The COVID-19 pandemic drastically changed the delivery of legal education. Many courses switched to remote instruction, and that change was particularly complicated for clinical courses. For Michigan's Workers' Right Clinic (WRC), however, the pandemic brought more than a change in course delivery - it brought a huge influx of new cases and community need with rapidly and continually changing laws. This article describes how the WRC navigated and thrived, despite the rapid changes brought about by the pandemic, and how the clinic provided an opportunity for students to engage in more complex work that benefited students both academically and mentally. …

Many of the discussions about legal education in Indonesia are similar to the ones conducted in other countries. They reflect the tension between a liberal legal education on the one hand and a vocational training on the other, as well as the tension between a legal education preparing students for legal practice and one preparing them for a broad range of generalist positions. Recent sociological, anthropological, and psychological research points at a shared problem: Are humans separate and autonomous entities, or must they be seen through the lens of extended, permeable, fractured notions of personhood? This paper discusses some crucial implications for the study of law and legal pluralism. Legal orders may differ in the degrees to which personhood is taken as embedded. At the same time, notions of personhood may also be more or less bounded, with particular fields within legal orders also espousing different degrees of personal autonomy. Indonesian Agrarian Law syncretically aims to create a national legal unity and respecting customary rights to land at the same time. The second aim is to tolerate the diversity in national land law. In the implementation of customary land registration, these two objectives do not appear to be in sync. Calls for eliminating bar exams to improve fairness and diversity in the legal profession are increasing, but A. Benjamin Spencer, dean of William & Mary Law School, argues that eliminating them is not the answer. They should be transformed into a more effective gauge of professional readiness, which, he contends, can be achieved if more states adopt the Uniform Bar Exam.

Myanmar's attorneys, judges, law officers, and law teachers are slowly emerging from the isolated world they inhabited during decades of military authoritarianism. Almost a decade ago, the country triumphantly burst into an era of "disciplined" democracy under the leadership of Aung San Suu Kyi, de facto head of state. From The Courtroom To The Boardroom: Transactional Oral Advocacy, Adam N. Eckart

Legal writing courses often teach oral advocacy skills with courtroom-based oral arguments, pitting plaintiff’s counsel against defendant’s counsel. However, oral advocacy skills are important for all lawyers – even those who never set foot in a courtroom. This article discusses how legal writing courses can develop oral advocacy skills by pairing traditional litigation-based oral argument exercises with transactional-based oral advocacy exercises and provides a sample exercise (which has received positive feedback from students) that professors can use to introduce transactional-based oral advocacy skills.
