The present study examines Abū ʿAmr ibn al-ʿAlāʾ (d. 154/770), an important scholar whose life coincided with the rise of the various disciplines of Qur’anic philology. I examine his contribution to the field Qur’anic philology, focusing on three distinct yet overlapping genres: Qur’anic chronology, Qur’anic counting, and variant readings. Because these genres were still in development during his time, the material examined in this thesis allows us to examine their state before they reached full development. This article explores sibling relations in Mamdūḥ ‘Azzām’s (1950- ) Lā tukhbir al-ḥiṣān (2019, Don’t Tell the Horse). Using Mikhail Bakhtin’s (1895-1975) theories on the dialogic nature of the novel and the polyphony of voices existing in a single text, the article charts the characters’ movement in and out of the different storylines in ‘Azzām’s novel, and the way in which this informs the dynamic of the family story. This study deals with simile as a figure of speech in the field of theoretical linguistics and relevance theory. It presents a model in analyzing the degree of relevance in comparing “Houris” in the Quranic discourse, based on the inductive approach in reviewing related literature and the descriptive approach in selecting the material. This paper aims to study the narration techniques in Our Last Best Chance and to demonstrate the tools, backgrounds, and references that King Abdullah II’s biography was based on. The researcher follows the analytical, descriptive approach in this paper. One of the major narration techniques that his Majesty used to write about his personal and political life is the narrative form that contains “I” and “we” together. Furthermore, this paper investigates the production of the autobiographical speech for a political man, and such a speech is colored by the literary, aristics, and aesthetic aspects at the same time.
