Clinical legal education isan additional burden on curators, which so far has not been taken into account anywhere. This education also requires financial expenses, including stationery, educational and specialized literature, periodicals, updating of legal information systems, maintenance of office equipment, etc. Like any innovative activity, a legal clinic requires effort and investment and only then can demonstrate a positive result. The functioning of the legal clinic of the UWED confirms the undeniable truth: we will get good specialists - future conductors of the policy of our state both in the country and abroad, if we apply such a proven method …

My Grandmother Was Mrs. Palsgraf: Ways To Rethink Legal Education To Help Students Become Lawyers, Rather Than Just Thinking Like Them, Ian Gallacher
College of Law - Faculty Scholarship
This article uses my family history, and its striking similarities to the Palsgraf case, as a starting point for a consideration of the ways law schools teach the law to their students, the problems that approach appears to cause, and some possible alternative, and potentially healthier, approaches to legal education.
My grandmother, grandfather, mother, and uncle were all in a house that was blown-up and destroyed by a bomb during the Second World War. And while the cause of the explosion was very different to that in Palsgraf, the fact of an explosion that drastically changed the lives of …

In 2008, the Section on Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar of the American Bar Association commenced a comprehensive review of the accreditation standards for American legal education. By July of 2011, most of the revised standards and rules of procedure had been drafted, discussed and approved by the section's Standards Review Committee ("SRC") and were ready for submission to the council. However, the SRC's revised accreditation policies were not submitted for action by the council until 2014, more than six years after the review process began, as a result of decisions made by section leaders. The revised standards …

Duquesne Law Review
This article outlines an approach for teaching law students about advocacy beyond the judicial branch, with particular emphasis on legislative advocacy. Given the long and well-documented shift away from the judicial branch as the primary source of original public law, it is critical to teach law students that legislative advocacy is more than just an "alternative"o r "non-traditional" legal career option and, instead, is one which regularly involves "real lawyering." Just as law students learn practical trial skills through moot court, shouldn't they learn practical legislative advocacy skills through simulated legislative hearings? Further, can law students move beyond traditional approaches …

Finding The Theory And Method For The Pedagogy Of Teaching Legal Research: A Response To Callister’S “Time To Blossom”, Paul Mclaughlin
Scholarly Works
In his article “Time to Blossom,” Callister invites legal research experts to begin a discussion as to what theory and methodology would be most effective for teaching legal research. This article suggests that utilizing a tailored form of systems theory in conjunction with active learning methods would allow legal educators not only to teach students in an effective and understandable manner but also to adapt their teaching methods to correspond to changes in the legal research field.

Fred Cheever - The Denver Law Ideal, Martin J. Katz
Sturm College of Law: Faculty Scholarship
Fred was a mythical figure at Denver Law. Truly. I arrived at the school in the fall of 2000, while Fred and his family were overseas on sabbatical. From the first day I arrived, people would say, ""You have to meet Fred. He is the greatest."" He was billed as the greatest mentor, the greatest teacher, the greatest scholar, and the most thoughtful addition to any endeavor we might be contemplating. As the accolades for Fred-in-absentia piled up, I became convinced that Fred did not actually exist; that he was a mythic hero created by my colleagues to describe their …
