This project addresses critical gaps in AI-assisted writing by developing the first systematic framework that integrates classical rhetorical principles with modern large language model capabilities for authorial voice development. The primary focus is on creating reliable methods for stylistic control through strategic AI collaboration rather than ad hoc prompting approaches. The project develops a comprehensive coding system for analyzing prose style, creates ten distinct authorial personas, and establishes a dual curation methodology that structures both stylistic analysis and content preparation. Diaryliodonium-amine complexes are proposed as key intermediates in metal-free C-N coupling reactions. Herein, H NMR titration is used to quantify association constants () between diaryliodonium triflates and synthetically relevant amines from which the amine Lewis basicity (LB) parameter is calculated. Compared to anionic Lewis bases, distinct solvent effects are observed.

An electron‐deficient tetranitroazacalixarene is shown to undergo reversible cyanide capture via nucleophilic aromatic substitution, yielding an unprecedented class of metastable dianionic macrocycle incorporating two Meisenheimer units, fully characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction, NMR, and electronic absorption spectroscopies. Acting as a chemical fuel, cyanide transiently drives the formation of this adduct, which can spontaneously regenerate the parent macrocycle under mild conditions, representing a rare demonstration of metastability in a Meisenheimer complex. The dynamic behavior of this system, reminiscent of out‐of‐equilibrium assemblies, is finely tunable through macrocycle concentration, counterion nature, solvent, and temperature. In water-scarce regions, natural ecosystems and agriculture increasingly compete for limited water resources, intensifying stress during periods of drought. To assess these competing demands, we applied a modified PT-JPL model that incorporates the thermal inertial approach as a substitute for relative humidity (RH) in estimating soil evaporation—a method that significantly outperforms the original PT-JPL formulation in Mediterranean semi-arid irrigated areas. This remote sensing framework enabled us to quantify spatial and temporal variations in water use across both natural and agricultural systems within the UNESCO World Heritage site of Doñana. The Earth relies on the Sun's energy, but at times this energy can be overwhelming; the Sun expels plasma which, were it not for our humble magnetic field, would erode our atmosphere (Mars, c. 4 Ga). The protective interaction Earth has with the solar wind results in spectacular auroral displays---one such auroral form is discussed in this thesis: quiet discrete auroral arcs.
Such arcs have long been studied; they are abundant, have usable symmetries, and they can predict magnetic substorms that wreak havoc in our magnetosphere. The auroral emissions, albeit beautiful, are however only the visible end of a self-consistent …

Fraktur is an American folk art developed by German-speaking communities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina during the 18th and 19th centuries. This art form features ornate calligraphy combined with illustrations of flowers, birds, angels, and geometric border designs. It was often used for birth and baptismal certificates, religious texts, educational materials, and public notices. Fraktur commonly incorporates frieze pattern designs. Artistic designs based on frieze patterns appear across a wide range of cultures, and research has shown that cultural groups tend to favor certain types of frieze patterns. Abstract There arenindependent identically distributed (i.i.d.) uniform random variables defined as ξ1,ξ2,…,ξn, valued in interval [0,k](k>0), and there is a constantmvalued in interval (0,kn). We study the distribution of the product of these random numbers and prove a formula calculating Pr(∏i=1nξi≤m). Interestingly, we find that the result is exactly the sum of the firstnterms in the Taylor series expansion of the function exp(x) with x=nlnk-lnm. Through considering the corresponding probability density function, we make an extension of the formula calculating Pr(∏i=1nξi≤m) to any positive realn, and the extended formula can be written in a …

