This thesis highlights the recent improvements and capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs), specifically their ability to produce translations between different languages. This paper investigates the intersections of race, corporate professionalism, and somatic regulation within Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) translation and interpretation. While traditional translation scholarship prioritizes linguistic neutrality, this study employs an interdisciplinary critical methodology combining Critical Race Theory (CRT), Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), and Translation and Interpreting Studies (TIS) to deconstruct how standard professional aesthetics inadvertently sustain systemic racism and Eurocentric cultural erasure. This exploratory qualitative case study examines how undergraduate signed language interpreter education programs accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE) maintain programmatic distinctiveness while complying with shared accreditation standards. Drawing on document analysis and semi-structured interviews with program directors from all 19 CCIE-accredited programs in the United States, the study investigates institutional, curricular, and contextual variables that contribute to successful accreditation and program sustainability. The study analyzed publicly available documents alongside interview data to identify commonalities and variations across programs in areas such as curriculum design, faculty composition, admissions and progression requirements, field experience, and institutional support. While cognitive styles and activities to support specific cognitive styles have been explored in various arenas of adult learning, they have yet to be applied to interpreter education. This note includes a short introduction to the Japanese critic, children’s literature scholar, and translator Seta Teiji alongside an English translation of his 1975 piece, “Tolkien Sensei’s Lingering Shadow: Seeking His Traces in a Berkshire Hamlet.” Seta translated J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia into Japanese, among many other titles. The introduction discusses Seta’s key translation practice of rendering character and place names into linguistically transparent Japanese equivalents, coincidentally conforming to Tolkien’s preferences for translating names. American Sign Language (ASL) is a challenging yet rapidly growing language taught at both secondary and higher education levels. Despite its increasing popularity, there is limited literature on utilizing ASL labs as learning centers. This quantitative study examines the implementation of a new ASL lab at a large four-year university in California. It investigates the factors influencing participation, the motivations behind students' involvement, and their perceptions of the lab's effectiveness. Results indicate significant associations between course modality, instructor influence, and lab participation. In this dissertation, I interrogate the role algorithms, artificial intelligence, and smartphone technology play in contemporary world literature. My analysis begins with the post-truth condition, which speaks to the contemporary era’s embrace of alternative facts, authoritarianism, and conspiratorial thinking. I draw on narrative theory and paradigms of world literature to show how “algorithmic reasoning” has led to a state of paranoid persecution. This reasoning has forged new collectivities across traditional borders. This study examines how ideology is constructed in the translation of Indonesian political news headlines into English by ANTARA News Agency. Moving beyond the notion of translation as mere equivalence, it conceptualizes headline translation as a process of discursive recontextualization shaped by institutional practices and audience design. Using a qualitative comparative approach, the study analyses 20 pairs of Indonesian English political headlines. The Trattato dell’Alcibra Amuchabile is a pre-modern algebra text from c. 1365. It is written in a Tuscan dialect of Italian and is situated in the abbacus school tradition, schools that taught the mathematics needed for a mercantile society. Like all the algebra written in Italy at the time, it was inherited from al-Khwarizmi and, like his, written with no symbols—no x’s, y’s, plus signs, etc. It was what is sometimes called “rhetorical algebra.”  There is very little source  material available in English from this important era in the history of algebra. This study examines how sign language interpreters in Vietnam perceive the professionalization of their field and the strategies they propose for establishing it as a recognized profession. Despite growing demand for communication access, sign language interpreting in Vietnam remains an emerging field with limited institutional infrastructure and no formal interpreter education programs. Data were collected through an online qualitative survey of 28 hearing interpreters working in sign language interpreting across Vietnam. This research sets out to explore what the effects of being video recorded during assignments are on interpreters, and to examine how interpreters adapt to the challenges of broadcast assignments. In the United States, communication access is a legislated right for Deaf people in many settings; however, recent data suggest that the number of signed language interpreters does not meet current service demand. This multiple‑case study contributes to understanding interpreter attrition by examining how disposition mismatches between novice interpreters and more experienced co‑interpreters influence early exit from the field. Attrition among novice interpreters may exacerbate demand–supply imbalances and contribute to persistent shortages in interpreting services.
