Rummaging through the racks, hanger after hanger offers style at a price you can’t beat—free. Here on the third floor of the Law School, the Faculty Conference Room has been transformed into a makeshift storefront. Dresses, suits, dress shirts, sweaters, and more hang from three racks of donated clothing. Each piece already has its own history, but thanks to the generosity of faculty, staff, alumni, and even friends, law students have the opportunity to create their own in donated designer threads.

This workshop will discuss how to develop legal research strategies using a mix of subscription resources and free/low-cost alternatives. Fastcase is available for free through state bar associations for licensed attorneys, so knowing how to use it will make you a well-rounded legal researcher. This workshop will cover how researchers in many different contexts can access accurate and reliable legal information. What is available on each platform? The American Bar Association’s issuance of Standard 303(b)(3) represents a pivotal shift compelling law schools to adapt their approach to the evolving needs of law students, lawyers, and the profession. The Standard serves as an invitation to re-evaluate the relationship between the primary curriculum and student support frameworks. This Article proposes a comprehensive approach to infuse professional identity development throughout the first year of law school. This symposium will focus on the contrasting judicial opinions of Justices Barrett and Justice Jackson. We have planned three panel discussions covering key topics before the Court, including gun rights and presidential immunity. For the gun rights panel, we will focus on New York Pistol Association v. Bruen and Rahimi v. United States. The presidential immunity panel will discuss Trump v. United States. Lastly, we plan to have an additional panel dedicated to exploring the judicial ideologies of Justice Jackson and Justice Barrett, specifically examining how their theories of constitutional interpretation diverge from other justices.

Mistakes: everyone makes them, perhaps the new law student more than most. But why do our students continue to make the same errors despite our concerted efforts to prevent them? This article explores this question and provides ideas on how to utilize mistakes to fuel the learning process. Science has proven that the human brain is hardwired to benefit from errors. However, the psychological effects of failing, cultural systems, and the American educational system are frequent barriers to this biological process.

This article asserts that the combination of AI-assisted writing tools and the immediacy of the NextGen Bar compel changes in legal education’s goals, expectations, and delivery methods. Topping off these forces, the ABA is considering increased requirements for additional experiential credits prior to graduation. These challenging mandates provide opportunities for law faculty, who can construct courses that help students learn through integrated experiential credits while promoting and spreading legal knowledge to organizations that lack legal advice.

In the mid-1840s, American settlers flocked westward on the Oregon Trail, unknowingly bringing with them measles and other foreign diseases to which the Cayuse peoples along the trail had no immunity. Hundreds of Cayuse children were brought to Narcissa and Marcus Whitman at the Whitman Mission for treatment, but ultimately these children could not be saved. In 1847, members of the Cayuse Tribe, acting under Cayuse law to dispose of false doctors (medicine men, or tewat), participated in an attack on the Presbyterian Whitman Mission in Walla Walla Washington, killing the Whitmans and eleven others.
