Food permeates every aspect of life and society, from birth to death—from the new-born’s first suckle to the food traditions associated with Irish wakes and funerals. Essential for survival, it has historically proven academically elusive, hidden in plain sight. Entangled with the domestic and the feminine, it was traditionally regarded as too mundane and too quotidian for consideration. Depending on how you define it, Irish Studies has somewhere between 50 and 100 years of history as an academic discipline. This research explored digital marketing strategies for restaurants in the Braj region of Uttar Pradesh, India, using a mixed-methods approach over six months. It involved a representative sample of 25 restaurants selected through stratified random sampling to ensure diversity.

Quantitative data were collected via structured surveys assessing website presence, social media engagement, and online reviews, while qualitative insights were gathered through in-depth interviews and focus groups with restaurant owners and marketing managers.

Data analysis included descriptive statistics and regression analysis to examine the relationship between digital presence and business performance, alongside thematic analysis to identify cultural influences on marketing strategies. …

This research investigates the influence of social media on political change and the role of digital activism, with a particular emphasis on the obstacles of disinformation and polarism. The employed approach is a qualitative research examining literature pertinent to network society, political participation, and collective action theories. The findings indicate that social media enhances and broadens political mobilization by reducing participation barriers, enabling individuals to engage in political activity more inclusively. Nonetheless, obstacles such as political polarization and the proliferation of disinformation pose substantial impediments to the efficacy of digital engagement. This article explores the integration of library instruction, digital humanities, and community engagement through the "Asia in Saint Louis" project at Washington University in St. Louis. Led by subject librarians Joan Wang and David Romney, in collaboration with digital humanities specialists and local community organizations, the project aimed to digitally reconstruct and showcase the histories of Asian Americans in St. Louis from the late 19th to the 20th century. Funded by the Missouri Humanities Council, the project employed ArcGIS StoryMap technology to create a series of interactive narratives. This study investigates the technological strategies the youth in Sub-Saharan Africa employ to circumvent government surveillance and censorship. Centered on the 2020 Zambian youth protests and informed by interviews with 37 participants, we explore the youth’s innovative use of mundane skills to build digital communities, evade government surveillance, and leverage algorithms. The findings indicate that despite limited online access and government restrictions, the Zambian youth creatively employed their local skills to build social networks, disseminate information, and mobilize for social change. However, two contrasting narratives emerge: one celebrating the innovation and resilience of these young people, with the other raising …

This study investigates how local and national news media outlets — particularly the Associated Press, CNN, the Florida Times-Union, and News4Jax — presented the “Dollar General Shooting” in Jacksonville, Florida on and after August 26, 2023. Far-reaching expectations for journalists call for “objective” observation and reporting, an ideal that is nearly impossible given that collective and individual experience inform perceptions and understandings. This project presents an AI-driven multi-agent system for managing and prioritizing patient appointments in a physician's chamber in a resource-poor setting. By employing a multi-agent architecture and a vector database, the system dynamically adapts to real-time events like patient check-ins, and supports the manual reordering of appointments. Built using Python, LangChain, and the ChromaDB vector database, the system can be accessed via a simple UI on Streamlit. The objective is to enhance patient flow, reduce wait times, and provide an adaptive and efficient appointment system in a Bangladeshi clinical setting.

As technology embeds into higher education classroom instruction, digital humanities assignments may be looked to as an alternative for writing papers or curating exhibits, and an area of interest for faculty members looking for multiple ways to build student critical thinking skills. This case-study focuses on an 8-week Omeka.net project assignment created collaboratively by a costume/design professor and the fine arts librarian. This article includes the assignment instructions for students, a rubric to use for Omeka metadata, and lead-in assignments that include image citation, visual literacy, and ethically finding image sources.

The field of technology ethics has seen increasing growth and interest over the years. Many have begun to consider the impacts of technology’s use and whether it is being employed in a healthy manner by users. However, there has been limited investigation into whether the ways in which technology use varies across cultures. This study begins to address this gap by researching Italian and American device usage in fast food settings. Non-participant naturalistic observations were used to record data for 89 Italian and 88 American customers of fast food restaurants. This research poster aims to explore two English translations of the ancient Roman epic “The Aeneid” written by the poet Virgil. The two versions that were chosen for analysis are John Dryden’s translation from 1697 compared with Robert Fagles’ translation from 2006. This poster seeks to use sentiment analysis and word frequency analysis tools to analytically compare the two versions of the epic. From the results, the older translation appeared to use more formal wording and “dramatic” storytelling structures compared to a more “accurate” rendition of the epic translated using modern language. This project examines sentiment surrounding mentions of artificial intelligence within news broadcasts of the three most prominent American news channels: FOX, CNN, and CNBC. Sentiment analysis was conducted on closed captioning data from news clips that mentioned “artificial intelligence” for each of the news channels from 2012 to 2024. This project seeks to evaluate sentiment as mentions of artificial intelligence increase and compare the respective sentiment for each news channel. While clear sentiment differences from the beginning of the time period to the end could not be determined, there was a difference in the overall sentiment trends for each news …
