Introduction: Hemifacial spasm (HFS) is characterized by the involuntary, paroxysmal, painless, and progressive spasmodic contractions of facial muscles innervated by the ipsilateral seventh cranial nerve. To date, neuroimaging studies (Computed Tomography scan [CT] and Magnetic Resonance Imaging [MRI]) are unable to establish the diagnosis. HFS medical treatment with antiepileptic drugs, and Botulinum toxin application are temporarily effective, however, both have shown side effects and lesser cost-effective results. Introduction: Acute subdural hemorrhage (aSDH) in association with aneurismal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a severe disease with an incidence of 0.5% to 7.9% of all SAH. Due to the rarity of aneurysmal aSDH, it remains difficult to define a comprehensive management protocol. In this case review, following the CARE guidelines, we show the hybrid management of this pathology to know the importance of using different types of neurosurgical treatments in case of two severe diseases in critical patients.

Background: Active Functional Mapping (AFM) is the gold standard method for localizing cortical and subcortical brain functional areas and tracts. By definition, it requires direct application of controlled electrical stimuli under established protocols. Nevertheless, it entails inherent risks, such as causing intraoperative seizures. Background: Epidermoid cysts (EC) are relatively rare congenital lesions. They arise from ectodermal debris during aberrant closure of the neural tube, are benign, and of slow growth. Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is a choice of treatment for pituitary adenomas (PA), particularly for residual or recurrent disease, apart from surgery. It has a progression free survival and endocrine remission rate comparable to surgery, with fewer side effects, making it an ideal tool for dealing with PA. In this review, we have discussed the role of SRS for primary as well as post-operative residual/ recurrent PA, and have assessed its safety and outcomes.

While spinal interbody cage options have proliferated in the past decade, relatively little work has been done to explore the comparative potential of biomaterial technologies in promoting stable fusion. Innovations such as micro-etching and nano-architectural designs have shown purported benefits in in vitro studies, but lack clinical data describing their optimal implementation. Objective: Assess the efficacy of subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN DBS) versus solely optimal pharmacological use in early Parkinson's Disease to improve motor dysfunction. Design: Systematic Literature Review. Methods: Searches were completed on PubMed utilizing the MeSH terms: “subthalamic, deep brain stimulation, and early parkinson.” Using PubMed the following limits and terms were used: published in the last 10 years, randomized controlled trial, English, human, and removing duplicates. Introduction: Strengthening The Reporting Of Cohort Studies in Surgery (STROCSS) guidelines were developed in 2017 in order to improve the reporting quality of observational studies in surgery and updated in 2019. In order to maintain relevance and continue upholding good reporting quality among observational studies in surgery, we aimed to update STROCSS 2019 guidelines.

At the time of this writing, the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic continues to be a global threat, disrupting usual processes, and protocols for delivering health care around the globe. The current standard of care in glioblastoma management is surgery followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Temozolomide is an alkylating agent most commonly used with a few other second line options. The efficacy of systemic chemotherapy in brain malignancies is limited due to the nature of the blood-brain barrier. Nanomedicine offers one avenue of improving drug delivery to these tumours in a more focussed and effective way in higher doses than currently possible, while simultaneously reducing systemic toxicity.

To see whether acute intraoperative recordings using stereo EEG (SEEG) electrodes can replace prolonged interictal intracranial EEG (iEEG) recording, making the process more efficient and safer, 10 min of iEEG were recorded following electrode implantation in 16 anesthetized patients, and 1–2 days later during non-rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Ripples on oscillations (RonO, 80–250 Hz), ripples on spikes (RonS), sharp-spikes, fast RonO (fRonO, 250–600 Hz), and fast RonS (fRonS) were semi-automatically detected.
