James Joyce’s masterpiece novel Ulysses is a text built upon its relationship to other texts. The very title is a reference to the Greek hero Odysseus and the epic poem that contains his story. The form of Ulyssesrelies heavily on the structure of the Odyssey for its movement. With chapters taking key events from the Odyssey as inspiration for their themes, characters, and events. One chapter for example is based on the episode where Odysseus travels into the underworld and Joyce’s stand-in character Bloom goes to a funeral. This research examines how social media platforms like Instagram’s 2025 Terms of Services (TOS) updates reflect the increasing demand for AI training data, illustrating the critical concerns about user privacy and data rights. Technology companies like Meta progressively require vast amounts of user-generated content to develop competitive AI systems to generate financial gain. Forming their data collection practices has led to their updated terms and services. In particular, their expanded AI training rights and modified dispute resolution procedures reveal the complex tension between technological advancement and user privacy. The music industry has undoubtedly undergone fundamental changes since the invention of pitch correction technology, and audiences' many long-established views of "authenticity" are now being questioned. In this study, I quantitatively assess pitch correction technology's ethical and cultural implications for artist performance, public perception, industry popularity standards, and authenticity using open-source data from Spotify and Chart Masters.

Little Women is one of the most female-focused novels of the 19th century. The book, being so popular, inspired numerous film and television adaptations. The three most recognized film adaptations are: 1933 directed by George Cukor, 1994 directed by Gillian Armstrong, and 2019 directed by Greta Gerwig. This project aims to analyze and compare the social networks in these three adaptations to assess how genuinely female-centric the films are. This study uses sentiment analysis technology to examine six seminal comprehensive texts on American history. The texts range in publication dates from 1835 to 2018 and include notable authors such as the notorious Howard Zinn and former U.S. President Woodrow Wilson. Sentiment analysis creates quantitative data based on literature that rates each sentence on a sentiment scale that identifies the level of emotional intensity or neutrality, as well as if it is positive or negative emotional intensity. Carpenter Library approached the Head of Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) with the idea to create a virtual reality (VR) experience using one of SCUA’s most accessed special collections: the Eartha M. Undergraduate Research Symposium

This project outlines the community engagement efforts undertaken within the Pierre Laclede Honors College. Collaborating with the Hungarian Cultural Center at Mary of Victories Church, our class embarked on a multifaceted endeavor. Firstly, we recorded oral histories, transforming them into engaging videos for digital platforms. Secondly, we curated a Hungarian cookbook featuring authentic community recipes for fundraising purposes. Lastly, we crafted a comprehensive poster timeline highlighting significant milestones for the Center. Through these initiatives, we aim to celebrate and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Hungarian community in St. Louis.

Initially conceived as a syllabus for the course Critical Approaches to Education Technology in the Digital Humanities Department of the Graduate Center, the project evolved into a comprehensive, modular program addressing the historical, technical, ethical, and societal dimensions of AI.

Working with Macintosh files from the 1980 to early 2000’s can be challenging as they are often on difficult to access disks, unique encoding, have resource forks, and often don’t use extensions. Identification of files from a Macintosh formatted disk can be accomplished with identification methods such as PRONOM, but what if those standard methods come up empty or are misleading? This paper investigates a method of identification which can provide better results compared to existing methods. Large Language Models (LLMs) have made remarkable advancements, reaching a level where they can generate outputs that compete with human writing. LLM's sophisticated features, however, make it hard for us to spot the difference between human-written and AI-generated text. LLMs have several weaknesses since they are susceptible to hallucinations and outputting factually incorrect information. Shaping Heroism Through Participatory Fan Cultures: An Analysis Of Video Game Heroes As Nonhuman Online Personas, Jasmyn Connell

This paper expands the theoretical framework for analysing nonhuman personas developed by Connell and Moore (2023) to explore video game hero personas as assemblages - complex negotiations between social media platforms, video game developers, and participatory fan cultures. Through a critical analysis of Aloy from the Horizon (2017-2023) series, I argue that video game heroes are dynamic characters, and fan participation in the shaping of a video game hero’s online persona is often overlooked. This paper offers an overview of the first step in the data alignment and joint research efforts between the Japanese Visual Media Graph (JVMG) and the Graphs and Ontologies for Literary Evolution Models (GOLEM) projects. Focusing on fully or in-part anime based fandoms in the Archive of Our Own (AO3) data in the GOLEM knowledge graph we connected 534 fandoms with 1,734 anime works from the JVMG knowledge graph. The fanfiction publication numbers and dates for these fandoms were then analyzed in conjunction with the various metadata available on the corresponding anime works, such as release date, genre, content rating …

Feminist Pedagogy

This critical commentary examines the potential implications of artificial intelligence (AI) on feminist pedagogy. Drawing on the work of Wellner and Rothman (2020), Toupin (2023), and Adam (1995), this paper considers how AI could be used to advance feminist pedagogy, but raises a series of concerns as well. Challenges to critical thinking and motivating students are raised. Finally, the paper concludes by arguing for bringing AI and conversations about its use into the classroom in a way that is mindful of its potential and limits.

Environmental Storytelling can influence the climate narrative and serve as a catalyst to structurally alter how individuals think about the environment. The medium of the “Eco-film” allows viewers to create intimate connections with the natural world, and in turn alter how individuals engage and perceive issues like climate change. The Petitioning for Freedom Project under Dr. Jagodinsky is a database of habeas corpus use in the West. It examines legal action by marginalized individuals. This project focuses on how Greek and Italian petitioners used habeas to challenge sexual policing in a xenophobic context.
