Historically, the discipline of translation studies has undergone many changes affecting its essence, research methods, topics, tools, as well as stakeholders’ role(s). Yet, there is still much to be transformed in regards to turns (Snell-Hornby, 2006), technological advances and mainstream discourses. Aimed at investigating the role of translation as an income-generating activity, this article reviews how translation has changed – from the Tower of Babel to the digital age – highlighting some on-field realities and prominent training challenges, with a focus on translators’ activities as entrepreneurs.

This article analyses the translational strategies of the Sufi lexicon by means of a series of comparisons between the Persian text of Rūmī’s Fīhī mā fīhi (d. 1273) and its French translation, Le livre du dedans (1976). The English translation by Arthur John Arberry (1961) and its modern retranslation by Doug Marman (2010) are also put into perspective. To conduct this analysis, the translational approaches of three key terms – Ḥaqq (the Truth), esteghrāq (the state of immersion) and faqr (the state of poverty) – are analysed using a methodology of translation criticism that is inspired by Henri Meschonnic’s Poétique …

Bilingualism has been studied extensively in multiple disciplines, yet we are still unsure how exactly bilinguals think. Though the existence of a bilingual advantage is debated, this effect has been shown in tasks using selective attention. These tasks study the effects of language interference, where two types of interference are observed: interlingual (between-languages) and intralingual (within one language). This study examines language interference in Spanish-English bilinguals using an auditory-visual simultaneous translation experimental setup. Sixteen college English monolinguals and 17 college Spanish-English bilinguals were tested.
