The Living Syllabus: Rethinking The Introductory Course To Art History With Interactive Visualization, Caroline Bruzelius, Hannah L. Jacobs
Art History Pedagogy & Practice
This essay describes an experiment in adopting mapping and timeline technologies in the Introduction to Art History course taught at Duke University. The creation of an interactive, “living,” syllabus in Neatline and Omeka allowed us to embed maps, course powerpoints, links to museum websites, news articles, videos, and clips from movies. In this article, we describe how the integration of mapping tools and multimedia transformed our approach to the discipline of Art History, enabling us to engage with trade and exchange networks for raw materials, artistic ideas and motifs, and the art market.

Librarians Doing Dh: A Team And Project-Based Approach To Digital Humanities In The Library, Lydia Bello, Madelynn Dickerson, Margaret Hogarth, Ashley Sanders
Collaborative Librarianship
The Claremont Colleges Library embarked on a “learn by doing” Digital Humanities (DH) program and series of team-based projects in order to provide librarians experience working directly with DH methodologies and tools. Drawing from two divisions in the Library, a team of librarians designed an analysis project using DH tools to examine collection development trends on the topic of terrorism. In the process, the team addressed technical obstacles, communication issues and time management techniques that contributed to a productive collaboration. DH can be a catalyst for librarians’ own research beyond serving in a supportive role for the disciplines. With its …

Fordham Archived Digital Projects
The Independent Crusaders Mapping Project provides a database, map, documents and pedagogical tools to inform audiences about expeditions undertaken by western European knights to the Holy Land and more specifically Jerusalem in the years between the papally sanctioned Crusades.
The form of the project being archived here is the first iteration of the Independent Crusaders Mapping Project. It is the result of a number of decisions made in the course of the project's development. The project was always intended to include three parts, TEI encoded charters, a map visualizing data found in those charters, and a spreadsheet or database that …

Last summer I researched the experiences of women at Gettysburg College during the pivotal decade 1965-1975 with the support of a college grant, the Koble Fellowship, a ten-week humanities based faculty-mentored research project. I tracked women's experiences at the college during this period and designed a digital scholarship project to share their stories. As a history major and as a feminist, a project about the history of women and their activism on campus nicely complemented by interests. (excerpt)

This study draws on design-based research on an ARIS–based mobile augmented reality game for teaching early 20th century history. New design principles derived from the study include the use of supra-reveals, and bias mirroring. Supra-reveals are a kind of foreshadowing event in order to ground historical happenings in the wider enduring historical understanding. Bias mirroring refers to a nonplayer character echoing back a player’s biased behavior, in order to open the player to listening to alternative perspectives. Supra-reveals engendered discussion of historical themes early in the game experience. The results showed that use of a cluster of NPC bias mirroring …
