The Politics Of Self-Representation In Abdelmajid Benjelloun’S Novel In Childhood : An Ambivalent And Displaced Morrocan « Self », Azize Kour

Dirassat

This article examines the politics of Moroccan cultural self- representation from a novelistic perspective. It attempts to foreground the ambivalent standpoint that many Moroccan novelists evince in imag (in) ing Moroccan cultural identity. A hybrid approach to the Self/ Other dialectic comes into play in this endeavour at self-definition. Importantly, this article tries to outline Moroccan self-representation from gendered, spatial and national perspectives. It, therefore, seeks to answer the following questions: How does Abdelmajid Benjelloun's autobiographical novel In Childhood represent Moroccan identity and culture? Is its portrayal of Moroccaness supportive or critical of the Orientalist lenses that Morocco has been …

Le Portrait Du Poète En Barbare Dans L’Œuvre D’Henri Michaux, Taoufiq Moueddene

Dirassat

The article highlights the imprint and poetic requirement of Henri Michaux in his work on the portrait of the poet in barbarian. The author returns, from a complex game, to the question of the plural being. Michaux diverts from the recognition and republic of letters, to make of it to be, not only the barbarian and the pariah of French literature but also his «Mlecha». Michaux’s work and life are part of a reflection on literature in its relation to being as a machine to be and to think.

Often called experimental thinking, Michaux is a discreet poet, painter painterand …

Aménagement Sociolinguistique De L'Espace Urbain Au Maroc, Amina Saoussany

Dirassat

The sociolinguistic configuration of Morocco reveals that Morocco is a multi-lingual country. Many languages coexist in it. They are of unequal importance, though, the language-field prevailing in Morocco is characterized by the prevalence of an array of languages and dialects (cf Abbassi, 1977; Boukous, 1979; Gravel, 1979; Bentahila, 1983; Ennaji, 1991...). This field remains highly distinct from the multi-racial mosaic finding form in some countries like(...) Cameroon or Tanzania (El Gherbi 1993:13). It produces an area where the confrontation of historical and language factors results into the coexistence of certain dialects. It also contributes to the evolution of some languages …

Dirassat

This article reflects the patterns of critical reception in Maranian critics. It shows that Moroccan literature does not allow for literary criticism due to the abundance of their western thoughts in their works. It also points out that such rejection or disappointment in readings intended to conflict with old critics in the study of monetary issues. This pattern of reception distinguished the reading of a Marinian critic who sought to develop Arab thought in general and the critical sense in particular. Arab thought is constantly evolving and the application of many ideas varies depending on the context. Therefore, the literary …

البلاغة العربية بين الشفاهية والكتابية, عبد الرحيم الهبيل أستاذ مشارك

Journal of Al-Azhar University – Gaza (Humanities)

Palestinian Evangelical Christian Music In Bethlehem, Israel/Palestine, Abby Smith 2021 Liberty University

Palestinian Evangelical Christian Music In Bethlehem, Israel/Palestine, Abby Smith

Senior Honors Theses

Often the story of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is portrayed as Jewish vs. Muslim, Hebrew vs. Arab. There is little room in the international dialogue for minorities such as Arab Christians. Though Palestinians have a rich culture of Arabic musical and poetic heritage, they are unable to produce their own new songs. In this study I interviewed three members of Immanuel Evangelical Church on their experiences and opinions on local Christian worship. The findings show that Palestinian Christians may feel unable to write worship music because of a prevalent feeling of inadequacy and a lack of musical training. I propose several …

The Jordanian Novel In Postmodern Context, Hamed Alalamat 2021 University of Arkansas, Fayetteville

The Jordanian Novel In Postmodern Context, Hamed Alalamat

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

As the Jordanian culture is gradually impacted by the globalization process of late capitalism, this study argues that many Jordanian novels exhibit a number of postmodern characteristics, such as blurring boundaries and disrupting hierarchies, the use of pastiche as a compositional technique, formal fragmentation, and the weakness of utopian imagination. Adopting Fredric Jameson’s theory of postmodernism as a framework, the study explores ten Jordanian novels written between 1986 and 2016 to demonstrate that the modernization process and the cultural changes in the Arab world, in general, and in the Jordanian society, in particular, have increased the density of postmodern features …

Arab Authors’ Responses To Cross-Cultural Experiences With Europe: The Contrasting Perspectives Of ‘Abd Al-Rahman Al-Jabarti And Rifa‘A Al-Tahtawi, Clara R. Keuss

Global Tides

This article contrasts the ways in which major Arab authors of the early or pre- Nahda (Ar. "awakening," "renaissance") period (ca. 1850-1950) responded to the French during and after the Napoleonic occupation of Egypt (1798-1801), specifically through Abd al-Rahman al-Jabarti’s contemporary chronicles of the invasion and Rifa'a al-Tahtawi's account of his five-year stay in Paris (1826-31). In so doing, it explores how or whether these reflections on the European other inflected the later development of modern Arabic narrative and concepts of Egyptian identity.

Title : Criticism of Criticism : Themes, Objectives and Method

During the twentieth century, literary criticism experienced incredible development and fruitful openness onto humanities. Literary theory scholars recovered most of its neglected facets and shortcomings. Concomitantly, literary criticism witnessed a period of turmoil and retreat. Thus, Criticism shift focus onto scrutinizing literature to understand the mechanisms of critical discourse. Ancient Arab criticism was limited to descriptive discourse, which generates questions about texts to deconstruct them. By far, criticism remains a conscious art, which adopts scientific methodology. Thus, criticism of criticism is interdisciplinary, and seeks to formulate new theoretical and methodological …

Long poems have always fascinated researchers because they are considered as the backbone of the Arab Diwan. These long poems are classified as Moallacat; that is to say, they stick to the mind and memory of readers for their poetics, musicality and metric . Several collectors such as Hammad labled them “Essamout”; as a result , many scholars such as IBn Alkalbi and Ibn Abd Rabbo extensively analyzed and studied these long poems. It is worth mentioning that these long poems still raise controversy as to …

Title : The problematic of the implementing methodology in contemporary Arab criticism

Methodology was originally devised to evaluate and study literary work, it is indeed a tool which the critic approaches the literary text. Arab critics are fascinated by everything that has come to with the same logic. Consequently, the text is merely a means to apply methodology and not the opposite.Arab critics were entitled to search for methods to analyze and evaluate their artistic productions but it was in vain. Therefore; they adopted western critical methodology that ultimate fails to capture the beauty and creativity of the Arab creative …