Lewy Body Disease (LBD) is a common yet understudied form of dementia that imposes a significant burden on public health. It shares clinical similarities with Alzheimer’s disease (AD), as both progress through stages of normal cognition, mild cognitive impairment, and dementia. A major obstacle in LBD diagnosis is data scarcity, which limits the effectiveness of deep learning. In contrast, AD datasets are more abundant, offering potential for knowledge transfer. However, LBD and AD data are typically collected from different sites using different machines and protocols, resulting in a distinct domain shift. Over the last decade, network applications have grown exponentially, demanding high-speed interconnects. Unfortunately, chip manufacturers are approaching the upper limits of silicon-based computing with slow improvements in computational performance and energy efficiency. This trend has forced the industry to shift paradigms, moving from monolithic architectures to heterogeneous, domain-specific designs. Moreover, the ever-evolving threats compromise digital services and demand more scalable and flexible solutions to ensure service continuity in production networks. Sign languages are the primary languages of the deaf community as well as hearing individuals who are unable to speak, which engage the visual-manual modality to convey meanings. In recent years, there has been an explosive growth of sign language videos available from video streaming and social media service platforms. Given the size of these corpora, sign language users often face significant challenges in effectively acquiring the information they need. Therefore, we propose a novel deep learning architecture, namely Graph Traverse Reference Network (GTRN), allowing visual signing queries to retrieve relevant sign language videos (documents) from a large corpus. This paper models fair workweek regulations that require employers to provide employees with (1) schedule predictability via advance notice of their work schedule and premium payments for short-notice changes, and (2) access to hours meaning they must offer open hours to existing employees before hiring new workers. We develop a theoretical model of employers’ responses to these provisions and their implications for employment. Guided by the model, we estimate the effects of recently-adopted fair workweek regulation in New York City’s fast-food sector using a synthetic difference-in-differences design. We find a null employment effect.

This fact sheet presents 2022 data on the industrial chemistry workforce in five Mountain West states: Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. The American Chemistry Council’s (ACC’s) report, “2023 Guide to the Business of Chemistry,” offers insights into the chemistry industry’s role in the U.S. economy. This fact sheet focuses on 2022 state-level data related to the number of chemistry establishments, the number of individuals employed in the industry, and the average wages and salaries of industry workers in the Mountain West.

System identification is the process of determining mathematical models that describe the dynamics of a system from data. Dynamic Mode Decomposition (DMD) and Sparse Identification of Nonlinear Dynamical Systems (SINDy) are two distinct approaches used for this purpose.
DMD identifies dominant spatiotemporal modes and eigenvalues that describe the evo lution of a system. It assumes a near-linear representation of dynamics and is closely linked to the Koopman operator, making it ideal for analyzing fluid flows, oscillatory systems, and modal structures. Throughout history, meteors have been regarded as fascinating and portentous events, with bygone astronomers diligently recording their occurrence. The research presented herein continues in this tradition, using modern instruments, software, and data reduction techniques to study long-lasting meteor trail phenomena, specifically in the optical (persistent trains; PTs) and radio (meteor radio afterglows; MRAs) regimes. The overarching goal was to investigate the similarities between these phenomena, which began with the creation of a PT catalog. Many of the prior assumptions about the nature of PTs were found to be unsubstantiated, and several new behaviors were uncovered. This includes the discovery of …

In multi-messenger astrophysics, signals of multiple types (e.g., gravitational waves, neutrinos, electromagnetic waves) are combined in an effort to learn more about the observed phenomena of interest. The Advanced Particle-astrophyics Telescope (APT) is a mission concept for a space-borne instrument that detects gammaray bursts (GRBs) omnidirectionally, facilitating multi-messenger observations by identifying and localizing celestial events of interest. Here, we describe the on-instrument computations for APT and its Antarctic Demonstrator (ADAPT) as well as techniques for follow-up observations of transient events.

Hellbenders are prehistoric salamanders that have thrived in cold rivers since before the continents divided. Once found throughout Appalachian watersheds, due to exploitation and habitat degradation only a few dozen healthy populations survive. Monstrous yet fascinating, hellbenders were often reviled historically, but in recent decades they have gained iconic status and are now celebrated as charismatic indicators for clean rivers. Hellbenders are symbols of the wild because of their ancient history, elusive nature, and contribution to ecosystem resilience. The same forces that drove the decline of these amphibian sentinels have sacrificed public health in Appalachia. Their demise echoes the struggle …

