Neuraxial anesthesia including epidural, spinal, and combined spinal-epidural, is used with 65% of parturients in the United States for the management of pain and discomfort. Conventional landmark palpation has been the mainstay technique for neuraxial anesthesia, but unfamiliar spinal anatomy can lead to incomplete blockade or an increased incidence of complications. Scoliosis causes lateral curvature and rotation of the spine leading to arthritis and soft tissue changes that can present obscure anatomical landmarks, cause difficulty in needle passage, and result in inadequacy of local anesthetic efficacy. PURPOSE: This study was designed to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of population-level reoperation rates and incremental healthcare costs associated with reoperation for patients who underwent breast-conserving surgery (BCS).

METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort study using Merative™ MarketScan

RESULTS: The commercial cohort included 17,129 women with a median age of 55 (interquartile range [IQR] 49-59) years, and the Medicare cohort included 6977 women with a median age of 73 (IQR 69-78) years. Overall reoperation rates were 21.1% (95% confidence interval [CI] 20.5-21.8%) for the commercial cohort and 14.9% (95% CI 14.1-15.7%) for the Medicare cohort. In both cohorts, …

Background: In adolescents with significant dysmenorrhea, empiric therapy via analgesics and hormonal medications is considered gold standard. However, those with refractory pain may have endometriosis. Thus, it is recommended to engage in shared medical decision making with these patients regarding diagnostic laparoscopy. If endometriosis is detected intraoperatively, these lesions are often fulgurated or excised. There currently is a paucity of data regarding the benefits of diagnostic laparoscopy and destruction of lesions in the adolescent population.

Hospital A's peripartum unit has no set policy for Nurse Knowledge Exchange (NKE) during transfers. This project will introduce a standard handoff guide to enhance communication and prevent harmful results after patient transfers.

Context The quality improvement project was conducted in a peripartum mesosystem within an urban hospital in Northern California. This specific area of the hospital comprised 21 postpartum rooms and nine laboring rooms.

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are a favorable option for adolescents for contraception and menstrual suppression. However, few choose this option citing anxiety and concern for pain related to insertion procedure. Our institution proposes utilizing conscious sedation techniques for anxiolysis and analgesia during IUD insertion. The objective of this study was to identify characteristics of teens choosing conscious sedation for this procedure and likelihood of successful insertion.

While uterine leiomyomas remain a common occurrence affecting nearly 30% of adult women above 35yo, leiomyomas can arise anywhere smooth muscle cells are located in the body. Vulvar leiomyomas are a particularly rare diagnosis, often misdiagnosed as Bartholin gland cyst, comprising 0.07% of vulvar tumors, and thought to arise from smooth muscle within the round ligament, erectile tissue, and dartos muscle. Even more rare is the presentation of vulvar leiomyoma in the adolescent population and family history of vulvar leiomyoma.

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the leading cause of cervical cancer worldwide and the most common sexually transmitted disease, yet hesitancy towards the HPV vaccine remains high and uptake of the HPV vaccine remains remarkably low (CDC, 2021b). The purpose of this evidence-based practice (EBP) project was to determine if the implementation of a multimodal intervention including a motivational interview, strong provider recommendation, and educational materials will decrease HPV vaccine hesitancy and consequentially increase uptake of the vaccine. • Minimally invasive surgery often requires tissue morcellation for extraction of large surgical specimens.¹
• Surgeon comfort with tissue morcellation in gynecologic surgery is vital in providing a minimally invasive (MIS) approach.
• However, OBGYN residents often feel underprepared to perform this skill independently.²
• While practicing tissue morcellation in the OR is ideal, simulation has been shown to improve resident technical skill without risking increased operative time or associated morbidity.³
• This intervention seeks to build upon a prior simulation exercise, with the ultimate goal of improving OB-GYN resident self-reported comfort with minimally invasive tissue extraction.

This study investigates barriers faced by mothers in these areas, utilizing data from state health departments, as well as the CDC. Findings reveal clear disparities in healthcare access and resources, exacerbated by high poverty and rural settings. Proposed interventions include educational posters and community workshops to empower expecting mothers and families. However, challenges such as low attendance and limited effectiveness of interventions underscore the need for comprehensive, sustainable solutions to tackle maternal mortality in Southern New Jersey.

Introduction: This study aimed to assess the healthcare experiences of transmasculine individuals in primary and gynecological care settings. An online, anonymous survey was conducted to gather insights into positive and adverse encounters, factors influencing care-seeking behaviors, and strategies for improving care delivery in this population.

Methods: A survey was administered between June 1st and July 23rd, 2023, recruiting participants from three LGBTQ+ affirming healthcare offices in South Jersey and via Reddit. Data analysis involved SPSS to gain information from 499 valid responses.

Mature cystic teratomas (MCTs) constitute 70% of all ovarian neoplasms. They typically present with nonspecific symptoms such as pain and nausea. They account for approximately 2% of all primary ovarian malignant cancers and are predominately diagnosed via ultrasound. Computed tomography may be necessary if malignancy is suspected. The purpose of this review is to explore perinatal ketamine’s potential for reducing postpartum depression after cesarean section. Articles reviewed from Pubmed, Cochrane, and Web of Science using specific search terms. 8 final papers were used for review after excluding duplicates and irrelevant titles and abstracts. Ketamine showed potential in reducing postpartum depression symptoms post C-section, although some studies reported no significant effects. All studies were randomized control trials. Ketamine may help prevent or lessen postpartum depression symptoms post C-section, but more research is needed to understand dosing and its casual relationship with PPD in this context.
