Objective: To provide an Urdu translation of the six-item version of the Urogenital Distress Inventory (UDI-6) and its validation in patients with urinary incontinence (UI), as the UDI-6 is a recognised, useful disease-specific questionnaire for the evaluation of UI in women.
Patients and Methods: We used a multi-step linguistic translation of the UDI-6, which comprised backward and forward translations coordinated by clinical investigators, followed by a pre-test in 10 patients. Metabolic alterations in prostate cancer (PC) are associated with progression and aggressiveness. However, the underlying mechanisms behind PC metabolic functions are unknown. The authors' group recently reported on the important role of centromere protein F (CENPF), a protein associated with the centromere-kinetochore complex and chromosomal segregation during mitosis, in PC MRI visibility. This study focuses on discerning the role of CENPF in metabolic perturbation in human PC3 cells. A series of bioinformatics analyses shows that CENPF is one gene that is strongly associated with aggressive PC and that its expression is positively correlated with metastasis. Collagen remodeling occurs in many prostate pathologies; however, the underlying structural architecture in both normal and diseased prostatic tissues is largely unexplored. Here, we use second-harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy to specifically probe the role of the proteoglycan decorin (Dcn) on collagen assembly in a wild type (wt) and Dcn null mouse (Dcn  -    /    -  ). Dcn is required for proper organization of collagen fibrils as it regulates size by forming an arch-like structure at the end of the fibril. Urinary stone disease is a highly prevalent urological condition; however, the pathophysiology remains poorly understood. Growing evidence suggests a relationship between urinary tract infections, antibiotic exposure and the development of urolithiasis. In this project, we utilized a dietary Drosophila melanogaster model and a calcium oxalate crystal adhesion assay to further investigate the impact of a urinary pathogen and antibiotics on calcium stone formation. We demonstrated that both a non-urease producing strain of Escherichia coli and the antibiotics, ciprofloxacin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, increased calcium stone formation. BACKGROUND: Previously published results from our laboratory identified a mechano-gated two-pore domain potassium channel, TREK-1, as a main mechanosensor in the smooth muscle of the human urinary bladder. One of the limitations of in vitro experiments on isolated human detrusor included inability to evaluate in vivo effects of TREK-1 on voiding function, as the channel is also expressed in the nervous system, and may modulate micturition via neural pathways. Therefore, in the present study, we aimed to assess the role of TREK-1 channel in bladder function and voiding patterns in vivo by using TREK-1 knockout (KO) mice.

The purpose of our study is to assess the effects of the USPSTF grade D recommendation for PSA based screening on new PCa diagnoses within a large-community based private practice setting. Occult papillary renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a rare disease process in which there is evidence of metastatic kidney cancer, but no primary kidney tumor can be found on physical exam or imaging. The papillary subtype of RCC accounts for 10-15% of RCC’s. These lesions infrequently present as occult disease. A Virchow’s node can be positive for multiple cancer types, most notably gastric cancer, but also gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys, testicular, and prostate cancer. We describe a case of occult papillary renal cell carcinoma diagnosed by biopsy of a Virchow’s node.

Amiodarone has a well-established and extensive side effect profile: pulmonary fibrosis, thyroid toxicity, corneal deposits, skin discoloration. However, in some rare instance, epididymitis/orchitis is a side effect of amiodarone. Amiodarone toxicity was first studied in (1, 2) Symptoms range from testicular pain to swelling and erythema (1,2) The mechanism of how this toxicity occurs is unknown. In this case report, we will discuss the case of an elderly patient who developed epididymitis and orchitis after several years of tolerating amiodarone without any adverse events. Centers for Medicaid and Medicare no longer reimburse hospitals for preventable CAUTIs [2]. A concerted effort to decrease our indwelling urinary catheter (IUC) rate has led to a decrease in the number of infections related to these catheters at Maine Medical Center (MMC) in Portland, Maine. Starting in 2012 as a result of The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goal, the inter-professional CAUTI committee focus has been on decreasing utilization of IUC[1]. Currently, much emphasis is placed on the involvement of the microbiome in the pathogenesis of type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), impaired glucose tolerance, and other metabolic disorders (i.e. obesity). OBJECTIVE: To examine donor and recipient outcomes after right-sided robotic-assisted laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (RALDN) compared with standard laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (LDN) and to determine whether robotic-assistance enhances LDN.

MATERIALS & METHODS: From December 2005 to January 2011, 25 patients underwent right-sided LDN or RALDN. An IRB-approved retrospective review was performed of both donor and recipient medical charts. Primary endpoints included both intraoperative and postoperative outcomes.

A 38-year-old female patient with well-controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus treated with canagliflozin underwent ureteral stent placement for obstructive renal calculi. Ten days following ureteroscopy and ureteral stenting, she developed fevers and blood cultures grew Candida glabrata (C. glabrata). The patient was successfully treated with an extended course of broad-spectrum antibiotics and antifungal agents. The clinical presentation of candidemia is indistinguishable from bacteremia resulting in delay in diagnosis and treatment. Candiduria is commonly seen in patients with type 2 diabetes, however it rarely leads to candidemia in an otherwise healthy person following a relatively simple urologic procedure. Sodium-glucose …
