Using The Fine Arts To Illustrate Degrees Of Innovation: From The High Renaissance To Cubism, Kimball P. Marshall Ph.D., Rene Desborde Ph.D.
Atlantic Marketing Journal
This paper applies the marketing innovation concepts of continuous innovation, dynamically continuous innovation, and discontinuous innovation to the fine arts to suggest challenges artists face in gaining acceptance of new styles. This paper reviews shifts in broad visual arts styles from the High Renaissance to Cubism in order to illustrate these marketing innovation concepts and to indicate the roles that marketing might play in generating market acceptance of new artistic styles. These marketing roles, as suggested by the four “Ps” of marketing (product, place, promotion, and price) become particularly evident with the development of Impressionism as an illustration of dynamically …

Augmented Interventions: Re-Defining Urban Interventions With Ar And Open Data, Conor Mcgarrigle
Books/Book Chapters
This chapter proposes that augmented reality art and open data offer the potential for a redefinition of urban interventionist art practices.
Data has emerged as a significant force in contemporary networked culture from the commercial commodification of online presence as practised by internet giants Facebook and Google to the 2013 revelations of the unprecedented scale of the US Government’s data collection regime carried out by the NSA (Gellman and Piotras, U.S., British intelligence mining data from nine U.S. Internet companies in broad secret program, http://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/us-intelligence-mining-data-from-nine-us- internet-companies-in-broad-secret-program/2013/06/06/3a0c0da8-cebf-11e2-8845- d970ccb04497_story.html, 2013). Big data and its effective deployment is seen as essential to the …

Schmucker Art Catalogs
Coronal Plane is the culmination of Millett’s research on the anatomical theater at the University of Padua built in 1594, the oldest surviving anatomy theater in the world. The installation allows viewers to walk into and through a space that evokes physical, emotional, and psychological reactions similar to those experienced in the historic anatomy theater in Padua by audiences of the past. Illustrations depicted on red “windows” in Millett’s work are appropriated from De Formato Foetu, a text written by Girolamo Fabrizi d’Acquapendente (Hieronymus Fabricius), the Chair of Anatomy at the University of Padua. It was under his leadership that …

Cultural Diplomacy And Trade: Making Connections, North American Cultural Diplomacy Initiative
FIMS Publications
The North American Cultural Diplomacy Initiative’s (NACDI) approach to cultural diplomacy is based on: an expansive and nuanced approach to the term culture; a belief in the necessity of relational, rather than transactional engagement; and an interest in understanding the significance of non-state actors in the current network environment of diplomacy. Rather than seeing the multifaceted nature of cultural diplomacy as a challenge, NACDI points to complexity as a reason to advance nuanced discussions, including the recognition of a wide range of actors and activities, and well-developed indicators that have specific qualitative and quantitative measurements. The report, Cultural Diplomacy and …

Murder At The Palace Theater, Robert Mclane Knight Daniels

This play has come a long way. This play started off as a series of sketch scenes about an incompetent magician, his lovely assistant, and dim, but loveable stage hand named Bosco. At some point as a writer, I became fascinated with obsession, and what people will do when they are obsessed with something. Over time, this play became an examination of duality. Specifically the difference between art versus commerce, craft versus fame, surface level versus what goes on below that surface. And because every play that I write will, in part, be inspired by a need for me to …

Liquor Store Theatre is a study of the struggle for the city in contemporary Detroit. The visual work of Liquor Store Theatre includes a four-volume, twenty-plus video episode meditation on city …
