This thesis explores the Soviet Union’s approach to Islam in the Central Asian republics of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan and the effects that these policies have had on believers following the collapse of the Soviet Union. As the first nation to adopt atheism as official policy, the Soviet Party-state employed many tactics to suppress Islam in the region through violence, propaganda, and strict control. Research in the field of language teaching and learning reveals that mnemonics is one of the most effective language learning strategies for vocabulary. Researchers like Rasiban, et al. (2019); Levin (1993); Zulfa (2019); Kayaaltu (2018) suggest that using mnemonics to learn new vocabulary has a positive effect on vocabulary retention and retrieval. Research also shows however that students’ perceptions may encourage or inhibit the usage of any learning strategy depending on their perceptions of its effectiveness. The production of L2 lexical tone has proven difficult for learners of tonal languages, leading to the testing of different tone training techniques. To test the validity of these techniques, it is first necessary to capture the differences between L1 and L2 tone datasets. The current study explores three analyses designed to compare L1 and L2 tone: (1) using a single deviation score, (2) using deviation score calculations for specific regions of tone productions, and (3) applying a complexity-invariant distance measure to the two time series datasets. Interactive read-alouds are versatile in that teachers can teach an array of literacy skills through this instructional strategy. However, our observations of six primary grade teachers and prior research revealed that teachers' implementation of interactive read-alouds varies. Without the necessary planning and preparation for interactive read-alouds, the richness of this instructional strategy is limited. In this article, we present a planning tool for interactive read-alouds that teachers can readily adapt for use in their classrooms. We also offer three recommendations. This study highlights the intersections among Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and/or Other Non-Heterosexual (LGBTQ+) individuals' and/or communities' experiences with romantic relationships, relationship crises, emotional appraisals, coping mechanisms, and cyber tech practices. It employs a mixed-method approach, including in-depth interviews with LGBTQ+ participants and a digital ethnographic investigation of social media platforms. The theoretical framework and review of literature have been drawn from the queer perspectives of numerous critical cultural theories, and media and communication theories. Interviews with LGBTQ+ participants largely demonstrate three distinct mechanisms of coping, including emotional, behavioral, and psychological that LGBTQ+ individuals use after the termination of …

This article discusses early literacy instruction in China, including the impact of biliteracy education on Chinese society. This presentation is based on interviews with over two dozen scholars of Chinese literacy instruction, as well as primary early grades language arts classroom teachers from four different regions across China. The purpose of this examination of literacy education in China is to open our views of literacy instruction beyond US borders, especially in those countries with different language/literacy systems. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to uncover and understand international graduate students’ experiences with microaggressions that stem from native speaker fallacy; microaggressions are the subtle discriminatory behaviors executed toward marginalized groups and native speaker fallacy is the false belief that only some “native” English speakers are effective teachers and users of the language. Put simply, this research aimed at unveiling the subtle language-based discriminations that international graduate students experience in their day-to-day lives in U.S. educational settings. Kamp pengungsian imigran di Calais dibuka pada tahun 1999 dan kemudian ditutup secara resmi pada tahun 2002. Para imigran tetap datang dan membangun kamp secara ilegal setelah penutupan resmi kamp ini Kamp ini diberikan julukan kamp Calais “Jungle” pada tahun 2009 setelah kamp terus menerus berkembang karena jumlah imigran yang terus bertambah. Pada tahun 2014, jumlah imigran yang mengungsi di kamp ini mencapai 6.000 jiwa. Suatu komunitas sosial terbentuk dari berbagai etnis yang ada. Komunitas ini bekerjasama dan membuat sistemnya sendiri dalam menjalankan kehidupan mereka. Namun, tindak tutur yang mengancam muka mitra tutur tidak dapat dihindari pada situasi tertentu, salah satunya tindak tutur menghina yang penuh konflik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis strategi tindak tutur menghina yang dituturkan tokoh film animasi al-Riḥlah dengan menggunakan teori strategi Face-Threatening Acts (FTA) oleh Brown dan Levinson 1987. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif analitis. Pola Kalimat Transitif Pada Bahasa Isyarat Indonesia (Bisindo): Sebuah Studi Variasi Bahasa, Silva Tenrisara Pertiwi Isma

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan pola kalimat transitif pada dua ragam bahasa isyarat di Jakarta dan Yogyakarta. Terdapat 228 kalimat transitif sederhana yang diperoleh dari hasil elistitasi terhadap 10 pengguna bahasa isyarat Indonesia yang berasal dari kedua wilayah tersebut. Hasil analisis terhadap pola kalimat transitif reversibel (subjek dan objek dapat dipertukarkan) dan nonreversible (subjek dan objek tidak dapat dipertukarkan) menunjukkan bahwa bahasa isyarat ragam Jakarta cenderung berpola SPO untuk kalimat reversibel, sementara pola SOP cenderung digunakan di bahasa isyarat ragam Yogyakarta. Untuk kalimat nonreversibel, bahasa isyarat ragam Jakarta memiliki pola urutan kata yang lebih fleksibel, sementara bahasa isyarat ragam Yogyakarta …
