In accepting this research grant my objective was to better understand the characteristics of ADHD and to regard these characteristics as strengths that could be seen as assets in a classroom. When I began this research I was hopeful that I would find many articles discussing the positive traits of students with ADHD; however, disappointingly, I read far more articles explaining how to control or manage the students so that they would better fit into our ideal traditional classroom. Sixteen women’s portraits grace the capitals of four piers at the two main entrances to the Salt Lake City and County Building, a building which though controversial at the time, serves today as the icon of the city’s logo. Much like the details on the sandstone from which they were carved, their names have disappeared with time and only so much can be restored. Commercial Theatre Practices In Non-Profit Theatre, Andrew Joy, Jeffrey Martin

This creative project compared two case studies in theatrical producing. Simply put, being a producer is being in charge of finding the material to produce (i.e. a play, musical, dance program etc.), making all arrangements to put that material on stage, and being financially responsible for the project from the beginning to end. Commercial theatre “operates without subsidy and is centered in New York City.¹” Other types of theatre that were a part of this project were non-profit, regional, community and educational theatre but will be referred to as non-profit theatre.

The purpose of this project was two fold. First, we wanted to create a literacy tool that could be used by educators to help bridge the gap between picture books and novels. Second, we wanted to expand our skills and knowledge through the art form of sequential storytelling. It was interesting because as we began this journey our desire to help others was the main goal. But over the year, I’ve found that I, myself, will be one of the largest beneficiaries of this project.

The basis of my work is a consciousness of the presence of the soul and the choices that compose our reality. I use light to illuminate space and manipulate human emotion. The landscapes are mirror images of my mind, dreams both light and dark, of beauty and brutality, the expression of my invisible world. My decisions in the studio are tied to my experiences outside of the studio, intertwining the complex relationship of memory and sentience. Each work precariously balances between softness and rigidity, vessel and sculpture, monumentality and intimacy. These tensions transform the familiar into the enigmatic and are an integral part of my philosophical approach to making.

Soft curves and billowing planes are punctuated by the structure of defined edges, hard angles, and areas of dark shadows. This duality suggests two worlds, one of feeling, intuition, sensuality, and dreams, the other of intellect, reason, structure, form, rhythm, and geometry.

The world is saturated with images and things. I have chosen to put more images and things into the world. In doing so, I complicate and further saturate these connections, but I also find clarity and answers through the mark, the gesture, the image, and material. I make marks with materials that are closely related to the meanings of the things I depict. The images and objects I make are ones that I know and understand because they are close to me, but the process of making leaves room for inquiry and unfamiliarity with these same objects.

The Evolution Of The Medici Portrait: From Business To Politics, Mark J. Danford

Masters Theses

The art patronage of Cosimo “il Vecchio” de' Medici (1389-1464) and Grand Duke Cosimo “il Primo” de' Medici (1519-1574) seemed to be driven by very different ideals. While il Vecchio was driven by business and politics, il Primo was driven by politics and dynastic concerns....It will be shown that when Cosimo “il Vecchio” de' Medici was the Medici patriarch (1434-1464),Medici business strength was at its greatest while Medici portraiture was minimal. On the other end of the spectrum, after Cosimo Ide' Medici became the Grand Duke of Tuscany in 1569, Medici political power reached its pinnacle, as did dynastic portraiture.

I love making things up.

I am a fabricator of moments: a storyteller who relies on construction rather than incantation. As a child, making was labor, holding ladders, watching, and helping carry heavy equipment. It was a requirement, a rite. Making was also playful - stacking something on top of something to make something. That something could be anything. There was, I learned, a satisfaction in bringing an object into the world. It was a marker of my existence.

I pursue art that makes physical contact with the viewer, art that needs to be touched and changed by its surroundings and inhabitants. Relational Aesthetics are integral to my conceptual approach. I value the life my work takes on through the viewer, stemming from the object. A temporal grouping of participants, their reaction and effect, complete the work. Interactions take a democratic approach, giving every viewer a chance, to promote dialogue through shared experience.
