Ailbhe & Johnny's Wedding Invitations, Anne Giangiulio 2011 University of Texas at El Paso

Ailbhe & Johnny's Wedding Invitations, Anne Giangiulio

Selected Works Temporary Series

I designed this pop-up wedding invitation for my good friends. It was inspired by a much simpler, handmade pop-up card from Oaxaca, Mexico that the groom had bought the bride when they were dating and that they both loved. The hands of bridesmaids, family, and friends were enlisted for the measuring, cutting, tying and gluing that these invites required. With coordinating lined envelopes, hand-calligraphy addresses and metallic gold wax seals, These invitations were truly a labor of love. We even made confetti out of any leftover paper scraps!

Dealing Death And Drugs: The Big Business Of Dope In The U.S. And Mexico, Anne Giangiulio

Selected Works Temporary Series

Excerpt from the book I designed, 'Dealing Death and Drugs: The Big Business of Dope in the U.S. and Mexico' by El Paso City Representatives Susie Byrd and Beto O’Rourke. Published by Cinco Puntos Press. Byrd and O’Rourke soon realized American drug use and United States' failed War on Drugs are at the core of problem. In Dealing Death and Drugs—a book written for the general reader—they explore the costs and consequences of marijuana prohibition. They argue that marijuana prohibition has created a black market so profitable that drug kingpins are billionaires and drug control doesn’t stand a chance. Using …

Taking Sides, But Who’S Counting? The Decagonal Tomb Tower At Maragha, 2011 University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Taking Sides, But Who’S Counting? The Decagonal Tomb Tower At Maragha

Textile Research Works

Lu and Steinhardt introduced the term “girih tiles” to describe the set of equilateral polygons that structures a colorful two-dimensional decagonal tiling on the Darb-e Imam in Isfahan, Iran (1453 CE) with distant roots in the five-fold symmetries articulated in brick on the Gonbad-e Qabud, a tomb tower dated to the late 12th century CE located at Maragha in western Iran. Their work seeks to establish the early existence of quasi-crystalline tilings long before such means of covering the plane were understood mathematically in the West. Questions remained unanswered as to whether those who constructed these monuments were aware of …

The Memory Of Forgotten Things, Brittany Metz 2011 University of Central Florida

The Memory Of Forgotten Things, Brittany Metz

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis investigates my lack of childhood memories and documents how my artwork stands in as a substitute for that lost memory. The first part of the thesis analyzes my early life and influences; the second part analyzes my art making and process. The narrative style of writing is intentionally autobiographical to mimic the narrative style and structure of the thesis installation. My upbringing, interests, creative process, access to materials, and inspiration are fully explored. The impact my early life has on my current work is evident. Real memory is combined with created memory in the thesis multi-media installation. I …