Remote sensing-derived evapotranspiration (RSET) products capture the spatiotemporal variations of evapotranspiration (ET) from field to basin scales with unprecedented details. However, their accuracy varies across RSET estimation methods and diverse hydroclimate regions. While ET modeling efforts to account for biophysical processes and controlling parameters have made good progress in recent years, a parallel approach of integrating in-situ ET with RSET could reduce biases in RSET products. The Messinian Salinity Crisis (MSC) generated extensive anoxic sediments under the evaporitic deposits in marginal Mediterranean basins. In an interdisciplinary approach combining field work with multiple laboratory techniques, the oil source rock potential and biomarkers of pre-evaporitic Messinian sediments from the Caltanissetta Basin (Sicily) were evaluated using Rock-Eval pyrolysis, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, isotopic analysis and optical and electron microscopy. Organic-rich samples from the 45 m Serra Pirciata section consist of cycles of diatomaceous and carbonate layers alternating with organic shales of variable TOC. This study advances the understanding of evolutionary transitions in individuality (ETIs) through a novel artificial life framework, VitaNova, which integrates self-organization and natural selection to simulate the emergence of complex, reproductive groups. By dynamically modeling individual agents within an environment shaped by predators and spatial constraints, VitaNova reveals mechanisms by which simple agents evolve into cohesive units exhibiting collective reproduction. The findings highlight the synergy between self-organized behaviors and adaptive evolutionary strategies as fundamental drivers of ETIs. This approach deepens our understanding of higher-order biological individuality and offers a new empirical pathway for investigating ETIs, extending current theoretical frameworks.

The level scheme of the 226-236Th nuclei is analyzed using the Interacting Boson Model (IBM-1). The ground state band (g. s.-band), beta band (β-band), gamma band (γ-band) have been described in the sd model space. To calculate the negative parity energy levels, the model space is extended to sdf by adding the f-boson (L=3). A sequence of states in energy bands up to 3.5 MeV has been obtained. The article presents the experimental results of the temperature dependence of the load current-voltage characteristics of a solar photovoltaic (PV) module based on a polycrystalline semiconductor binary compound Cu(In,Ga)Se2 under normal sunlight Prad=800±5 W/m2, in a temperature range of (32÷60) оС. It was found that the temperature dependence of the photocurrent has two slopes, which is explained by a change in the generation-recombination mechanism. Recent advancements in foundation models, such as the Segment Anything Model (SAM), have shown strong performance in various vision tasks, particularly image segmentation, due to their impressive zero-shot segmentation capabilities. However, effectively adapting such models for medical image classification is still a less explored topic. In this paper, we introduce a new framework to adapt SAM for medical image classification. The uniform Hamilton-Waterloo Problem (HWP) asks for a resolvable (CM, CN)decomposition of Kv into α CM-factors and β CN-factors. We denote a solution to the uniform Hamilton-Waterloo problem by HWP(v, M, N, α, β). Our research concentrates on addressing some of the remaining unresolved cases, which pose a significant challenge to generalize. We place a particular emphasis on instances where the gcd(M, N) = {2, 3}, with a specific focus on the parameter M = 6. This action research explores how AI-assisted feedback formats influence students’ academic writing and critical thinking, a gap particularly relevant in the digital learning landscape. This study involved 40 undergraduate Emirati students divided into two groups, receiving either AI-generated video or written feedback across three assignments. Using a quantitative design, data were gathered using standardized critical thinking and academic writing skills rubrics. Additionally, students completed post-surveys to capture their perceptions, engagement levels and use of AI tools in the learning process. Plastic waste represents a serious environmental and health hazard due to its non-biodegradability and toxic leachates. This study investigates the potential conversion of plastic waste into a sustainable raw material for producing a useful substance. This investigation focuses on repurposing PET beverage bottles—a major contributor to microplastic pollution—into high-value activated carbon (AC) for water treatment, aligning with circular economy principles. The chemical preparation method for AC using phosphoric acid as an activating agent was evaluated. Results demonstrated the successful conversion of 68% of plastic waste into AC under the following conditions: pyrolysis temperature of 700°C, pyrolysis time of 7 hours, …
