Ring galaxies are specific types of interacting galaxies in which a smaller galaxy has passed through the center of the disk of another larger galaxy. The intrusion of the smaller galaxy causes the structure of the larger galaxy to compress as the smaller galaxy falls through, and to recoil back after the smaller galaxy passes through, hence the ring-like shape. In our research, we studied the star-forming regions of a sample of ring galaxies and compared to those of other interacting galaxies and normal galaxies. Microdialysis sampling uses a semi-permeable membrane to allow solute collection by diffusion. When used in conjunction with other instruments, analytes in question can be quantified. Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs) are enzymes involved in numerous biological processes where they serve the role of degrading extracellular matrix. Eugene Wigner used the Poincare group to induce representations from the fundamental internal space-time symmetries of (special) relativistic quantum particles. Wigner’s students spent considerable amount of time translating passages of this paper into more detailed and accessible papers and books. In 1975, R. It is well-known that the eigenvalues of a Hermitian matrix in a given interval can be approximated within a predefined error tolerance using the bisection method as a direct application of the Sylvester's Law of Inertia. In this thesis, we will develop a bisection method for the hyperbolic quadratic eigenvalue problem (HQEP) which is guaranteed to have 2n real eigenvalues for a problem of size n. Multimedia codestreams distributed through open and insecure networks are subjected to attacks such as malicious content tampering and unauthorized accesses. This dissertation first addresses the issue of authentication as a mean to integrity - protect multimedia codestreams against malicious tampering. Two cryptographic-based authentication schemes are proposed to authenticate generic scalable video codestreams with a multi-layered structure. The first scheme combines the salient features of hash-chaining and double error correction coding to achieve loss resiliency with low communication overhead and proxy-transparency. We collected samples from seven Arkansas streams during the months of August 2014 and February 2015 with the objective of determining possible relationships between nutrients, periphyton abundance and benthic macroinvertebrates. We hypothesized that periphyton would be positively associated with nutrients, and that increases in periphyton biomass would increase the abundance and diversity of benthic scraper families. Samples were collected from three transects at each site. The periphyton was analyzed for carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and ash free dry mass and Chl-a content. Inorganic single crystal and organic (plastic and liquid) scintillators are commonly used for radiation detection. Inorganic single crystals are efficient and have better energy resolution compared to organic scintillators. However, inorganic single crystals are difficult to grow in large size and hence expensive. On the other hand, fast decay time and ease of fabrication makes organic scintillators attractive for many applications. The ruthenium polypyridyl complexes [(phen)2Ru(tatpp)Ru(phen)2]4+ ([P]4+) and [(phen)2Ru(tatpp)]2+ ([MP]2+) are promising anti-tumor agents that arrest H358 NSCLC tumor growth in mouse tumor models and show cytotoxicity in the low micromolar range towards a number of platinum sensitive NSCLC lines (H358, H226, HOP62, H2087). Dose escalation toxicity studies in mice reveal that [MP]2+ and [P]4+ are tolerated without any short term side effects at levels up to 40 mg drug/kg mouse and >160 mg drug/kg mouse respectively with no obvious side effects, when administered as IP injection. Our group is primarily interested in the total synthesis of oroidin-based pyrrole-imidazole-containing marine sponge-derived alkaloids. These pyrrole-imidazole natural products are a growing class of alkaloids with exotic connectivity, unique topologies, and high nitrogen content. Presence of 2-aminoimidazole and pyrrolecarboxamide fragments in the structure represent their signature features. Due to their structural diversity and biological activity, many groups are interested in the total synthesis of these natural products. Analysis of the mineral constituents of friable surface deposits from the Burkina Faso and Niger regions, North Africa, was undertaken by computer controlled scanning electron microscopy (CCSEM) to try and identify variations in mineralogical composition which could be used for source attribution to distinguish windblown material from different contributing source areas. A total of 16 friable surface samples were collected for CCSEM analysis. These samples were from multiple geographic locations within the Burkina Faso region. A quantum $\mathbb{P}^3$ is a noncommutative analogue of a polynomial ring on four variables, and, herein, it is taken to be a regular algebra of global dimension four. It is well known that if a generic quadratic quantum $\mathbb{P}^3$ exists, then it has a point scheme consisting of exactly twenty distinct points and a one-dimensional line scheme.
