechanisms by which such organisms coordinate the motion of their swimming appendages are not well understood. Here, we study the only known obligatory multicellular bacterium, which are of the genus Magnetoglobus.
